Today we're visiting Evans Head and doing some sightseeing via way of the local geocaches. It was an overcast day so walking along the beach was easy without the sun belting down. We also just happen to time our walk perfectly with the low tide. Along the way we were lucky enough to spy a pod of dolphins not too far off shore that we watched for a while. We reached the end of the beach and found a rough track that took us up towards GZ. The co-ords were spot on and the GPS pointed exactly to where the container was easily found. Once the log book duties were done we continued up the hill to take in the fantastic views up and down the coast. This was a very enjoyable walk and well worth it. This is why we enjoy our game, it brings us to places like this. We're happy to give this a favourite point and hope it encourages others to visit.TFTC

Day 6 of my fortnight+ road trip up to Brisbane eand back to Blue Mountains. A leisurely drive up. Avoiding GC power trails. Randomly driving to various spots that take my fancy. Thought Ill have a beach stroll over there, however high tides closed the beach route. Another time. Gotta beware of a croc or two that Ive spotted (ah, sandals)

Lovely walk. Came on the inland walk and around the headland. Log damp but ok. Some water in cache

Found it! Billylids

That was an adventure! GPS had us going in circles from one pandanas to another until it settled on an obvious spot that we had previously walked past. Anyway cache is all good. Log a bit damp so put it in a small clip lock bag and replaced in the roots. I found it sitting out in the open. Thanks for bringing us to this beautiful spot. The views are amazing and even spotted some whales way out to sea. Fav point for the great walk

It was very nice view and walk. The kids were looking forward to the cache and have so fun. Thanks a lot!

Out for a walk with No_Tomorrow and found this beautiful place. Saw dolphins in the surf, a dinosaur head and a goanna in the rocks.
TFTC!

I really wasn't supposed to be here today, but I couldn't help myself. The weather was amazing and the rocks, not the caches, were calling to me. I figured out when low tide would be and when the place for my appointment in town was to close and off I went. It was a great walk in a place I've heard many people recommend and I've wanted to visit for a while. In my imagination I was going to walk all the way from Chinaman's Beach to Goanna Head and then up to half way beach. I didn't get beyond Goanna Head and the carpark. Haha. Speaking of Goannas - I had completely forgotten the name of the place till I was standing out on the rocks watching the dolphins surf past beside me and a sea eagle fly over me and I noticed a giant animal head with its mouth open above me a little over yonder. Aha! That's where it got its name/story from! Very clever.

I wasn't here for the cache but didn't want to come back for it another time so decided to find it whilst here. It was uncovered and very obvious but not near the track at least so still safe from most muggles. Thanks. Smile

Amazing walk with incredible views. Unfortunately the cache was full of water. We emptied the water and made sure the cache was sitting upright in its hiding spot in the hope it doesn't happen again. TFTC

What an amazing trek. We parked at Chinamens Beach car park and walked down to the beach and out along to the point. At low tide this is a great walk. We had 5 kids aged 7-3 yrs. Had to help the 3yr old with the rocks and a few steep sections but totally doable. Headland was amazing. Found the cache and signed with BanditBruces. On the way back it looked like the tide had come in a bit so we decided to take the bush track back. It’s car width wide so cars may come down it but then to get back to the car park it becomes a single person trail.
Picture is of probably the hardest part of rocks we had to get by but you can back track if you want but we did the full loop of the headland.
So glad a cache was out here as we probably wouldn’t have made the effort otherwise and it’s one of the best things about Geocaching - getting out and getting off the beaten track!! TFTC!!!

We have now moved to Evans Head staying at the caravan park. Time to catch up with some lod friends & a little geocaching. Just the one cache to stop for on our way.
We drove to Chinamans Beach but thought we could get closer using another road but that was not possible,
Hubby decided to return to the caravan park & ride his bike to the cache instead. He came prepared with a new cache container & log book to replace the old one.
Once the track became impossible to ride he then took to foot to get to the cache. He thought the Terrain could be higher or are we just getting older.
A FP given for bringing to this location, great ocen scenery from the headland.
Thanks for placing this cache Liz and Bruce

Great spot for a cache with wonderful views. Found it easier returning via the rocks than the walk out along the ridge. TFTC

24-Oct-18
Getting towards the tail end of a day mucking around Evans Head, KTB and I decided to take a walk from Chinamans beach to Goanna point. We each brought a coldy along for the walk as the day had been very warm. As we walked we enjoyed checking out the eroded rockface in the cliff with all the different colours and formations. When we came to what looked like the ruins of a fence (?) on the beach we realised we were at the wrong elevation for that cache. oh well on we go, and before we knew it we were at the headland. everyone else seemed to be scurrying the opposite direction and looking to the skies in the south it was easy to see why. The approaching grey clouds and increasing winds were a relief to us after walking in the sun all day so up we went taking the scenic route to the top.

