Am archiving our caches when I'm advised they require attention, as my kid's interest in geocaching has moved on. We had a ball while it lasted.

15-Jan-20
In need of a new container - and a new book - and a new location which is less strenuous to access.

Watch this space.

Damn steep walk more like it, that got the old juices flowing.

14-Jan-18
I came back down today to find the new kayak caches, but found myself on the wrong side of the tide. So while waiting for the tide to turn, I decided to find done land caches first.

Well after that climb, i hope my sea legs work better. I felt a bit wobbly on the way down, even though it is a relatively cooler day.
Thanks for the cache.

Quite a hike

25-Jul-17
Tried this one a few years ago but thought better against pushing through the final 70m when confronted by tall, spiky grass and lantana surrounding GZ from all directions. My desire to rush back anytime soon was also clouded by memories of a stinking hot day and a steep hill. Looking at nearby grabs for the Mary Hyde Challenge, noticed the co-ords had since been updated and even though I still had memories of that hill, today’s weather was “t-shirt in winter” beautiful and ended up being an easier attempt. A lot of scrub clearing has also taken place as I actually got a good view of the dam along the way this time. Swapped TB in and out.

16-Jul-17
Found it

12-Jul-17
Was down this way and had some time to spare.

Easy walk up to GZ - bit of a puff. Red-bellied black snake got a spook on my walk back down.

Justifiable complaints about difficult overgrowth (and sharp thorns)

12-Jun-17
Cache relocated to more accessible position.

24-Apr-17
Based on the thorny feedback recently we've disabled this one. It's obviously too overgrown now, so we'll find yet another GZ for our very first geocache - somewhere less challenging for the geo-kiddies.

22-Apr-17
We have travelled down from Sydney to Kiama for the April school holidays, camping for a week at Kendells on the Beach Holiday Park in our Jayco Swan Outback camper trailer. Today we headed up to Saddleback Mountain for a solved multi-cache and a couple of Traditionals, then it was on to the Minnamurra Rainforest for an EarthCache and a Traditional. And the return journey had us stopping at Jerrara Dam for a couple of Traditionals. This was the 7th of 8 finds for the day, and the 32nd find for the holiday.

After visiting the Minnamurra Rainforest, and finding both the Traditional and the Earthcache that's located there, we were now on our way back to camp. Diverted slightly off our route to visit the Jerrara Dam and have a look for the two caches located there.

After finding "Kiama suburbs - Jerrara" we continued along the road and parked at the reserve's entrance gate. Despite the sign on the gate, and info in the cache description, the gate was already closed and it was well before 4 pm.

So we parked and walked along the road and then up the track to GZ. A bit steep towards the end, but we finally made it to GZ, and that's where the fun, err pain, began. Looked around the perimeter of most obvious natural structure but couldn't find an obvious way into it. Looked like this was going to be a solo mission by geodad, err me.

So a bush bash it was, and I've got the scars to show for it. That lantana is quite savage, then there's the stinging nettle. But if all that's not enough the natural structure has it's own defences, in the form of big sharp black thorns that threaten to rip gashes in your limbs. Anyway I survived the worst of it and eventually (it took a lot longer than it should have) I spotted the hide and had CIH. TNLNSL, and then replaced as found. The things we do for a smiley! TFTC Kiama Krew, I think.

Find #1682

14-Apr-17
We got within 17m but it was to over grown and looked like a great home for snakes...
So, we let this one go for another day...

15-Jan-17
Wasn't sure how to approach this one because I hadn't read the instructions. Went to the right place first time then left drove around for 20 minutes then came back and followed my instinct.
Finally at GZ it hasn't been found for a while so there has been some growth.
Clue for the next finder bring a machete or tomahawk to trim the very thorny coral tree shoots that are all over the hidey hole. You get torn to threads trying to access cache container.
Spilt some claret but got there in the end.

