Unfortunately it looks like there are no plans to reopen this part of the Buck Taylor track.
"Partial opening only is proposed between Pararaha Track and Zion Hill Track. The remainder of the track between Zion Hill and Lone Kauri Rd will not be included."

This one's a good candidate to keep if the track does re-open.

This is disabled while the track is closed.

Sadly the track the final is on is closed for Kauri Dieback. Will collect if it reopens.

I was only supposed to stay in Piha for 2 nights, but ended up staying here for 6 nights, this place is just soo tranquil and beautiful. Today I decided to drive to Karekare beach and the surroundings, and it's just as beautiful here.

About this cache:
This was an interesting puzzle. I still can't figure out how everyone can get the same coordinates I didn't quite take the easiest way in to gz, luckily I found a better way out. I had to google what a Tee Tree is, so now I also know what that is. It wasn't too hard to find the container, it was harder to get to it. I finally managed to sign the log, after adding some more scratches to my body. Thanks for a fun puzzle and cache. Greetings from Norway

I was looking at cache listings at our holiday destination to see if I could find some puzzles to solve. Came across a technique that I hadn't seen before and decided to see if there were any local caches using the same idea. None in Auckland but one in the Tron and one in Oamaru that we'll get next month - but in the meantime I saw this cache that I hadn't looked at in a while. Had a go at the math and got a tick so we decided to pick this one up today.

Walked to the hiding spot and think we probably took the wrong way in but still wasn't too much of a problem. Albert the geohound got very excited and judging by the amount of droppings about we assume there is a good population of rabbits about the place. Our GPSr had us between some hint items so we had to check a couple and there it was. Log is a bit wet but all the same we were able to sign - could use a dry summer perhaps. Thanks for the cache, nice to get another one that has a bit of history behind it now that it's 10 years old.

Thank you very much for the puzzle!
This is in relation to Puzzle Puzzle (GC2F9PJ), a cache close to us in Leeds, UK.

When/If we're ever in the correct 'neck of the woods' I'll be sure to seek out this cache.

Cheers

Solved the riddle yesterday and grabbed the cache today.
It's wet, some sun would be great! Wink
Thanks for hiding!

An interesting bit of maths soon gave me the coords needed. Spotted the cache easily sitting on the ground near GZ. Log book is extremely wet. Tucked cache away a bit better than how I found it. Nice lookout from here. TFTC

This was our first stop on what turned out to be a long day of hiking. I was amazed that you found a spot that fit so well with this puzzle. TFTC.

The first of a number of caches we found today while out with a group of cachers who met up to do the Pararaha Valley. A nice view of the surrounding area.

found it as part of the Pararaha valley event. this is just the begining, now long way to go. tftc.

Solved the puzzle for this one ages ago, and only got round to finding it on our afternoon run today. Fairly quick find, and I think the hint was the most useful hint I've ever seen! (Not!) Great idea for the puzzle! TFTC.

Vamber, Metzgan and myself decided to tackle some of the Waikateres this holiday, so we decided to start with this walk, we had heard good things about it so were looking forward to the walk.

We solved this cache whilst we were sat further down the track at another cache, coords took us to the middle of the field with a tree that didnt match the hint, so expanded our search and soon had the cache in hand. TFTC

I solved this puzzle ages ago and lost the solution a couple of times. Resolved it again yesterday as I knew I was going to be out in this area today. I was tired from an earlier long walk but still made it up to the cache. Classic. TFTC, Biggles.

28-Dec-15
A nice sunny summer's day meant for an early set off with yorkshirekiwi83 and metzgan to tackle the tracks of Karekare today. Solved this cache on the fly while sitting down at an earlier find this morning, so decided to place this one on the list for today as well. After narrowing down which hint item we were meant to be searching, the cache was soon in hand. Thanks for the puzzle and hide! Smile

12-Nov-15
Out with nigelbarnes11 for a day of hiking and caching. Came down Buck Taylor track and up the paharaha valley. Solved it a long time ago but finally came down here!

