I usually ignore multi caches as they are too time consuming and often frustrating. Urban Eels was such where I failed miserably but I wanted one for the nearby Tribute Challenge, so this one was much more manageable and successful. Out while walking the dog before the rain came in this afternoon. Did this one, not really a multi, after Bledisloe Park #2. First time to this gem of a place hidden on the farms. No sign of a reflector but found the right sort of hiding place and a 2-handed manoeuvre extracted the cache. And #3005.TFTC
Filling in a little bit of time this avo so thought Id come up and find this one. Cache retrieved - it had fallen but a couple of deft two handed manoeuvres got it out. Found in daylight so not sure how good the reflector was but it seems a bit worse for wear. Cache a bit damp but log book signable. Left some swag for the kids. Mihi ki a koe mo te keteroki #256
Found it, but as mentioned in previous note, cant get it out, but have been allowed to log as found It was the afternoon when i went so i couldnt use any light to find the reflector but i spotted it anyway I never even knew this grove was here, granted i dont go around that area like ever, didnt even know you were allowed there! But it was a really nice little hideyhole
What a fun night with Antanna finding cache by torch light. The security man was quite understanding. Took TB. This was my first night cache.
I'm on a wee road trip to southern Hawks Bay (or is to northern Wairarapa?) on an attempt to clear the Vikings Geoart, with a bit of freedom camping down at the coast. (Apologies for the generic logging)Today it's the run up from Wellington, over the track and up to Dannevirke before heading out into the back roads.A bit of a tight squeeze for the container, but good to get an old one.All good here and TFTC.Find #6202 at 8 January 2024 6:18 am
A small group of us from Team SEAC consisting of Keylev, Stik-A-Crane, Uncle Sam and ourselves had come down from Auckland to spend the long weekend caching in the Manawatu area. The plan was to get as many as possible. Along the way we had some great adventures, many laughs, met some interesting people and found a wide selection of caches. Signed SEAC to save space on the log. TFTC.We found this cache while completing the nearby ad lab. However we took a wee while to find the correct access point, with a few differing opinions. Initially we could see GZ but from the wrong side of the fence. Once we corrected that the cache was soon in hand. It is great to find such an old cache.
Struggled a little to locate a suitable path to GZ, but after consulting google and a group conference we came up with the goods, and the find..... Day 2 of our caching trip to Palmerston North area with HeMaLuDy, UncleSamNZ, Keylev, and myself, signing in as SEAC or TEAM SEAC to save logbook space. A big thanks to all the CO's for cache placement and maintenance, making this trip the success that it was.TFTC.
Day #2 of the Team SEAC extra long weekend little road trip for Labour Weekend.Woohoo well this was a fun little adventure! First we accessed from the wrong side so although we got super close we couldn't actually get there. Finally we found the correct (only) entrance and then it was easy from there. Thanks for the cache - nice to get an older cache!
Found due to doing the Adventure lab.Small group of caching buddies drove down from Auckland for the long weekend, and headed for Palmerston North area. Sorry for the generic posts, but we had so many caches to find.Had a great time, with so many laughs. Thanks to all the Cache owners who placed the caches. All logs signed "SEAC" or "Team Seac"
as it was Sunday, I thought I would head out to Massey, plenty of parking, finally found where I had to go, walked down to the grove and found the cache pretty quickly, tftc sveppi
This was my first geocache! I found it hard, but I used the comments to try and find spoilers and that helped. So amazing this has been a geocache for 15+ years.
Found this while doing an ad lab wp. So interesting to read the old logbook. Thanks for keeping this one going. Awesome
after coming here for an adventure lab spotted this multi.
why not lets try. after a bit found way to GZ.

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)… We’re on a big Easter weekend excursion visiting Vikings and anything else in between.
Easter Sunday: We happened to be visiting the grove for an AdLab waypoint, and this cache was in the vicinity. Having a recommended nighttime attribute made this slightly challenging, but we gave it a go anyway. After a quick scan here and there, we arrived at a likely location. Bingo! Thanks sveppi. TFTC.

