I had heard the cache couldn't be found during this last week - what better excuse for a walk up the hill. So I did a cache-checking walk to Pygmy Posthole, Gondola Grab, Harbourview Hangout, Rockers Rumble and Brewers Braintwister. The Harbourview cache has indeed vanished, so I'm archiving this one, and will place a new cache somewhere in the vicinity that has just as nice a view. Cheers from Grandalf
Found easily at 5.25pm on a lovely warm sunny spring day. After going down the lower track for a while, we realised our error and retraced our steps back to the junction and took the upper track. It was starting to get chilly as the sun was setting behind the hills, so made a quick log entry and wandered back to the car. The scenery at this spot was awesome - I must come back and continue along that lower track and see where it goes.

Found this one at 14:50 while the others had a spot of high tea after having caught the Gondola up to the top. Stunning views from GZ.
TNLNSL. Thanks Grandalf.

Was able to get this one today after being foiled by the weather 2 years ago.

#758 (5/5 on the Port Hills on a drizzly Wednesday). Last of the afternoon. Headed here directly from Gondola Grab. Nice view, though the mist obscured things a little. Quick find, then it was off along Crater Rim to get to Major Hornbrook and back to the car. TFTC.
Last find for the day as the cloud rolled in off the sea and covered the city. Magical place with the sun setting over the "cotton wool" covering ChCh. Very quiet in the harbour with no activity to see or hear. TFTC and for getting us walking up here!!
The sun was just about to set when we parked up and wandered up here, the nor-wester giving us a helping hand. After finding the cache quickly (a nice change after Sunset Siesta) we sat in the lee of the hill and watched a boat being guided into the harbour. TNLN Thanks.
Our previous visit - cold, windy & muggles. Today conditions perfect to retrieve this cache & loved the view without being blown off the hangout. (#472,3/6)
End of the day stretch of the legs. Was told about the Crater Walk at Christchurch so off I went. Using Trimble Geocache Navigator, this cache appeared and it set the direction I headed off. This turned into a really nice walk as the sun set on the horizon and the lights of Christchurch came on. I can't believe how long it has been since the last visit to this cache which is only a 5 minute walk from the top of the gondola.
Thanks for bringing me here.

My non-geocaching nephew's second find for the day, I didn't find a cache today. A good way to show someone from out of town a few of the sights from the Port Hills.

We escaped the sea mist that was covering the coast only to find that the mercury was on the boil on the hills. Enjoyed the short walk and great views. +Happy Player TB, -geocoin
Looking forward to a stroll over the hill, but was almost blown away by a howling nor wester. I should've known better!!! Great spot, what a view. TNLN Thank you.
Found it easily enough after Muggles moved on. Unfortunately could not spot Pygmy Posthole coming or going. Traded TBs.
Nice find with crew from the US Antarctic Program. Beautiful views, we stopped to take lots of photos. Do this one on a clear sunny day for the best views.
The wrong trail will bring you very close but on the wrong part of the cliff. We did a bit of backtracking. Found it easy once we were at the correct level.

Took the wrong trail a couple of times - got to within 30 metres of the cache at one point but unfortunately that was 30 metres straight up a rock face! Once we got the location sorted out it was a quick find. TFTC.
Was so glad that I decided to look for this one today- the view was quite spectacular (and definately worth walking up the bridleway path for).
Took- nothing...except for photos:)

An absolutely amazing cache with a 360 degree view of Lyttleton Harbour all the way across Christchurch to the distant mountain ranges! Thank you for bringing me here! A bit spooky with a tad of vertigo at ground zero, but fantastic nonetheless. TFTC. Moving along diabetes coin.
Very spectacular place to hide a cache.
Thanks, I enjoyed the view very much.

Every place you stop on these hills offers a unique view and they are all worth looking at.
Thanks.
(Apologies for the late log entry, got more than a little bit side tracked)

While "hangin' out" at the waypoint,
we came across the cache.
So we dropped in a geocoin,
and moved on, quick as a flash!

Nice walk and view. Took Cache Cow geocoin for the kids to look at. They were very interested in the whole deal as it was their first. Thanks.
I'm sure the harbourview is specactular - but not in the middle of the night with a thick mist. Although that did make for an interesting walk along from the carpark. I could just make out a few lights of Lyttleton occassionally. Thanks for an adventure.
Actually turned out that this was easier than I had expected. A lovely spot to sit & write up the cache log. TNLN, thanks for another great walk Grandalf.
Made the menfolk walk from other side, so plenty of exercise. Cool view, but cool wind.
The sun was just about going down when I found this cache. The harbour side was in shadow, but the tops of the hills was a pattern of light and dark. I was doing a run up Mt Pleasant and down the Bridle Path, including two other caches.

