Went to see the waterfall and on the way back picked also this one. Thanks for inviting!
Bless us and splash us, precious. I came to catch a fish but got this cache instead. Gollum mustve been really cold in this creek, especially only wearing a loincloth. Quick find, all is well here. But no fish yet. TFTC
All in good order here! Some crazy people taking a dip and some other crazy people abseiling down the cliff! Our caching hunt was tame in comparison.
Thankyou for the temporary care of the cache, we spotted it in the tree. We have left it hidden in the same area. Please follow new hint.Maintenance has been performed and replaced with new cache container changed to screw top , with another inner container for the logbook. It is now permanently above ground in the old camo bag. Please replace with care. ***NEW HINT: find start of track, go down the first 3 steps and turn off track at the lowest step and head off to the right... into the trees, look for a hollow in mossy trunk. Please replace exactly as found.
Lovely wee walk to see the waterfall. Took a bit to find this as coordinates on my phone led us awry. Found on opposite side of track to danger ice sign, and now in a tree. Will log maintenance request as lid missing, both logs very wet.
Lid is missing, disintegrating coffee cup as makeshift lid. Both logs sodden. Found today in a tree near its intended location
Out with Kiwi Does Stuff making our way back down the mountain, this cache took a bit to locate, logging post find I can see the owner maintenance has been logged for the same reasons as we had found it. Log was frozen in ice so we couldnt sign. TFTC! Cool spot
Start of July, that means first day for visiting snow for myself and Reschedule. This year we decided to go all the way around the the southern slopes. This was an awesome spot, the frozen river and waterfall were awesome, so many opportunities here. Unfortunately the cache itself (Located near to but not at the hint location) was frozen, and at some time in its life the lid has gone missing and been replaced with a takeaway coffee cup.
Dekujeme za kes moc krasny vyhled na vodopad a zrovna bylo po velkem desti akorat schranka na kes by potrebovala udrzbu schazelo vicko a vsechno bylo navlhle.
Found with Dali87 within our famous trip around New Zealand. Thanks for nice cache ....................................................................... TB Koumesovo geopivo DDEV7M
2nd casual find in NZ. Container lid is missing so the log is a bit soggy. TFTH!
Today we had a long transport from National park to Wellington. But on this long trasport we need to see some really nice places and also have breaks. This break was first one and also with cache. Thanks a lot for cache.
After doing a short walk in the town of Ohakune, we drove up the mountain to reach the top ... we came to about 1650 meters. On the way back, we stopped to see the waterfall. After a short search, we located the cache and logged it around14:55 hrs.Punga and Paua, thanks for placing and maintaining the cache.Attention: The top seems missing, rest is OK.

The description for this one was very helpful in locating the cache. Nice spot, thanks for the cache! Picked up the TB, will be taking it back with me to Auckland

It's absolutely freezing here today. Had a nice little walk to admire the falls. With good description cache was found quickly. Tb drop. Tftc.
We were doing a reenactment of a scene from two towers and found this. TFTC!
Exploring the area and checked out Mangawhero Falls. Signed the log. TFTC
On our New Zealand Trip we are of course also visiting the Tongariro Nationalpark. We looked for and found quite a few caches, doing some shorter walks here and there. This was one if them. Nice spot Tftc!
Our journey continues north. Here we spend a few days in the Tongariro National Park. Got first impressions today and found a few geocaches. Beautiful places.
Before I go south I did a circuit on the Nationa Park and found some Caches.
In the morning you could see the Top of Tahurangi.
Thanks.

We arrived yesterday evening in Ohakune and had a look on the weather forecast for today. It wasn’t that good but left some hope in the morning.
So first thing this morning, take the route up mt Ruapehu, which was visible from below. After the Waitonga Falls we went up to the base station of the ski domain. Stopped here to discover other amazing falls.
Thank you for the cache, and merry Christmas

Very scenic with the lovely sound of rushing, thundering water which was calming. Came on a sunnyish day. TFTC!
My phone's gps has now stopped cooperating, says I am 4km away. But thanks to good notes an easy find on a great day.

Soon had cache in hand on our mountain adventure on our first day in ohakune. TFTC
My first time up this side of Ruapehu. Lovely and interesting place. Snowfall on top and rain when we got to the falls. Took some time to find but was so much fun. Beautiful day out with FMZ
Stopped here so many times before but today was the day to get the cache. Tftc
Been up the mountain today, again stopped at these falls so many times before. About time we stopped and got the cache. The hint had us looking all over initially, but then widened search and Kimbathelion soon had cache in hand. Tftc at such a lovely spot
I was sure I’d located this one a few years ago, maybe I forgot to log it? Anyway, not enough snow to be playing on the mountain today so exploring and caching were on the dance card. Viewed the Falls and the magnificent scenery before locating the cache. Thanks for placing a cache at this particular feature!
Sneaky! Didn’t have this one downloaded so was a bit of a fossick before I spied it. Many thanks
We intend to drive to the top and bike down back to Ohakune, but first some waterfalls and geocaches to be found and photographed on the way up. TFTC
We have never been up this side of the mountain before, so headed up to check the view. A quick easy find.