Did one of the parts of the ad lab here. Thought we would grab the cache here. A bit tricky during the day, but we got there in the end thanks to Kimbathelion’s sharp eyes. Tftc
Cool bonus while doing the Ad lab. Fav point for this experience & toanga. Tftc
I needed a cache for my last dot day in December and was here to complete an Adventure Lab. All in great order. Found using the hint. Tftc.
Drove to the wrong side then soon got to the right spot, We found the reflector but because of its age it’s more of a white sticker, soon found the cache and wrote in the log and concealed it carefully back as found,

Pretty quick find, hiding place tricked us a bit but managed to get the cache after finding the alternate access point. TFTC.
Picked up a handful of caches in Palmerston North today. After completing the Ad Lab at this point, I realised there was this cache there too. Managed to figure out where it might be based on the hint, although it wasn’t dark at the time and I didn’t see anything ‘reflective’! Found it without too much difficulty. #5301. TFTC.
What a brilliant cache, and so inventive too! Was a bit scary in the dark, if I must admit :p
This was high on my priority list for this trip and I started to walk over from the campground very last night but was so exhausted I ended giving up and walking back to my cabin. Tonight I'm feeling a lot more energenitic but drove over. I wasnt quite sure how to get to the grove, I got to what looked like a logical place to start based on the street sign but at the gate there were security camera signs so I wasnt sure. Tried to find another way but couldnt so decided to stay away from the buildings and jump the fence. It didnt take long to find the cache. Thanks for hiding sveppi

I came back a few days later with a torch, after completing an adventure lab. I scanned the area as i walked the path, with my torch, with the trees providing enough shade in the morning sun light. The reflector did its job. Thanks for the cache.
Brought here while doing the AL but unfortunately I had some difficulties with my phone and couldn't complete this stage, but was still pleased to be led here to do this classic cache.
I also overlooked getting the clue for the multi associated with the AL but as I need to revisit if back in PN for the AL I may get another chance! Also some other multis in the area I would like to do but didn't have time today.
I overlooked the requirement of a torch, I would have needed a stronger one than my phone could provide but as it turned out I was able to find the cache without difficulty using the hint and cacher's instinct.
The highlight of my day visit to PN, gets a FP.

Thought the AL would be the last of the day and then as we drove off, we realised: wait, there's more. No reira ka mihi atu au ki a Rangitane otirā ngā hapū katoa. Ka mau te wehi. Awesome. Tftc
A nice quick find thanks. A surprise ending to the AdLab for us.
Ms_KR and I are off on a wee tour of the North Island. A day around Palmerston North today. The weather was good for caching, not too hot, cold, windy or wet (though there were a few showers they didn't stop us)!
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

This was a well hidden gem. If it wasn't for the AdLab I would have never have found the Grove and even then it took a concerted effort to navigate my way here.
I enjoyed reading the info panels and of course finding the hide.