28-May-16
I had to laugh at myself after this one.
It had been raining this morning, when i arrived the outer gate was closed so i walked in and found my way up and now GZ is down 90m through long grass.I walked through wet knee height grass in trackies and sneakers to search and i couldnt find anything, now wet and confussed,i read the logs to realised i have loaded the old coords and the new GZ is now 90m back up!!!.by the time i reached the real GZ and the cache im now soaked through now to find i didnt need to do that....DOH!!!
I had to chuckly at my mistake.
This is a cache adventure i wont forget.
TFTC Smile

New GZ Co-ords. Relocated 03 April 2016.

03-Apr-16
Curious to see what's happened to our geocache, I went walking today and being unsure of exactly where I hid it, I went to within 8 metres of the co-ords and found it straight away (under the only huge rectangular block of rock laying oddly perfectly horizontal on top of the rock wall. However, when I hid it there ages ago access to the rock wall was easy - just walk across the low field of kikuyu grass. But now it's a jungle of tall grass trying to trip you with every step and lots of bracken trying to impede your progress - which is not very geo-kiddie friendly - so I relocated it to a more accessible location. Stay tuned for the co-ords. Kiama Krew.

28-Mar-16
Way to bushy. Had a look were within 90m but met the end of a fence on either side. Not found since July 2015?

07-Dec-15
Didn't find.. Got within about 90m but too overgrown to bush bash through with the kids! Great spot to discover however! Cheers b, j and k

15-Jul-15
This small park is just magic. Loved the climb and the find. TFTC

15-Jul-15

New co-ords 26.10.14 (approx 160 m from original GZ site)

26-Oct-14
Original GZ was muggled as the bushes that once hid it are now gone and visitors to the picnic table nearby had a clear view of the cache. So I moved it to a safer site - some 150 m away and off the walking track.

14-Oct-14
The cache has gone and the vegetation is much less now than when we hid it - and so much easier for muggles to see from the nearby picnic area. Will find a better spot soon. Standby.

03-Jul-14
Some nasty bastard has taken the cache and replaced it with a dirty baby's nappy. [:(!]
Spent a good 40 minutes hunting for it. Left dirty nappy in situ.
Glad Kiama no longer has to rely on Jerara dam for its water supply, it is mostly a muddy quagmire.
Lots of birds about, lovely place for a picnic.

21-Apr-14
Thanks for the cache, would be a nice place to come for a picnic with the family.

28-Feb-14

Returned to car at 3:46pm an council was there waiting to lock the gate.

23-Sep-12
Great spot TFTC

16-Sep-12
very nice spot for a stop over, bit of a shame about the Dam being decommissioned, most of the water all gone now, but the creek and picnic areas are still lovely. Found the cache, took a small button pin and left $1 in return payment LOL and signed LB.

Please do not search for the cache in the rock walls, someone did and we had to replace the hole they left!!!!! Cache is reasonably easy to find with NO rock extraction needed.

A nice quick find on this one. Pulled up at the carpark and the place was packed. Oh how I love sunny days. Got out of the car and walked to the gz where I made a quick find. The dam looked half empty? TFTC

01-Jul-12
This was the second attempt at this one. Last try we had a late lunch and by the time we finished it was raining so we had to leave. This time one cloud came over as we parked and sure enough it tried, but soon stopped. A short walk and search and we had the cache. Terrific little spot we will go back again.

Getting late in the day, so no one around. Nice walk but as it had been raining very heavy we were worried about getting over the creek on the way back,. We made it back. Took marbles Left Geo Badge. TFTC

21-Jan-12
Reviewing the logs, retracing the TB advertised, I believe it was placed here long ago but may have been moved since.

20-Mar-11
Replaced log book. Wow, the place has changed since we placed the cache here in 2006. The views across the dam are little obscured because of the tree growth and the old stump we hid the cache in (ie what Sir Don protected best - his cricket stump) is no more, but parts of it remain, so look for them. Enjoy. Kiama Krew

15-Mar-11
Called by here while on the way up to the Illawarra Fly treetop walk and the walk to Minnamurra Falls. Took nothing but left a lucky Chinese Feng Shui Coin. Log Book is full - so signed where I found a spare spot - out of chronological date order. TFTC. 2BluFish