Today I travelled up to Horopito to replace my missing PWGT geocache at Smash Palace, with the added incentive of a new Reach the Peak mountain to climb.
Having completed that assignment, I’ve returned to geocache my way up the mountain road.
This old cache is my thirteenth find today of sixteen, found at 13:45 as I missed it on the way up.
In the seventies I came up this road regularly to stay at the Massey University Alpine Club hut. The road was metalled all the way and only occasionally graded of snow in Winter. Fun was had just getting to MUAC. I remember about 1976 (?) when the first chairlifts and buildings were erected upgrading the Broadbent’s rope-tow ski run to the facilities at Turoa now.
We used to drive up on Friday night irrespective of the conditions or depth of snow on the road, just driving on top of the icy crust of the snow drifts. Hairy fun driving downhill. More fun doing it after a couple of hours at the pub in Ohakune. **NOTHING like that nowadays.**
The section just past here was the worst part of the road. Sharp left turn; followed by steep icy section from always being in the shade; the dreaded hairpin, and the steeper section after it. I didn’t make it one time and abandoned my Avis rented Mini at the hairpin, and walked the rest to the hut in heavily falling snow. Imagine my surprise when the grader came up the next day and just missed scraping up the now buried mini with the snow drift. Fortunately the driver saw the bright red car just in time.
As for this cache. Very nice camo, but I’m concerned the damage being done, “Reach[ing] into a ground-cover bush.” There’s bits of dead ground cover bush here. The conservationist in me says that’s wrong.
Great camo. Nice little walk to the falls outlook; deserving of the FP count, but I won’t be adding to it. TFTC

This took a wee bit of hunting. What a neat place to stop! Fav Point for that.
Time for another trip to the North Island for Ms_KR and me. Wellington and beyond here we come. Today we cruised around Ohakune, until the engine cooked that is. It would have to be New Years Eve.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Thanks Punga and Paua for the cache. It’s #1550 for us. We found your cache on 29 December 2021. Took a bit of searching but finallly turned it up.
After a quick trip to the Turoa ski field for some possible photos (way too much cloud about today), we decided to cache our way back down the mountain. Checked out the water feature first and took some photos as the cloud rolled in and then started the hunt for the cache. It took a few minutes before we zeroed in on more likely hiding spots with the help of the clue. Mrs B finally came up with success - we imagine this cache would have been under snow a few months ago. Thanks for placing this cache!
A weekend was planned up to national park with hopefully a trip up the mountain and a ride on the sky Waka and hopefully a little bit of caching as well.
But how lucky were we we managed the whole three, and what a good weekend was had by all.
On arrival it was going to look difficult to locate this one but not after reading the hint, we pretty much put our hands right on it.

A weekend trip was planned awhile ago to venture up to national park with watcache and xsaveya and hopefully up the mountain to have a play in the snow. Having such a fun weekend and caching as well tops the weekend.

So here I am, spending a few days at the Chateau witha muggle, and with it raining/overcast on this side, we decide to make the pilgrimage to Johny's for the chocolate eclairs and apple sponge
With the mountain calling us, we made the decision to drive up the Mountain road and check the snow conditions. We know it will be not good, as the ski field is not going to open until the end of the month.
So after checking out the non-existent snow. We stop at the waterfall on the way down. Now I had not realised this cache was here, although I had already saved it to the phone. So here I am taking lots of photos, then we watch a muggle climb over the fence and cross over the top of the waterfall, ruining our photos, but also they have ignored the signs about staying on this side of the fence.
Eventually they move, we capture the water, and head back to the car. That is when I looked at my phone, and called out there was a cache here! yeah
Well luckily the hide is close to the car, as I had not taken a pen with me. With the cache found, the log signed, we both were very pleased we did the impromptu stop at the waterfall sign.
Off to walk to the viaduct, thanks for the hide Punga and Paua, cache all good today

A quick find here today while making a pilgrimage around Mt Ruapehu finding some cool caches in some great spots. TFTC
Beautiful waterfall, we found the cache in between 2 cars coming to admire the view. The boys took the temperature of water just upstream from the waterfall, it was 8 degrees. TFTC
Took a trip from Taranaki to National Park for the long weekend to walk the Tongariro crossing again but the weather wasn't playing the same game as us so instead I got some more caches around the area that I missed out on last month while over here.
Took a trip around the mountain's today and revisited places we haven't seen for many year's, forgot how long and steep the drive up to Turoa was
Thanks to the CO'S for the placement and maintenance up in this area.
Apologies for the generic logs

Easy find, short walk.
Two log books, pen, pencil, Dory domino tile. And now some safety pins.
There's a lovely aroma from the flora on the way to the waterfall lookout.