25-Sep-15
Solved as part of the Leeds 'Puzzle Puzzle' cache. Unfortunately this one's a bit too right-on-the-other-side-of-the-world for me to pick up. Nice puzzle though!

28-Aug-15
Solved this one quickly in the car before sitting off with the plane to grab this one on the homeward bound trip. As i was sitting in the car some chickens decided to come say hi and have a argument with their reflections in my car and try peck them. Chased the chickens away and hoped that I wouldn't come back to a car with all its pain missing from its lower panels.

Solved as part of the Puzzle Puzzle (Leeds Uk mystery cache). Bit too far to collect the smiley but maybe one day! TFTC

After the bout of bad weather during the week, there was a break in the bad weather so went out to explore another part of the Waitakere Ranges and pick up a few caches along the way.

I started from Lone Kauri Road onto Buck Taylor Track, part way along I went off the trail to hunt for the Grecian & Baldy caches, the views from Baldy were awesome but the Gorse wasn’t awesome. I managed to get there and back without getting lost or falling off hidden bluffs.

Once back on the Buck Taylor Track I made my way down to the Pararaha Valley Track, the beasty Aloe Vera that guards R18 – Room with a view was still there and looked bigger than the last time I saw it. The track junction and track going towards the beach was submerged.

While walking along the Pararaha Valley Track, I could see Baldy in all its glory, it looks so high up from down here, after admiring the scenery and crossing the stream I quickly made my way to the Muir Track which was nice and muddy all the way up to the junction.

The Walker Ridge Track also had its fair share of mud. The Pine trees were interesting, Pine trees aren’t a common sight in the Waitakere Bush. It was getting late in the day so picked up the pace until I got to the Odlins Timber Track where I had to slow down a bit on the downhill bits, the mud and ruts added to the challenge. I thought the stairs after the stream crossing wouldn’t end but eventually made it back to Lone Kauri Road. A great day in the bush for exercise, fresh air and caching.

It took me a little while to find the right Tee tree but once I did find it, the cache was found soon after. The first find for the day. TFTC.

23-May-15
After a very very rainy saturday, the weather forecast looked better for today. I decided to come early in the Waitakere Ranges for walking and geo-caching !
Target of the day = go down along Buck Taylor track and come back to the car through Walker ridge track. Next to BT track, some difficults caches... how to resist this challenge. The track was very wet, muddy and slippery. However, I'm used to this and had taken 2 poles which were really helpfull !
Back from my walk, I nearly missed this one ! on the car park I did twice the calculations with 2 different numbers : ok, looks good. Final stage is not too far, however I have to go back on the track where I came from. Doesn't matter ! after a short walk, I left the track and headed towards GZ. I was not sure what a Tee Tree was... now I know. Coordinates were a bit off, by 6 to 8 m.

I had arranged to meet the male half of kiwicouple here at this carpark at 8am, got there a little bit late and I had rustynz the female half of Rebel98 with me and we were ready to make an attack upon Grecian 200 and Baldy. But upon arrival kiwicouple had sorted out how to do this cache "Your Number' and worked me and rusty through it, it is so amazing how random numbers can still arrive at the same result and work like that! So this cache became the first for us today. We didn't take long to find it and of we went up and over the hill to never-never land. Cheers tofska.

11-Apr-15
A puzzle that I had solved last year, and at last have made the time to come and find. On a caching adventure with Mr kiwicouple and Gorby. I had packed the co-ordinates just in case, you never know where you might end up when out on a bush walk. The track was a little wetter than last week, probably due to the rain overnight, only a couple places that wanted to take you out. Safely arrived at GZ with a smile Big Grin

This was both a clever puzzle (how does its work?) and hidden in such a beautiful location. Thanks for the puzzle and the hide.

11-Apr-15
This cache has been on our 'solved but unfound' list for probably longer than any other - not sure why we have never come to collect it before.
On a caching adventure with Gorbygorbachov and rustynz this morning, this one happened to be the first one to look for. You certainly managed to find an interesting spot to hide the cache and fit the puzzle. Thanks.

