Went for a swim after the cache! It was delightful with just us around at a peak time of the year. Feeling fresh again.
Cache is all good and dry.
Thanks for the cache, found with Ali and the muggle husbands.
This is a great spot for a swim, but not today, it was a little crowded nice hide as I found it in the open, I’d say a small critter needed the space more!!!
This morning had been an early start, climbing over headlands, cleaning an entire beach to the south on foot, waiting out a rain shower, traipsing through abandoned campsites, and speed-cleaning in the ute. I was reasonably buggered and we were all fast running out of energy to keep going.
Of course the road in to this lake was soft and lumpy, but as the description said, we'd been through far worse (and longer). Arriving at the picnic area, others went the convoy stopped within 500 metres of a geocache and I didn't disrupt the schedule, I would go for it.
Naturally, this lake is a gem of the northern end of the island, and given longer (and maybe less geocache) I'd have considered a swim. But instead I had a track to myself, and plenty of wildlife to see; l namely a goanna and tiny, photogenic lizard. Thankfully, no snakes.
Rushing near GZ, I carefully let my phone GPS settle, read the listing and came up with the container quickly, just after 12:00. All in good condition here. I would stop briefly at the lookout on the non-lake-side of the track, and make it back just as others were pondering heading off for lunch. I'm very glad I could squeeze this in! Thanks for this geocache, sid knee
This is the furtherest we could go up the coastline on day two as a 4WD sitting on its axle had jammed on the corner blocking traffic going in both directions and it would have been a long wait for the recovery process. After finding this one in such another pretty lake location, we turned around and headed back finding other caches along the way.

Found 24 April 2021
Day 2 and it was continuing our drive north when we came to this one. While we had the island to ourselves yesterday, seems a long weekend brings out all the 4wd’s, there is a constant stream of cars on the beach this morning. We found this one very easily, with names in the log and cache replaced as found we were off to the next one on the list. Thanks for placing this one here.
Nice lake. Nice Walk.
No one's been here for a while, the track is very overgrown.
Cache was being guarded by a beautiful goanna.
all good mainly due to SWELLA replacing after the bushfire.
grabbed the TB that has been here 2 months.
have possibly an extra trip in May or else back November next year.
We were to try for Sandy Cape today but our plans got bogged at some notorious rocks.
Plan B enacted and this was the 2nd of 3 for the day.
Visited trackables took and left one.
Thanks for placing this cache, sid knee. Found in good condition.

But first - the cache was to be found. We pottered along the path - encountering a lace monitor along the way who ended up being photogenic. We got to GZ and checked out the area. Pprime eventually found the prize. I parked on the steps and did the signing duties. With the cache safely stowed where it came from we were off.
SWIMMING TIME!!! Sure the lake isn't clear - but it's still very nice. We spent quite a while frolicking about. A perfect end to the day.
A great place for a cache. TFTC sid knee

[green]Round trip to K'Gari[/red]
A great bush bash through burnt bush, fallen trees and brances and overgrowth, making it hard to find th correct path. It was a bit scritchy scratchy, but then approaching our aim, we found the old path. Probably more overgrown than other parts, as the soil did not heat up so much and grass seeds have survived. One can see, what impact a human made way has on nature, even after bushfire, giving preference to weeds. Strongly suggesting that walking paths should not be fortified - only making them clear of bush is enough. No means to change the soil, or put even resine bridges in - wood is good enough! Bashing back was easier.
Before coming here today, we had a bath in the yellow creek lagoon, jsut a few k's north! Better than the eli creek - so amazingly black! And fortunately, not yet discovered by tourist management! TFTCM!

Christmas Day! Yippee! But the search must go on. And did we search...there has been recent fires throughout the north of the island so we weren't sure how this one would have survived, especially as the description said "bucket". So we've had our Christmas fare, and a nap and it's time for a swim. Off to Ocean Lake...not a place that changes much over the years...usually...but this time the lake is very different. The entry to the lake has a big bit of land with loads of reeds growing in it and completely blocks any way into the water beyond. Always another way to be found in tho.....hang on, here to find a cache first. Off we trot along the path wondering how hard this might be. Get to GZ and figure it's not going to be easy...the fire has just left standing trees only and all the ground is now black sand from the ash. Nothing to indicate anywhere that it might be so we start poking the ground with sticks hoping to come upon a lid, without much success.
Eventually Swellerfungus catches a glimpse of a burnt rusty looking rectangular tin...bingo. Paper inside turned to ash and very nearby the metal handle of the bucket, with that being the only evidence that ever a bucket there was.
Satisfied we had found it we took it with us to replace in another container with a logbook, once owner has ok'd it. Now for that swim.
Thanks for the hide sid knee.
With the owners permission I will replace the cache, however will need to be in a new container and slightly altered coordinates. Current GZ is just too bare and burnt. I will advise once replaced.
I will include the remnants of the original cache if possible to fit it in!
