#6946 (5 of 10 today)

Well...
I'm after some finds today - those calendar finds don't just go up by themselves. But what to do?

I've been stuck on 49 Large finds for a while, and of course there's a Challenge Cache I've been eyeing that requires 50. But unfound Large caches near home aren't in any sort of supply.
I've also noted that the most different cache sizes I've found in a day is five. That leaves two to increase that stat by, and again there are Challenge caches around...

After a look outside the Sydney Basin I worked out that if I head up to Gosford I can actually grab all seven sizes, which will, of course, include that 50th Large find.
Sounds like a plan!

But making sure I get the seven meant that I ended up backtracking a bit, and snagged a few extras just before heading home, close to where I started.
###END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION###
Sizes Snagged - 5 out of 7:
Micro: DONE - *The Contest (GC69K1K)*
Small: DONE - *The Angel Islington (GCY3KH)*
Regular: x
Large: x
Virtual: DONE - *A Gift from the City of Edogawa (GC891PK)*
Other: DONE - *Meander through the Mangroves (GC5AHNV)*
Not Chosen: DONE - *Rumbalara Rocks (GCFDA9)*
###END OF SIZE CHECK LIST###
Continued on from *Rumbalara Rocks* and was soon at GZ.
Took a few minutes looking in the obvious spots before sighting it in a less obvious spot.

Completed signing duties and replaced. Then decision time. Keep going for another cache size, or go to my initial target for a regular. Hmm. Initial target it is.

And as I got back to the locked gate, spotted a local - the second in a few minutes.

My car gps took me to 500 metres from GZ and I decided that was probably a better option than trying to find a closer park but when I hit the hill , I thought maybe it wasn't the best option but as I got closer I realised it was probably the best option. I arrived at GZ and put the gps away and just looked for logical spots and made the find quickly that way. Thanks for the cache cphoenix tnln replaced as found sl

15/1/17. 8:37 AM.
3rd of 3 DNFs (& 2 finds) today - Point Frederick, Gosford, Springfield, Erina Heights

The morning started okay, with a find at "Tour of Tascott". What followed next was 2 hours of frustrating failure, with 3 DNFs in a row. "Sink or Swim", "Springfield Views" and then this one.

Only 1 star difficulty and a small - should get me back on track I hoped. I parked on Tulip Cl to the south and then followed Mariana "Road", which was more or less a fire trail. Lots of uphill - thankfully not as hot this morning as yesterday. I started with Shifter's recently suggested coords, but every search of the hint items around the place got me nothing. Then a search across the trail at the posted coords and back again to Shifter's.

This morning was starting to suck. Is there a mint tin in a guardrail I can get? I just wanted one more smiley. So frustrating! Maybe I could turn my luck around at "Echidna crossing"???

5.20pm of streak day #11

It's been a bit of a hectic week for all of us so we decided a bush cache was in order for this arvie. The whole team novo out for a walk in Rumbalara to get some respite from the hustle of the week was exactly what we all needed as the cool change rolled in. Did I mention yet how much I love daylight saving?? Came out to grab this one after a previous DNF. Youngest geokid spotted it as the rest of us were still walking to GZ. It was exactly where our iGPS was telling us this time. I'm certain it wasn't here last time as there were about 10 of us here last time looking around this very spot. It's a mystery. Glad to make the find!

Such a great reserve. The round trip from the car at the Mouat trail head near the lookout carpark was 40 mins and that was taking our time. If you've never made it out here before come and check it out! The other three or four closest caches around this one are also very good! Anyway we're now off to get some pizza!

Cache day out with the jcmbt1 crew and a goodey70 Geokid on this glorious Autumn day along the Mouat walk from Katandra to Rumbalara today to hit as many as we can. Coords don't really match the hint for this one although we got the gist and had many geokid hands on deck to check (what we all thought were) obvious locations. We are running out of light. Gonna move on. Maybe another time.

13-Apr-15
Halfway through the school holidays, and with mostly wet and icky weather, meant the Geokids and I were itching for a decent walk and to find some caches - so we joined Opa-Shrek today in search of the stretch of caches along the Mouat Track.
Reaching GZ and the intersection of tracks we spotted a couple of obvious logs and headed in for them, but clearly didn't pay enough attention the first time round. After circling the area and coming back to the obvious the cache was found where we had first searched ... Ain't that always the way? Smile
Thanks for the cache here cphoenix, funnily enough after almost 600 caches, mostly found here on the coast, this was my first of the Monopoly series.... Sadly no monopoly cards inside to be had, but the Geokids traded SWAG and TBs just as gladly.

13-Apr-15
Mumma-Kel and I took advantage of great school holiday weather today to take her geokids out for a bushwalk ... after being pretty much housebound all last week due to the wet weather, the kids very much needed to get out out and run off some energy ... and a walk along the Mouat Trail to Erina Trig Station where rumour had it a tea party was being held was what we figured would do the trick.

This was the second cache we came to along the trail and with the assistance of the hint, it was a fairly straightforward find ... that said, it took a couple of minutes longer to find than it should have as initially, we only had a "boy's look" at the log we figured was the likely hiding spot ... isn't that so often the way! While M-K and I attended to the required legal formalities, the kids delighted in checking through the swapping possibilities that this largish container presented ... in a caching world seemingly dominated by small and micro caches these days, it's really good to come across some larger ones in this part of the world ... Wink

Thanks cpheonix for placing this cache here for us to find ... it's my first in your Monopoly series, so now that I have this one, I'll have to get out and find the others around the Coast.

