Well, this was a slog on a beautiful day. No bike. So I walked. Some parts can be driven close to, but there is still plenty of walking to do on soft sandy terrain. Thanks.
- geocoin, + necklace.

Ended up taking around 45 minutes from car to car for the cache. It was a nice transition - roads, to sandy tracks, to nice single track for MTB Nice cache again Ed! Cheers Gav [1080]
Another trip to Tour de Kowhai to place the RoadBeast travel bug which was burning a hole in my pocket.

I have lived within a 5 bike ride my whole life and i have never notice which is quite amazing and the catch is quite well hiden but to anyone who cant find it out there it is no more then 2 steps from the edge of the path because i was looking in the vines and the shrubery behind it up on top and round the sides of the old foundation
Worked off some of the Christmas pud on this cache. Had to push the bikes for a fair bit between WP2 and WP4. Got a little confused on which way to go at the camp grounds but got there in the end. Enjoyed the shade at the seat near the cache site. TNLN.
What a great trip out. We'd considered the Avon tour, but decided on going a bit further afield. The first bit of biking was fairly average, and Oli wasn't at all impressed with biking on sand. But once we got to the track by the river - that was magic! And a great day for it too. Oli was also very impressed seeing his dad bike through the river at the end - and even more so after realising there was in fact a dry way around. Ah well - the wet shoes were a bonus too - an incentive to do the Treasure Island caches. Thanks for yet another cache in your excellent series. -Kaitangata TB, +Oregon shirt TB.
And one other thing - you could probably put a 'dogs OK' attribute on. We didn't see anywhere that they weren't.
And it is so nice to have somewhere that Mercury could run with us. He really loves to get out and run when we are biking, and there are so few places that you can actually do that.

Thank-you for another great tour on the bikes. Just got it in before the rain came back. Boy.. it's noisy by the road bridge on a holiday weekend!. Took crayfish and left turtle.
A great cache. Had fun finding it with the Barclays. Took quite a bit of poking around to locate it.
1245. We really enjoyed the bike ride - the fact that there were a number of different types of track and vegetation was an appealing part of the cache hunt. We met a runner at one waypoint who pointed out the track through the forest and that was maybe our favourite part.
At the last waypoint we met the gentleman who had actually created the final track. He still checks it out and keeps it clear of debris. In fact tomorrow he intends to be out there with his lawnmower and mow the grass edges of the track. He talked with us for long time and gave us a lot of the history of the track and area and also alerted us to some of the current problems. Apparently there is one landowner who is very anti the riders of quad bikes and he is trying to oust them from their own track. So far he has erected two lots of posts across the track and has ordered metal posts that he intends to install with concrete bases at a place on the track that will cause the most amount of harm! Someone recently has also put wire across the track at neck height trying to dislodge!? the riders. The police are very worried about this dangerous situation and they are calling a meeting in early November where the community can try to sort this all out.
With all the publicity that these actions have been given there were over 1000 people on the tracks last Sunday.
When the track was first created the school children were given the job of naming the track and setting down rules of use so the whole project is very much a community one.
At the carpark there is a vintage Duncan Trailer. This was given to the community by the same gentleman that we were talking to. $6000 was then raised for its restoration and now it is on public display. The original timber couldn't be used because it was Australian and so a macrocapa tree that was growing on the site was felled and the timber mill brought in equipment and milled the timber on site. This timber was used in the restoration process. The trailer was originally built by the Clyde Steele works in Sheffield, England.

A nice day for a bike ride, the cold breeze didn't trouble us much we still got hot and bothered. Completely misread the first WP number. Don't read it side on as I did. We couldn't find WP5 number even with the clue. We must have checked every one within 30-40m as our GPS was reading anything up to 22m off course at previous WP's. So had to guess what it might have been. Got to the main road and knew my calculations had to be wrong somewhere so made another guess that put us more in the direction I thought we should be heading in. Found the cache exactly where it should be although it eluded us for a while. Found the bike trail tough going in places as my forward momentum is not up to the task in sandy soils. Loved the trail along the river. Meet trampers, motorbikes and horses. We celebrated over lunch at Pukeko Junction, fabulous food & wine.
First cache in New Zealand. Did this one with my brother Seeker36. Very nice walk, a good start to my holiday. TNLN, TFTC