#9873. After being in COVID19 lockdowns for several weeks the key to greater freedom came this week and a chance to get out of Wellington and geocache in a neighbouring region. Infoferret joined me on the trip up north. The main aim today was to pick up some Adventure Labs but also puzzle finals and any nearby caches. This older multi caught our attention and IF actually pointed out the potential hiding spot after we first arrived but missed seeing the container. After we started the multi we came back to that spot and saw the reflector. The cache was soon spied but took some effort to access it from a different part of the tree. Great to see the old logbook and the cache was in excellent condition. Signed the logbook and replaced where found. Thanks sveppi for keeping this one going for so long.
GSEL's log says it all really... Came here on a quiet Sunday morning for the Adventure Lab stage, when my 'spidey senses' started tingling. After re reading the AL listing, I realised that what I had considered as a possible was in fact correct! GSEL spotted it, but it was a touch tricky to extract (slightly smaller hands helped), but found to be in perfect condition when I did so. TFTC.
Headed out after work to collect a cache to keep our streak going Day 126. Lots of work going on at the grove. Clearing trees and carving poles. Still cache was all fine. Thanks for bringing me to a place that I would not have known about except through geocaching. Walked back into town with a great view of the sun setting and the lit up footbridge.
Out and about on a nice afternoon checking out this old cache. Saw the final reflector and then the cache. So unusual to find the original 15-year old logbook - still in great condition. Thanks for keeping this one alive.
(# 6711). A day trip up to Palmy to get a few caches. A full day was had. A quick find in a nice little enclave. Everything in order. Thanks for bringing me here.
Wow its been 2 years since this cache has been found! A beautiful grove. I was accompanied by 2 very friendly fantails (auto speller kept spelling fantasies! )tftc.
TFTC a very pleasant walk this afternoon and visit this lovely area. Cache soon in hand, log signed and returned as found. Lovely to have this little piece of bush and history in the local area.
I have set myself a goal to get the requirements for the mystery cache The well-rounded cacher challenge (Manawatu) So each time I go out caching weather it is by myself or with fellow cacher I will try to get a least one cache that will get me closer to my goal
Out here with Scoria in the Palmerston North area, today specifically targetting regular size caches at the start of the day all I need to get the bronze badge for the regular size cache badge was 18 more regular caches, not an overly hard to goal to achieve over the next couple of weekends
This cache brings the total I need down to 17 with the bonus of being a multi-cache it brings down the number of multi-caches I need down to 9
We found the sign pointing us to the grove only to find that the gate was closed and lock, there was a woman nearby with whom scoria spoke to she was unsure whether we were allowed to jump the fence or not so we drove around looking for another way in.
Not having much luck we came back to the gate and were talking about climbing over the fence as mention in the cache write up when we notice a car pull up on the other side of the gate and a man get out and start to open the gate, Scoria got out and spoke to the man, when Scoria returned he said that we could climb over the fence and follow the signs to the Grove so we park up and did just that
After all that we finally made it to the grove after a short walk, we entered the grove I started walking around the right-hand side of the pathway Scoria took the left-hand side of the pathway with our torches lighting the way we started our search for the prize. Who will be the first of us to find it sadly alias it was not me. So I joined up with Scoria at ground zero, bravly Scoria stuck his arm down into the unknown but was denied the prize due to his arms being unable to reach it by the grace of God he was able to retrieve his arm in one peace with a nare of foul beast teeth or claw marks, a new approach was needed to gain the prize. fortune smiled upon us as a other avenue open up and there was on need to use the black power
With a bit of careful manipulation Scoria was able to release the prize from its dark and foul imprisonment and bring it back into the light of the day, at last with the prize firmly and safely in our hands, we retrieve the parchment of poof and we both sign it, and then as the rules of the quest require it was place back from whence it came so that for those who follow in our footsteps may do the same for many years to come
Thanks for the cache

Out with D6 targeting regular caches to build up his stats and picking off a few bonus caches that were in the nearby vacinities.
This one has a story.
Chapter one - initial resistance.
Arriving in the weekend we followed the signs to the grove but we found the gate was locked with no obvious pathway in. There were signs up about video Surveillance so climbing fences did not feel appropriate for the situation. We spoke to one person nearby and she wasn't sure how to get in to the grove so we drove around a while looking for another access point but came back to the signs.
We ended up debating weather we should park in front of the gates as suggested by the cache write up and simply jump the fence while under surveillance, but when a local came from the other side of the gate to unlock it so he could exit, he was able to give up the advice we needed. Park over there he said, not in front of the gate, a tractor may be coming through in a wee while. Don't worry about the cameras, jump the fence and follow the signs.
Chapter two. The grove.
After walking the short trek to the grove entrance we dug out our trusty light emitting devices and proceeded beaming as we walked around the grove, D6 in a anti clockwise direction, myself in the more common clockwise circuit. We both stopped and checked out likely spots (there were not to many) as we thought that even though we were under the shade of a canopy, that it might just be to daylight for the reflector to dazzle us and grab our attention.
Within what felt a very short interval, I spotted a glimpse of what I believed to be a reflection, closer inspection confirmed it was in fact the reflector we were seeking.
Chapter three - the extraction.
With ground zero located we shone the torch down the cavernous realm and soon had the geocache in our sights. Convinced there were no creatures of consequence guarding the entrance ready to attack would be invaders I reached deeply within only to find my arms were just to short to traverse the void, more thought was needed. Knowing my store of tools had recently been temporally relocated from thier usual home within the back of my not to distant transportation device we had to look at what we had available to us on site for an insitu solution. Further examination revealed that like many things in life, there is often more than one approach any situation and this was no exception. Cache was soon in hand and manipulated into a position that allowed us to bring it out into the world.
Chapter four - for the record.
Cache now accessible we logged our discovery for all to see, placed it back from whence we found it where few would see, and took photos in the area for our friends to see.
Cheers. Thanks for the placement.