Smile

Fifth find on a trip down with Orrsome86. This was another rarer D/T rating I wanted to find, which now qualifies me for the 3x3x3 grid challenge. We parked back at Springfield Views after our car GPSr told us a ridiculous way to get in. The walk was enjoyable, with the right amount of flat and elevation. We decided not to go any further as we had other things to do today. So stopped here and searched, before heading back to the car. For a difficulty one it was a bit difficult as there were so many places it could be, but once found it was fairly easy and obvious (just not at the end, where I would have expected).
Thanks for the walk, rare rating and cache!

Found with Tombi. After our refueling at the brewery it was time to continue with a few around Rumbalara Reserve. I know there was only one road into the reserve and followed the car GPS. This lead us to the wrong street and tried to get us to drive up a power line easement. finally found the correct street and we drove up. I have been orienteering in this reserve many years ago and as we were walking i was trying to determine if it was this area or Kincumba that had the random statues along the bush tracks. I decided it was Kincumba and didn't mention them to Tombi. I was wrong as we were both startled by the one a bit further down the track. Finally arriving at the geo zone it took us while to find the correct location with Tombi finally finding it. TFTC

Deceptively simple hide. We knew where it was and gave the location a thorough going over. Eventually the cache surfaced but only after an embarrassingly long time. Shouldn't have been that hard. Thanks cphoenix.

Reperio at 0815.

On a day of caching around the Gosford area, I had eyed off the caches along this trail, and since I was keen to get out for a walk...I headed off to find them. The trail was a little wet underfoot due to recent rain, but it was a nice walk indeed. Fortunately enough for me I headed to the most obvious spot and initially ignored where the GPS wanted to take me 11m away...and soon had the cache in hand.

We came in from Brads Gully Rd and did The Angel Islington, Rumbalara Rocks, Rumbalara Heights and Grass Tree Rock.

A good fire trail in. At the Angel we realised the co-ords where not good but a look at the hint and we found teh obvious place to be and aftera quick search turned up the hide. SL TN LN TFTC

We missed the boggie man going into the Rumbalara Rocks from The Angel. We found a likely point to leave the track and soon found the fire proof hide. SL TN LN TFTC

Rumbalara Heights was next next. We enjoyed the walking track where it left the fire trail. Some nice views over the water. Soon located the hide. SL TN LN TFTC

Seeing Grass Tree Rock was not too far way we pushed on. A bit supprised to see the tables and chairs. A quich search based on teh cache name and we turned up a good sized cache. SL TN LN TFTC

(Late logging of Find - 1/2/13) Found with Cookie while he was trying, and succeeded on finding x 30 in a day.
Nice to be able to share the driving rather than having to pedal.

DNF @ 1200 GAFF1 And there I was pretending as I was walking up the hill that this is T 1½ as I could assist someone in a wheelchair to get it up the hill, but there is no way that you could get safely back down the hill IN the wheelchair Surprised
1250 GAFF3 After going back to the car, reading some previous logs from the GSAK Pocket Query I was able to find mention of better coordinates, and agree that melinas aren't too far off. Had looked in this area as I widened my search, but as it was ~20m away from GZ I wasn't too probing. This time it was soon found.
#5 of 30 in a day for the MGSc cache (GC2J6AY) requirement - 4/. So a day was put aside from my week holiday and off to Gosford and West Sydney.
Able to leave a Correct Site Marker (surgical marking pen) - based on adjusting the coordinates. But the Difficulty could be a 1½.
Brought through for mileage: Coins - 3Bros, Lighthouses, IconicBridges, B2B, Baa, Neigh Neddy and Oink, Signal 2006, Geocaching Australia 2006, 100 Finds, CITO Tag, Hollandse Klompen (clogs) and Red Racing Ninja #4 TBs, and trackable shirt.

I must admit I wandered around a bit looking for this one. It was not until a few minutes ago that I looked at the additional hint and I could have kicked myself. I walked up the loooong hill from Bradys Gully Road a nice steep climb. Found at 3pm. Co-ords on etrex 10 S33 25.125 E151 21.928 . TN left ninja. There was a Victorian bushfire coin in the cache but the instructions on where it was to go had got wet and I could not read it. I left it in the cache and will try to find the owner.

Caching today with Melelina. We spent quite a bit of time searching for this one and I was ready to move on when we heard some approaching noise on the trail. It was (who we named) "Muggle Mike from Malaysia" riding his mountain bike. He was sort of lost and between maps and GPS's we pointed out the direction he should go. Of course he was curious what we were doing. When we told him, he said he had just gone along with a friend who was caching. "Mind if I join the search," he asked? The cache was hidden quite some distance from the posted coordinates. Beginner's Luck? You bet! Muggle Mike from Malaysia soon had the cache in hand. With an accuracy of +/- 9 feet, my coordinates for the find were S 33 25.128 and E 151 21.923. Thanks Mike and thanks cphoenix. SL TFTC. And, greetings from Phoenix, Arizona, USA.

This felt like we were doing some mountain climbing! We spent a few minutes looking for this, reading the logs we spread out our search...no deal. We were considering giving this a DNF when who came riding his bike down the path...muggle Mike from Malaysia. He wanted directions, so with our handy dandy gizmos and maps we showed him the trails and where he was located. Meanwhile, after his asking what we were doing he joined in our search and found the cache for us. So much for experience... FlytoSYD and I got different coords. I will add mine to this log. TFTC