Didn't have the instructions, I was very glad it was near the top and not the bottom of the hill! Amazing view TNLN
Easy find when we were on the right path! Great view although Mt Herbert was in cloud. Thanks for the exercise and the fun. TNLNSL.
Easy find. Hid a bit better as it was very obvious. TNLN. TFTC. Great view, this is what caching is all about...and I walked up from the Heathcote side.
It's Good Friday; we could have gone to church or geocaching. Nice view from up here. TNLN.
Lots of noise from the port. A huge passenger liner is docked.
Cheers Grandalf - M@

We found this one easily enough except for having to wait for about 20 minutes for a couple of Muggles to move off. One had a pair of binoculars and was extremely interested in something happening down in Lyttleton.

We didn't hang out long here. Very cold and windy day in keeping with a changeable spring.
Quick find, last of 3 hubby and I did while walking a circuit in a strong cold southerly. TNLN
Con went for this one, straight up the side of the hill. I looked at her as she gained the summit and thought what a lucky man I was and what an awesome woman she was.
Took nothing, left nothing.

I did this one after walking over from Gondola Grab. Quite a small cache, but it was easily found and a lovely view. I headed round the Crater Rim to Major Hornbrook so I could complete the trifecta with Witches Childhood Playground. No exchange made. Cheers Gav [947]
Seemed to be a bit of trend to go the wrong way. We did our best to do this too! Found by eldest mini muffin.

Walked a lot further than necessary. Like others before fooled by the altitude Quick to find once on the right path. Great views even when overcast. Visiting with TB's on a photo shoot.
Our second for the day. A wee trek up and along for some stunning morning views while the weather was still nice.
Thanks for the cache.

What a lovely walk on another fantastic Christchurch day. The wind was quite strong, but sheltering beside the rocks enjoying the view was awesome!

FIrst find for me, Took the bottom track 1st by mistake but got there in the end. Downloaded 230 caches around CHCH so going to get hooked. Cheers
Cold and windy, so we thought a walk would do us fine. Easy find, thanks Anita and boys.
Had decided to watch the rugby on Friday night but with the home team taking a beating decied to go caching at halftime. Walked up the bridle path from the Chtistchurch side in the dark. Discovered a crashed car part way up the track, suspect joyriders I do. Any way got to the cache with excellent night views of Lyttlton. TNLN.
Hi there..I read about this caching thing in the newspaper the other day and thought I might like to give it a go,,,So today was my very first try and I am no longer a caching virgin lol....cause I found it, I do a lot of walking in this area so thought this would be a good opportunity... I still had to look quiet hard as I am not to flash with the GPS yet,but it was lots of fun even tho there were no veiws because of the sea fog...so thanks very much,,,cheers Bo
1171. Well today we decided to test ourselves. Iris - on ankles that still can't climb down the stairs properly since her big fall - managed to get at least two thirds of the way and be able to see Rodney when he found the cache. Rodney was proving to himself that he at last had the stamina to do more than walk suburban malls and city streets. This was a good start to recovery for us both.
The coordinates zeroed in at GZ and this was indeed a pleasant hill walk.
Thanks
Iris & Rodney

Decided to walk the Bridle Path track today and do this cache when we got to the top. Cor blimey didn't realise how much i suck at walking up hill! Luckily my support was there to get me to the top.
Kinda stumbled across this one as the GPS was initially pointing there but when i got there it went back in the other direction. Beautiful clear view at the spot. TFTC

Cycled up to the Summit Road via Rapaki Track for the 1st time in 8 months. Found I couldn't quite ride the last 120m or so to the cache on my MTB so it was abandoned. Discovered then that metal-cleated bike shoes don't grip very well on slippery wet rocks. Now have red hydraulic leaks on one knee. Great view of Lyttleton from the cache site. TNLNSL. T4TC Grandalf. Wheeee it's all downhill now via The Bridal Path back to the mothership.
I walked on over from another cache nearby. A beautiful, calm winters day.
I picked up the TB from another cache, so I'll log it out of this one. Draftsman TB visited ( well one end anyway - it's way too long to fit ) Thanks.

Sorry folks, the TB Jen-Luc is not in Harbourview Hangout, but is in another recent cache of mine. I'll fix the problem when I get home in a week
A beautiful day and with exercise lacking and wet weather pending made the most of the day by taking the bike up on the hills to find this. Was easily found after initially taking the wrong track. A great view. Thanks Grandalf. Hatas TNLN
That was cold!! It was a lovely clear night with a vicious wind blowing but worth it to get the FTF. We got a little confused in the dark and approached this from the wrong track and ended up doing a bit of clambering up a fairly steep bank with the button torch in my mouth. Its all good fun and the cache was an easy find once we got to it, followed by a quick wander to the nearby track we should have gone up
All up, a great cache with great views, especially at night. A novel way to approach this could be to use the Gondola and perhaps make an evening of it although care does need to be taken after dark[^]
Thanks Grandalf,