Wow, the winds and turning tide were making the rocks below quite the show as water smashed against them from multiple directions with a ferocious regularity. The increasing greyness made KTB comment that conditions were reminiscent of an English coastline. A little further one we spied a small (~15cm) green snake laying across the track staring out to sea flicking his tongue in and out as if tasting the approaching storm in defiance. We avoided that conflict and kept walking, a few minutes later we changed direction back towards the beach and ground zero. Followed the compass to the right tree and found the stash with no worries. The container is looking a bit dried out and some cracking in its sides tell me the box is on its last legs. It will require a replacement.

With the headland explored and the cache found, it was time to head back, but boy, really enjoyed this mini adventure to finish off the day. My thanks to Liz and Bruce for placing this cache in such a special place for us all to enjoy over the years. A great experience which is just what this little game is all about. Cheers!

Well, if ever there is an easy way or a hard way to get to a cache, well pick the hard way every time. We were initially trying for another cache in the same area and took what looked to be the logical track. Nuh, big mistake. So we recalibrated the GPS to head off for this one and what a marathon it turned out to be. Up "tracks", through the light bush on the headland, down to the beach, back up to the headland, so many pandanus to choose from [8] but eventually we stumbled on to the right one. Stone the crows, if it had of been a snake it would have bitten me Razz. Log duly signed, photos taken, now back down to the beach to find our way back. Great spot - eventually!!

Found at 13.50 hrs. Fancy finding a Liz and Bruce cache here. We took the high road and followed the path through the bush to near GZ. As we got closer we decided to head bush and go straight to it. Close to GZ but which pandanas. The GPS was all over the place. There it is finally. The log book was not in the plastic bag and was a bit damp. Dried out as best we could. Didn't have a spare in the backpack. Replace in the plastic bag and closed the lid on the cache tightly.

Thanks Liz and Bruce for taking us to this spot. It was a good walk with spectacular views.

Found it on a day where the view is not at its best but still spectacular. Cache is damp and a little mouldy and could do with some TLC. Could not write in log book. All the same well worth the trip out to Yvonne's place.

OMG I had no idea of this gorgeous location, we have only recently moved to the area and we have been saving this for the "y" for a challenge, wow what a great walk, easy find, I love when caches in these type of areas are easy finds. We will definitely be back for a better look. TFTC - fav point for the walk and view.

Ok, this was the highlight of our caching adventure at Evans Head. A beautiful location, with an adventurous walk along the beach and great views from the headland, and the added bonus that we were actually able to sign the log (unlike most of the others in the area). Thanks Liz and Bruce, we've found many of your other caches and this one didn't let us down. Cheers (and another fave) from Bindair Dundat and Princess Madelyn.

Bit of a walk (we probably could have driven part of the way but chose not to), but it was along the beach and absolutely worth it. The sea was nice and cold, but the views from the cache point... WOW! Thanks for the cache.

It wasn't quite low tide when we took this cache on which made it kind of interesting. It was a case of shoes or no shoes. I started off with shoes which turned into no shoes carrying shoes, which turned into ditch the shoes for the way back. At gz it turned into I might now like my shoes. A snake skin at gz made me think I shouldn't have ditched my shoes.

We were here a little while ago but decided not to go to this cache due to my inability to walk far. I have now recovered a lot and can walk much longer distances so a trip to Evans Head was on the list of possible things to do on a weekend free of Scouting. Parked the geomobile then headed off along the track. We later found out this is a back track but it provided lots of photo opportunities with birds and plants.

After a while we ended up at the beach and prepared for the next small hill climb. Stopped to talk to some surfers then headed back to the track. The headland proved to be too interesting to just find a cache and leave so we spent some time looking around while making our way towards the cache.

Eventually we found the necessary trees and spent about 5 minutes looking for the cache which was easily found when you find the right tree. Off to find a pleasant area to sit, sign the cache and check out the contents. No trackables but removed a shopping receipt and some food and returned to rest of the contents.

As we were leaving I noticed I had lost the hood for my long lens on the camera. Checked around all the trees where I had been then retraced our steps along the track. GPS is wonderful for backtracking exactly where you have been. Made it all the way back to the beach and there on the sand was my lens hood. Grateful thanks for a good find as these things are not cheap to replace. Walked back along the beach for a little while then climbed a nice steep sandbank to return by the "shorter" track that is more often used. Stopped along the way for more caching before returning to geomobile. Now to find some lunch.

Had a nice walk of about 2 hours for this short trip but well worth it. Giving this one a favourite point for the enjoyable morning.

We really enjoyed the short walk along the beach before climbing up into the headland. Once we got near GZ we looked up and saw a few eagles circling above. We searched around the wrong trees at first but it was only a matter if time before the cache was spotted. It was rather exposed so I rehid it a bit better

After a quick swim with the jellyfish, and a short stroll over to the bombing range, we proceeded to climb up and over the headland. Found some fantastic caves on the south side, although they looked a little hard to access. Got to GZ and had a fruitless search, until Seaeagles1997 spied some Tupperware just up the hill. TFTC!!!!

Headed off to this one after doing the tick line. A nice walk around the headland to the cache. Took me a little while to find as gps was playing up and at one stage was pointing to the water. After checking around a few trees the gps finally settled and got me close. A quick find was had then. A great area. Thanks Liz and Bruce for the hunt. Yvonne has some great views.

