Logs
Found with Ali after we took the muggles to wathumba for the day.
Plenty of dingoes around. 2 pups approached us as we were searching for the cache and we had to scare them off.
The log is wet but writable.
Thanks for the cache, from Brissy, Australia

Mistake on last update.
We arrived on FI yesterday and set up camp in zone 8. This morning after a fish on the east coast, we decided to head over here and we were nominated to navigate across. Checked the geo map, cache either end of the track...easy peasy! Pulled up as close as possible to the cache and jumped out to go searching. Hubby was not keen after looking at the steep bank and 100m bush bash in thongs. With instructions to come in after me if I didn't resurface, I ventured into the unknown. Half way in, I found the dingo fence and made a mental note of always finding an easier way out... kept going, found the POI and the cache! All in good nick. SL and left my pen for future finders. Wandered back out along the dingo fence and startled (each other) a goanna! Took some pics, then joined our tribe swimming at low tide.
~ Be aware: our youngest was spiked in the forearm by a stonefish while exploring (commando crawling) the shallow pools around the mangroves! 5 hours of excruciating pain and so far 3 nights in hospital hooked up to 2 different types of antibiotics... arm still massively swollen!
The cache is still there. I didn't have a spare writing implement to leave behind so byo pen for now.
Took a photo to prove it was found.
After a morning of cleaning, after several days of the same, the consensus was to chill a little bit. I hadn't ever been out this, but the boss reckoned it was worthwhile. So, from Orchid Beach, the convoy pointed west. The joy of the eastern side is the firm, flat beach to drive on. Traversing the island to get to Wathumba was reasonably slow and required a many times grabbing handles inside the vehicle. But, with the scenery passing the windows, I had no complaints.
When we got to the beach on the western side, there was a few cars just leaving. Good timing! And the sun was getting low over the horizon (but nowhere near sunset just yet). This meant a good while staring to the west and thinking just how far from land it really is. Also, the sandfly promise was real!
Geocache time. I was well within a short walk of GZ, so left the group and headed inland just a bit. Even the campground had only one occupant. I followed the app, beat through just a bit of bush and arrived at the obvious GZ. And a quick geocache find at 15:15. But there's more to enjoy.
So back to the vehicles, where the group spread out a decent amount, going for a walk along the beach, watching the dingoes and generally just enjoying the pervasive serenity. This was all enjoyable and just nice. The drive back was equally bouncy, but that's ok and no issue for our convoy. Thanks sid knee for a bonus reason to visit this place
We were to try for Sandy Cape today but our plans got bogged at some notorious rocks.
Plan B enacted and this was the 3rd of 3 for the day.
The use of Australian safety boots and shorts isn't a good idea when attempting this cache. Iwas cut up a bit.
Visited trackables.
After leaving our camp site we headed across to Wathumba Creek for a sticky nose and this cache.
Thanks sid knee for placing a cache in another great spot to visit.
Had to beat a path (or four) to GZ as many trees have come down making the walk in challenging - but cache was soon found at about 0m on the GPSr sitting safe and well. We then spent a bit of time looking at the creek inlet area and chatting to some forlorn fishermen with no fish (who we then saw later at about a half dozen spots as they became tourists like us for the day).
Thanks for placing this cache, sid knee. Found in good condition.
*{Overall find #5141}*
Pprime got some intel from Old Mate at the Orchid Beach store about the track and apparently it wasn't so bad. Indeed it wasn't. However, once we parked - GETTING to the cache was more of an issue. Holy honking vegetation. Did a cyclone come through here or something?
We pushed our way through until Pprime spotted the cache right under Mrs Herbz's nose. We signed the log and made our way out. Either Team Herbz found a track or Pprime and I found a really bad way to get out of the area. We finally spilled out back to the car. We took a while to have a look at the area before heading off. Another great cache, Mr sid knee... TFTC

[red]Round trip to K'Gari[/red]
Well, the sand flies! We have been exploring the eastern part north Orchid Beach, when we droppe Mullgle Opa at the tent and ventured to the west coast. We haven't been this side - so a firt time here. The mangroves are just spectacular, with the white sands around - but the sand flies! We saw a jelly fish and sand flies. Bushed bashed to GZ, a very nice tree, mozzies in the air, not sand flies. Back to the beach, just a few meters drive where the tracks have ended, bogged... A little recovery - paying attention not to slip deeper at this high tide, ignoring the sand flies! A good place - must come at cooler times, definitely, to skip the sand flies! Driving in, we passed the dingo guardian. Thaks for putting te cache to this splendid location, but please remove the sand flies! TFTCM!

We were only on the Island 7 weeks ago and it is as dry as I have seen it in all of my years visiting.
I am hoping to get up in February so will look around for a spot but the fires have been pretty intense so maybe time to retire.
As we drove along the track the scene was blackened bush after burnt tree.
Parking the jeep at wuthumba creek I realized I'd bet lucky to find this cache as what surrounded me was all burnt bush land. They have managed to save the toilet block but that's about it.
As I wandered around GZ the ground was covered in ash there were still smoldering stumps.
I managed to find a big hole in the ground where a tree stump had burnt out and a bit of a glob of plastic (I figure was the cache).
Such a shame it has been burnt but still a beautiful area.
Another "thnx" sid knee
Happy New Year!
Thanks,
The Hancock Clan
Wathumba was certainly a highlight of our holiday. One advise. USE INSECT REPELLENT. Sandflies are mad over there.
While snorkeling we saw a turtle and a bunch of rays. Sunsets at Wathumba are gorgeous.
Careful with jellyfish! A couple of people were hospitalized after a contact with jellyfish. Also, a year ago saltwater crocs were spotted in this area.
Apart from that, happy caching! =)
Please watch the alien dingo that protects the cache at the moment.