Solved for Leeds Puzzle Puzzle - it looks like a gorgeous part of the world, hopefully one day we will be able to visit

Very very cool puzzle, which I have solved before an upcoming trip in the area just before the Auckland mega... so ages ago... We decided to search for it at the end of the 'walk' but after the adventures of a long day, we ended up somewhere else and a only send a driver with another car to come and collect us. So the puzzle remained solved and the cache unfound until I had the opportunity to pop in on the way to Piha Smile Nice quick walk to collect the cache, good to have this one sorted! TFTC!!

Come and join us at the next New Zealand geocaching MEGA event!! Register now at http://www.nzmega2015.com to receive newsletter updates and be the first to know. It has only been a couple of weeks since I was last in the area collecting a few other caches so back here once again to see what else we can find in the way of small plastic boxes in the Bush. This time we are caching as F1HICKS being made up of FMZ, Paultaps, 11HPG11, kiwis69, HKCB, iammrwalker, Cats&Dragons.

This was always going to be a long and interesting day, possibly due to the many little sidebars that we took to find other caches nearby as it seemed a shame to pass them up. By the end of the day we had covered approx 15-16kms through some very different landscapes than what we normally find in the Waikato.

This was the first of the day and possibly the simplest to locate having just wandered up here after having deposited the cars at each end of the trail that we were to take for the days excursion. The remainder of the day was just going to improve from here.

Thanks for the placement

24-Jan-15
Out for another mission with 11HPG11, Kiwis69, Cats&Dragons, IamMrWalker, with Paultaps and FMZ. Funnily this mission was devised when we were last up here taking on multiple high terrain caches earlier in the month. All up it was a fantastic day out, about 15km's covered, a few stream swims and a swamp dealt with and a summit conquered, so the beer at the end of the day was well earned. The logs were signed F1HICK.

First cache of the day, once we had the cars placed so a car was at the end point for the day. A great short walk to the cache to stretch the legs after the drive up from Hamilton. No troubles finding the cache, and a nifty little puzzle. Had to try it with a couple of number to work out how it works.

24-Jan-15
This was the first find on a long day out with some fellow Hamilton caches ( and one or two Auckland ones as well) on one of our infamous 'missions'. It was a nice warm up cache find for what lay ahead. The puzzle was easy but cleaver and fun. Those who had yet to grab this cache did so while the others in the group dropped a car off at another car park so we could be ferried back later in the day. A nice big cache which we had no problems locating.

24-Jan-15
Another Hamilton mission, with some crazy keen cachers. Today I teamed up with FMZ, myself, HKCB, Iammrwalker, Catsanddragons, Kiwis69 to form the team F1HICK. We were also kept company by the wonderful guide/guinea pig Paultapps.

This was the first of the day and a great wee puzzle that I tried out a few times to see how it worked. While those that had found this shifted cars we warmed up our legs and came up here to find this cache. Nice spot with some fantastic views. thanks for the puzzle and the cache.

18-Jan-15
The first cache of the day as Mr P and I set out on our mission to complete our Difficulty/Terrain Grid with the Parapara Point Pa. T4tc

A last minute change of plans meant the rest of the whanau were off on another adventure & I had the day to myself: yeah, the perfect opportunity to grab my boots & head to the hills! Frustratingly, haven't been walking/tramping of late, coz of a knee injury when rock hopping to lava caches on Rangitoto in late October, but finally got the green light this week to re-start 'short easy hill walks' .... not exactly sure what distance/terrain the physio had in mind for that, but decided best not ask for clarification!

Realised on the way here that I'd forgotten the corrected co-ords, so had to re-solve the puzzle in the car-park. Was slightly apprehensive that I should have chosen something with fewer foot/knee-twisting options than Buck Taylor track but it was all good, & it wasn't long before I got to GZ for a nice quick find. Thanks for the added incentive to explore a new-to-me track, TFTC

19-Sep-14
I solved this puzzle years ago now. It has been dutifully transferred from one puzzle book to the next. Really time to complete the formalities on this one! So this was the first objective on my outing into the wilderness today. No problem finding the cache. Cache is showing signs of letting water in. There seems to be statistically significant relationship between people solving this puzzle and signing this logbook...random! Cheers for the fun puzzle cache placement!