My son and I were spending the weekend in Palmy, to attend a Geo event here in Palmy, and spend some time with some Geo friends. The weather really turned it on for us today, so we decided to get out and about, and try for a few caches that we hadn't looked for before.
A couple of months ago I solved a Puzzle Cache, the solution to which was close by this one. I had hoped to be able to walk to the Puzzle one, but access was blocked. In the meantime, this one looked really interesting so took the opportunity to do it whilst we were here.
We were enjoying the sunshine as we drove up to get this one. Having parked up in the nearby layby, we had a pleasant casual stroll towards GZ. There was nobody about whilst we searched for the cache, and it was one of the mini cachers who came up trumps after searching in the right place. A quick sign of the log before returning everything to where we found it and then going on to the next one
Thanks for the cache, and for the opportunity to visit somewhere interesting.

Visited today with @TwigNZ and @ThatWeirdGuy04.
I am pleased to see the redevelopment in this area
I had sparked Twig's interest by describing the cache as a "Daytime Night-Cache" but wonder if the redevelopment has removed the firetacks as we could not find any of them when wlaking through the grove.
When we got to the final that I had found previously, there was a reflector on that host but nothing leading to the final?
Cache is otherwise in good condition

Took my little sister out for the afternoon to do some geocaching as she was annoying my brother and blood was about to be shed. Really cool location and a great hide. The sculptures are pretty neat too.
Dragged the family out for some treasure hunting. This is such a neat wee place. Saw lots of rabbits & heard plenty of birdsong. Miss 5 grabbed the cache which was nice and dry. Thanks for bringing us to this neat spot.
Came for a quick visit to see how the newly refurbished Karaka Grove is looking - very nice indeed and well worth a visit. This place always has a nice presence to it. Took TB and will leave some pgcnz-themed painted rocks soon.
Great to see this grove all tidied up with a new carving. We checked to see if the cache was still where it was in when we first found it in 2009 - it was! Well worth a visit to the grove if you have not been here before. Then we went to forage for some walnuts in the area. TFTC again.
Lovely little place that we would never have found otherwise. Couple of nice trackables in there. Thanks.
I was so excited when I saw this one come back into life, It had been a while waiting. It great to have a multi back into action. It didn't take long to work it out and find the cache. we signed the log and placed the cache back where we found it. Thank you for bringing this multi back to life for all of us to enjoy once more. I look forward to more multi's coming to Palmerston North or Feilding we don't have enough. TFTM. This fills in my daily cache today so another thank you for that I didn't have to travel far to get it.
So this was a nice little hide, we also hunted for this without a torch which prob took much longer to solve but still enjoyed, thanks for keep this hidden little area alive for us cachers to visit
Decided to come out to this cache as I have been watching for its replacement with interest. The grove has been redeveloped beautifully and the new entrance and pou are standing proudly. Although surrounded by trees, it was still quite blustery in the grove. I brought a torch as instructed but that was next to useless as it wasn't dark enough in the grove for it to make any impact. Had to rely on the geo-sense and the cache was quickly in hand. Took the two TBs and left two in their place. Thanks for replacing so soon after the grove reopened. TFTC
On the way to Palmy... cache in hand ready to be replaced (with a couple of TB's), watch this space.....
Finally the site is ready, and I drop by with sveppi to have a look and return the cache. The carvings are very impressive, and the sculptures outside the site are pretty nice too. Very peaceful in here.
Karaka Grove is now re-opened, much tidied up and restored. I've checked with the person who does day-to-day maintenance and he says the geocache can now be replaced and re-activated. The CO's welcome to message me if you need further information.
Yep, got a trip planned to Palmy over the new year to replace the cache (which has had a bit of a spruce up). Pretty keen to see what work had been done and how the place looks now. Thanks for the updates and the patience, much appreciated
I’ve had an update from someone involved in the restoration project. They are just getting the last pou (wooden post) carved. The flax collection arrived last week and they are hoping to have it all finished next month for an opening on 14 December.
In the area for a couple of days and took the opportunity to see how work is progressing. Not much is happening really. Most of the features have been removed and some of the path has been redone. There is no barrier across the entrance anymore but I opted to not put the cache back until the area is a bit more finished. There is oddly a new very yellow drinking fountain at the entrance now. With not much longer left in the year (time frame for completion) I though more would be finished. Cache still safe with me and I will be putting it back once the area is finished and open to the public again. Thanks for the patience.
Just got a reply from the person in charge...
"Thanks for your interest in Karaka Grove. As the notice indicates, we are busy with restoration work and we are hoping that this would be completed towards the end of 2016."
So no change to the original timeframe, it's still a work in progress. Should be good though when finished.