It's raining today but I still love places like this... extra peaceful with the gentle rain and no wind...
This 14yr old cache is lasting well with a solid container and holey raincoat- yay it's a nice dry logbook.

After having beautiful weather for several days whilst we stayed at National Park, today the weather changed and we were unable to do any more hiking. Instead we came down to Ohakune, and picked up a few caches as well as heading up the Mountain Road. We got a bit wet finding this one, but hey, that's all part of geocaching! TFTC
Glorious day to be out exploring. Couldn't find our way to the bottom of the falls so admired it from the lookout. Took a while to find the geocache but we got there. It was further from the path than we thought. Tftc
Took a little time as could be anywhere in the area according to a hint.
I'm happy i didn't gave up.
Beatiful spot nearby.

#8886. I spent the night in Ohakune before driving north to Auckland later today. Had a nice early start with a frosty morning (yep there was ice on the windscreen of the car on the last day of December). The mountain looked lovely this morning with some snow still present on the upper slopes. Decided with the fine, sunny and fairly calm weather it was perfect conditions to ascend the mountain and do a few geocaches. Parked in the carpark and walked over to the top of the waterfall. Had already been to one waterfall today so decided not to do this one but it looks like a decent drop over the bluff. Headed to the coordinates and soon spied the cache hidden as described in the hint. So still here despite what was stated in the previous log. Nice to find an old cache still going strong. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache where found. Thanks Punga and Paua for hiding it here.
We are on a ten day road trip to Taranaki, The Forgotten Highway, Taumaranui, Ohakune and back home to Palmy. Along the way will be sightseeing, short mountain walks, museum visits, a rail cart journey and, of course, geocaching.
Day 9 was Turoa day - some caches and walks. Travelling up Mountain Rd we stopped for this cache first. It took a wee bit of searching for with information on the page being helpful. We then walked on to the viewing spot for the Mangawhero Falls, a delightful little walk through beech forest and alpine garden. We took a photo from the top of the falls and another from the lookout. Thanks for bringing us here Punga and Paua.

Have been checking finds on my aging Montana 650 and have discovered finds from 18 months ago that I hadnt logged before. Got wet feet seraching in the wrong place. Great location for a cache, thanks.
Part of our ohakune collection of caches. Here for four days with the kids. Tried to find a bit of snow to play in but too late in the season. This geocache and the stunning waterfall made for a great compensation!! Tftc
Being a bit of a 'Lord of the Rings' fan I couldn't pass up on the opportunity to see 'Gollum's Pool'. It's certainly a stunning area... and very handy that there is a cache here as well. The cache contents are nice and dry and I dropped a TB, TFTC!
Due to Covid, our planned UK holiday to attend the MEGA could not proceed so plan B was a timeshare stay in Paihia so we could cache around Northland. Once again this could not proceed as we could not travel through Auckland due to the Level 3 lockdown.
A last minute plan C was put into action and our timeshare week was transferred to Turangi.
Off we went on a sunny but chilly 4 deg morning and its been quite a while since we have seen any frost on the ground so a bit of a novelty for us.
Day 3 on a loop trip around the mountains, perfect weather and very little traffic today, no problem with the find TFTC.

Found this cache quickly but not in the most pleasantest of places - lots of toilet paper around. We then walked on to look at the water feature - we could just make out a small trickle of water if we squinted really hard haha. Nevertheless it was a memorial cache (even if for the wrong reasons!) Would love to come back here after a bit of rainfall and see the change!
I fell in love with the national park yesterday as I planed a.short day trip south of Taupo before heading back north.... so much for the plan. I changed my mind quickly as I laid my eyes on Mt Ruapehu that cast a spell over me (so to speak).
Well, today I am on my way to Ohakune where I'll spend the following two nights. Of course, I had to stop, taking the Whakapapa lift on the top. It was worth the time and money.
I. Was. Speachless. Embracing. The. Powerful. Moment.
If course, this cache couldn't hide very long as I was on my mission to the top.

The phone was bouncing around with various possible locations, so we resorted to using the GPS. After this we soon had the cache in hand.
What a beautiful spot! The weather was pretty terrible today, but was still a great spot. On a side note, it's a shame to see so much toilet paper around the area tftc
We will make a round trip on the road with a few stops to admire the place.