I had been drawn to this cache for a few reasons. One was that it ticked a box on a personal challenge I was undertaking. Another was that I have heard good things about it. Also, 2006 caches are a bit rarer. And finally, I noted it would be my new furthest south find - it turns out this spot is just shy of 6km further south than my last. All of those seem a decent reason to find a cache to me! Net88 and I had planned a trip into NSW and it was decided this cache would be a major target for the day. I continue my story from 'On the Tick Line' http://coord.info/GLCX6HJ3

At last we had found a path to follow towards the headland - although it eventually turned and it was evident we would need to find a way back onto the beach from up here on the dunes. I saw a way to get down. Net turned a funny shade of white when I pointed it out, so we opted to slide down a bit of a steep dune, bush bash a little and found a much less steep runway onto the hard sand of the beach. There seems to be little trails carved all through the groundcover on these dunes - I'm not sure there is a distinct 'main' track. On the hard sand and not a lot of it now that the tide was near high and what we had to walk on was densely populated with more dead mutton birds - their aroma was not exactly delicious. We walked on and came across a boulder field under some pandanus trees. Net took a seat for a breather as I skipped perfect stones across a tidal pool. A few minutes later, back on the feet and we marched onward, the only issue now no shade to guard from the harsh sun of late morning and as always, we'd forgotten to take any water.

I'm no fan of sand, but the serenity here was second to none. Northern NSW beaches hold a special place in my mind for being pure and peaceful. The beach came to an end and we could tell we now had to go up the headland. The approach up there was interesting. A slab of rock was the way forward, but the waves were breaking over it. Counting the set of waves and with a break in the breakers we moved quickly onto the grassy path. Upwards along the ridge and I was happy to see a few wallabies dashing off for cover as we approached. That'd be the life, nibbling the greener grass by the ocean!

As we got closer I had to sort out how to get down to GZ, thankfully it wasn't far. The GPSr settled on a particular spot and a few moments later, the cache was spotted. With no rush we plonked down there to sign the logbook and watch the rollers surge forwards from the shade of a pandanus. I wonder what the rich people are doing?

I rehid the cache and we agreed to take the other track back to the car. The path lead out towards the sea, around the headland and we followed that. It was well worth the detour. Watching waves smashing into rocks on the headland, the spray blowing up to meet us high above. Further around a rocky cove was mushing waves into what looked like a milky paste. It was gross and beautiful looking at the same time, each wave spurting gothic shaped globs of foamy water into the air. Onward and the footpad passed by massive boulders carved from the cliff face and shunted by the incessant wave action, it headed over a few slabs of smooth rock and poked us out on top of the sandy dunes above the southern beach. Sadly some pieces of flotsam had washed up here but the whiteness of the sand was impressive, we found a trail that lead the right direction. Soon after, we passed some interesting signs. Keep in mind we were on the beach behind the signs - I'll upload a photo of them. Oops.

On the way back we found a much easier track - no bush bashing, but at one point did have to de-shoe and wade through ankle deep water. Looking back it seemed like such a long walk or maybe we just made it so. The seats of the car were welcoming and now to find the closest water source. Many thanks for the adventure to this cache, I am very glad we made the effort to visit it and go exploring a little. TFTC Liz and Bruce Smile

Captain Terror had told me about how he wanted to do this cache because of a challenge cache and since I am such a wonderful friend I decided to come with him Razz We had parked the car and gotten the cache "On the tick line" on the way. We had just found a track whilst standing at the previous cache and we were able to follow that to get a little closer to this cache.

We had to head down the hill back to the beach and the dead mutton birds. We took a break half way and the Captain skipped a few rocks as I took in the view before we were off again. We followed the beach for as long as possible before we headed up again. Before long we were at GZ and after a brief hunt the Captain came up with the goods. We sat down and scribbled our names in the log before the cache was replaced as found.

We sat there for a while taking in the view before we decided to explore further along the track. We stood at the top of the cliffs watching the waves smash into the rocks trying to get a 10/10 wave. We walked away disappointed at only a 8/10 Razz We then found some waves that turned into chocolate milk looking foam before we turned around and headed back past the bombing field that we didn't know existed.

After walking back past the dead birds, up the track at the tree with the white ribbon, along the track, back down to the beach, took our shoes off to wade through the ankle deep water, then across the beach and back up the track we were soon at the car and driving off in search of some fresh water. Why oh why do we always forget water???

Thanks for the cache Liz and Bruce. Turns out I acquired a tick sometime over this walk. Your southern ticks definitely take more to get over then our northern ones. [xx(] A favourite point from me for the experience.

What a fun cache this was. We started walking from the car park along the beach, hoping this route would take us all the way. We arrived at a spectacular location with a clever hide. The log was damp so we replaced the old torn bag. TFTC Liz and Bruce, a favourite for us. Left Yellow Night TB, took Mattika1 TB, the other trackable was not there.