Hi Growly Bear, I'm trying to contact the person in charge of the restoration project to see if I can't tied down a completion date. I know the cache has been disabled for sometime now, but it is by no means forgotten. Please bear with me (sorry no pun intended Thanks for the patience. Sveppi
On a 6 day road trip with sveppi. Day 5: Masterton-Ohakune. sveppi utilised the trip to stop by here to check the site for herself. Not much seems to be happening considering we are supposed to be 2/3 of the way through the project...
Took the opportunity whilst in the area to drop by the site and see what the progress was like.... very slow I see There are a couple of big bits of native timber which I hope are for the grove (maybe new carvings?), and the lookout had been removed. Apart from that I agree with previous notes - slow progress. But the cache is still ready to be returned once work is complete. Thanks to those who have posted status reports, much appreciated.
Having spoken to one of the people involved in the project, the work to the grove looks like taking about another 5-6 months, so completion would be mid-2016. They're refurbishing the water features, tree planting and wooden carvings (which have rotted a bit), so it should be very much tidied up when complete. It's a very special place so keeping the cache site available for a few months more would be great. I know the locality quite well and I can't think of a site within 160 metres that's more deserving of a cache.
Visited the site while in the area.
The tape has been removed, but there is still a barrier across the entry.
6 months into the 18 month timeframe and it appears that very little work has been done on site beyond the removal and chipping of some trees...
The signage is still dated April with no new updates

Quick owner update: The cache is safe with me (many thanks Gr33nslime for retrieving it) and I definitely intend to re-place it in the grove once it is all revamped and open again for public access. Hope my grace period will extend this far.
I agree that it would be a shame to loose this cache.
Did you know that the Grove is listed on the "NZ Tree Register"?

# 704 Came down here to get an update on progress. Doesnt look like much is being done , but the tape is still across the entrance way. Had a poke, cache is still there and in good condition. There is only 2 more pages left in the log book,
Etherlord Clan many thanks for your note and the picture of the entrance notice. It would be really good to see the area restored although 18 months is a long time. I have disabled the cache as wouldn't want people to visit and not be able to go into a restricted area.
I am no longer local and come down to Palmy only a few times a year, so if any locals have an update I would be keen to know what the status is in the area. I will also try to arrange for someone to pickup the cache to keep it safe from muggle while the area is under reconstruction.
Hopefully the reviewer will allow a grace period while this is all happens. I have had this cache in the area since 2006 and would hate to lose it. It's a real hidden gem of a place which I think people discover and visit because of the cache there.

Visited today with StephW81 only to find Caution tape around the entrance and a big pile of chipped wood...
Please see attached photo of the notice at the entrance.