Worked out as part of Leeds Puzzle Puzzle shame can't come to find it for real wasn't geocaching when I visited NZ in 2004 but always have fond memories of my trip beautiful country I'd recommend visiting

got all excited that i had finally managed to solve a puzzle.. not normally having a puzzle capable brain.... so knew i was off today to stroll in the area with Mr Vistra... so heading off from the car told him all about the solve.. and that was our first on the list today... only for Mr V to remind me we signed that log back in april on the way to taking him out to baldy..(08 april 14). ( as he had just solved it him self...) we at least now i guess i can say the log is legitimate;-)

08-Apr-14
I solved this puzzle ages ago and was in the area today for a hike with Alligatorsnz and Natoratia and happened to walk past the final location of the cache, so stopped by to pick it up. A quick and easy find at the start of a long day in the Waitaks. Thanks for the nice puzzle and cache!

Thats a clever wee puzzle. Whats even more clever is finding a spot that fits with the answer. Well done.
Will have to see if Hanjac and I can get a space to make it work at Burraga in May.

1805 Had solved this one before heading to NZ for the Auckland MEGA, and having slept over in the car park (in my tent) I thought I would have chance to get it before heading off on the Pararaha Gorge walk, but didn't realise that we took a different track. So stopped by after the walk and grabbed it then.
All good with the cache, dry and intact.
Will add a book mark for the Puzzle Solving elective.

Reperio at 0730.

I met Grahame Cookie at the nearby car park for a day of walking along the Pararaha Gorge to Karekare Beach, and while talking about this puzzle...he had solved it before arriving to New Zealand. He quickly filled me in on the details, and so with time before the rest of the group arrived, I headed off to make the find. This was a clever little puzzle based on an old maths riddle. A lovely area for it too.

Gratias tofska.

I joined last minute the Mega Group Heading out to Pararaha Gorge/Karekare Beach. And oh boy did I learn a lot today. E.g.
Walking the whole day with new & watery shoes is not bad, I am not afraid of heights, I gained hands on experience about rock climbing and that swimming in a very cold stream could lead to hypothermia. Thanks to Paul and Alan for organising and thanks to the whole group helping me along the way...

After this awesome walk the trip guides taxied us back to our cars. A small group still found the energy to go after the last one of the day. TFTC

as a puzzle challange in leeds, UK this came us to solve to get co ords to a 5* 1.5* cache, maths was never my strong point, i gave up education to concentrate on booze, women and cigs, so one minor error corrected and blam, kapow, sok (old skool batman phrases think adam west) solved and nearly at the puzzle cache thanks for the head scratch

Out tramping with some Scouts & Venturers, and showed them some geocaching on the way. They didn't manage the find and were ready to give up, so I had a quick look and came up with the cache. A bit damp inside - dried it out as best we could. Thanks for the interesting puzzle and cache location.

First find of an "unknown" cache. Solved before Christmas and managed to get out there this weekend. Great views from the cache site. TFTC

This is becoming a bad habit of mine, solving caches I will probably never get near because of distance but they are fun anyway! Maybe I can get rewarded with a hug instead in view of the Hug a cacher coin being there at present Wink.
Interesting maths and clever selection of location.
PS thanks simwil for drawing attention to the "Puzzle Puzzle" cache, I was not aware of it and as I was born within a short distance of Leeds and lived there as a child before coming to NZ (you don't need to know how long ago that was or how old I was.... Wink I had better start work on the other ones for that cache- though I am not sure whether I will ever return to visit my homeland to grab it!

Out with Coldstream to finish off the caches we started a week ago in this area. Solved this one years ago but have only just got here now. We walked along the Zion Ridge Track picking up others on the way. Had a morning tea here before venturing down the Buck Taylor Track.

4.10pm. Mrs.F. thought she caught a glimpse of Zorgon arriving back at his car just as we were arriving and preparing to start. Maybe? Anyway we had a couple of Kiwanians with us - we were having a club overnight at the Auckland Tramping Club hut off Anawhata Road - and introduced them to the art of geocaching. In the vicinity of GZ we had a fluctuating and confused gps and were keeping an eye on muggles out with a wandering dog. Despite all these difficulties but aided by the hint we located the cache without too much difficulty. An enjoyable interlude. The puzzle had been enjoyable also.
Many thanks M@.