Found in the dark, however it probably would have been better to get bearings on this one while it was still light as it took a few minutes to work out where to go - certainly off the beaten track and not well signposted (actually the signpost was pointing in the wrong direction [?]). Looks like the whole area is getting a major make-over and there is currently a barrier across the entrance to the grove, however having come this far decided it was important to check that the cache hadn't been disturbed . Cache and reflector are fine, TFTC.
We picked up this multi as we were there because of the puzzle cache "Outside Installations"
Parked and walked in, was first a little horrified to see a couple of felled trees and was a bit livid after reading the cache details but then discovered the grove a little further on. PHEW.
They're doing a little bit of maintenance work here at the moment, so the path was a bit disturbed.
Managed to get eaten alive by mossies or sandflies! Miss Swiss spotted the reflector and after a little bit of searching found the cache. Was so cool to see the original logs!

Quick find, in such a nice grove. This place always has a presence and it was interesting to come back to visit. Took the toy soldier, left a crystal ball.
3116 days later this is my first maintenance on this cache, not actually due to needing it but I was in Palmerston North for the weekend and felt like I wanted to. So after 8 years, 6 months and 10 days or 445 weeks and 1 day, it’s actually in really good condition Did a bit of a tidy up and clean on the cache itself but left the old log book in there as I think it’s nice to see all the old entries, though it is a bit full there is still room. Replaced the reflector for those who want to do it as a night cache, which was the original idea. I was there rather early on Sunday morning and actually found the place quite eerie! Dropped off a couple of TB’s .....hope you all still enjoy this hidden grove.
Found after a thorough search - didn't see the reflector anywhere. What a neat little grove Picked up cache buddy. TFTC
I don't usually load multis on my GPS when I'm away on business, but I had to do this one for my friend Sveppi
Came at the end of day 1/3 of a course at Massey, before the group meets up again for dinner. The reflector can't be seen int he light anymore, but the cache location is pretty obvious. Nice clean cache in a good spot, as can attest its long life. Got my pants and jacket dirty trying to retrieve, not sure how I will explain this at dinner later! Ah well, it's all part of the adventure.

A daylight find but required a very long arm for the recovery. Thanks for being us here today. TFTC
Quick find with drawp on our day in the Manawatu. The long arm of Mr EU was required. TFTC
I couldn't see any reflector, but soon found the cache in this lovely well hidden grove. Thanks sveppi for bringing me here.
Nice quick find this morning. This is quite an odd wee park, pretty cool though.
We are spending the day in and around Palmerston North picking up solved puzzles. We also need a couple more Multies to finish off a Challenge back in Auckland.
Parked nearby and followed some signs to the Karaka Grove. Some very impressive specimens here. Wandered through the Grove and managed to locate the cache without too much difficulty. Thanks for bringing us to this interesting location.

A quick find whilst in the area. What a nice little spot, tucked away in the back of Massey. TFTC. Pick up TB.
Great to see such an old cache - well done for keeping it in play .
Well ain't this a hidden gem! Great to see a geocache here. Quickly located the cache with the use of the hint.

Tftc found with Wolfvixen0 who had found before she said there was a reflector in the tree but it is not there now. Nice wee spot
This is nice little area. I couldn't find any reflector but the cache was locatable using the hint. +bookmark -TB. TFTC.
#3499. Came at night, and parked outside the gate as advised, even though it was open. Nice walk to the grove, but couldn't pick up any reflectors upon entering. Decided to go exploring a bit ... and found something interesting. The cache was soon located. Now that we knew where the cache was, we still couldn't pick up any reflector nearby. Well ... walked back to find, lo and behold, that the gate across the drive-way was now shut. Glad the car was outside.

Came here around midday today and found cache quite quickly in the most probable location. I didn't have much trouble locating the entrance to the grove, I parked in Batchelar Rd and quickly spotted the slightly obscured road sigh pointing to it. Despite having a torch with the light intensity of a car headlight, I wasn't able to spot the reflector - but I didn't need it anyway. Signed log, TFTC.