The boys started with this one. We did the Buck Taylor track before and thus knew the carpark and the way up - but not in that muddy and slippery state (it had rained shortly before). We struggled a little bit with finding the cache and Rumo started to think that if they continue having issues finding the caches, they will surely be overtaken by the girls. Hopeful #1 found it after ~7 mins and we both signed the log. On our way back, we got into some drizzle, but didn't really care and instead enjoyed the sunlight transforming the raindrops into a glittering curtain, moving slowly through the valley.

This is Rala's story:
What a cool puzzle! It is always a mystery how equations can work out so nicely... Rala and Hopeful #2 knew the trail from former visits (it is nice to do it in the whole, nevertheless you better should be prepared). Track was slippery because of the rain in the night and morning. After reaching GZ, Rala found the cache very quickly.

14:20 Well stopped at the carpark for a quiet lunch. When three carloads of India people turned up. They asked me where the local Hindu temple was. I had to admit to them that I didn't know. But I did know where a lunchbox was hidden in the hills. They backed away with a bemused look and left the area. Big Grin Great stuff I continued with my lunch, hopefully they did locate the temple in the end.

What a great cache, very cool how my number was the right one. A great guess if I say so myself. Great views on the way to the cache. Thanks Matt for the cache.

Out on a walking adventure with XenaCommander... LOOK NO WHEELS. We decided to bag this one on the way to Karakare. What a view. We were to pass this spot again later in the day after scrambling up the Pararaha Valley.
TNLNSL Thanks for bringing us here and for the number trick, that was cool.

An early start with TechnoKitten with the intent to do a tramp up the Pararaha Gorge to fetch Glyns Lovers Ensuite-Al fresco... I saw this one where I made a wpt for my navigation and thought we would do it.
Hmmmmm Numbers!!! How the hell does that give the same answer.. Both TK and I did it and got the same result..
I am a computer guy but I don't understand a lot of maths..!!
sometimes doesn't seem logical.
We rode west on Splat and parked in obvious spot.. and walked up to GZ.. Easy find..
Nice to see Lizard TB.. thought I would uplift him and move him on...
TK Signed the log in her usual creative style.. we left calling cards.
Thanks for the cache M@.. We haven't found one of yours for a while.. Always in a nice spot.. we were to return close by on our way back from the gorge hike...

On a cycling training ride between Auckland CBD and Karekare, I had a crack at finding this now that I have a GPS unit. The walk up the track was quite easy after all the climbing on the bike, so this turned into a relatively easy find Smile. Enjoyed the good view from the spot, before walking down and heading back to Auckland!

I was a victim of Murphy's law with this cache as I had walked in the area just the week before it was listed and it was only today when a fellow walking group member sugested the Paraha stream as a destination for today. Recalling this caches position I hastily agreed and off we went.

Luckily I had the description along as I had made a slight error in the co-ords entry which was obvious once in the area and once corrected it led to an easy find. Just as well I searched on the way in as I was so fatigued on the return that I doubt I could have mustered the energy for a search on our return.

Beautiful warm day (almost like summer!) for a pleasant walk and hunt. A friendly hen at the carpark hopped into the car for a scavenge (must vacuum the crumbs more often!)

Well this cache was part of a grand plan. Needing a long training run/shuffle/slip/slide/tramp I set out on a long loop to the cache and return (5 hrs total). The Waitakeres was in fine form after two days rain, greasy tracks, mud, tree roots, all the usual stuff.

The cache was about half way round my loop and just as I was firing up the GPS some muggles arrived at the scene and enquired if I was lost. No, I said, just having a drink. Eventually they left and I could get on with the job. Cache was an easy find and excellent views to be had.

Picked up TB, didn't really want the extra weight, but couldn't resist it. Finally arrived back at the car, legs stuffed, muddy, but satisfied with the trip. Thanks M@
