Another day in paradise having left CaptainVimes and JDavs to enjoy a day of resort living, Beardman75, LDavs and I continued in our roles from yesterday Im now playing the minor role of el banditoA bit bogged indeed I think there was some excitement amongst my companions about finally being able to whip out the maxxtrax, and not use them as a platter for wine and cheeseAfter supervising the use of the wine and cheese platters, it was decided we could walk into GZ suffice to say I may have offered cash to the muggles who arrived at Ocean Lake to take me back to the Chainsawless Pajero something akin to walking on hot coals and Beardman75 was the only person carrying a dingo stickA brilliant weekend away, only made possible thanks to some truely remarkable friendsThanks sid knee Dingo count - 1Left BR Stitch Maker Tag to continue on

04-Nov-23
Day 2 of our wonderful weekend on Kgari. We have left Captain Vimes and JDavs at the resort to enjoy a sleep in and the day spa, while Beardman75, Peppa and myself were up early to explore the north of the island. We got bogged for the first time at the start of the track, once we were out we decided to park up and walk the rest of the way. The sand was hot so the shoes had to stay on and Peppa and I tried to stay close to BM75 as he was wielding the dingo stick. We walked past the beautiful lake and made our way to GZ where BM75 made the find. Our 2nd last day on K'Gari, and having conquered Ngkala up north we headed in here for our final cache this holiday. A lovely place, and about the only time we went anywhere this week and were alone. Very picturesque

Great swimming spot here, I am so glad we came. It was the perfect start to the last day of the year. Track is a very overgrown. Watch out for snakes and spiders. TFTC. Found with gorjess516.

31-Dec-22
Super overgrown path! Was on the lookout for snakes through here

Went for a swim after the cache! It was delightful with just us around at a peak time of the year. Feeling fresh again.

Cache is all good and dry.

Thanks for the cache, found with Ali and the muggle husbands.

23-Dec-22
On a short Fraser trip with Muggle65. Great swimming spot that was very popular today. Cache was out in the open but we replaced it where hopefully it lives. Thank you for the fun

23-Dec-22
Off to catch up with some friends on Fraser Island. This is my first trip here so I’m due to find some oldies and gather some great D/T caches.

This is a great spot for a swim, but not today, it was a little crowded nice hide as I found it in the open, I’d say a small critter needed the space more!!!

14-Dec-22
Easy find on a lovely walk around the circuit. Here with some American friends who we introduced to geowandering. Cache is in good order. TFTC.

After a long morning combing a long stretch of the beach here for washed-up plastics, the convoy decided to pay a visit to Ocean Lake, given we'd drivin past a few times, always starting a dumb debate about if it'd be salty or not. I was on K'gari for 11 days with Ocean Crusaders; two weekends in Eurong for community beach clean-ups, and the days between camped at Waddy Point.

This morning had been an early start, climbing over headlands, cleaning an entire beach to the south on foot, waiting out a rain shower, traipsing through abandoned campsites, and speed-cleaning in the ute. I was reasonably buggered and we were all fast running out of energy to keep going.

Of course the road in to this lake was soft and lumpy, but as the description said, we'd been through far worse (and longer). Arriving at the picnic area, others went the convoy stopped within 500 metres of a geocache and I didn't disrupt the schedule, I would go for it.

Naturally, this lake is a gem of the northern end of the island, and given longer (and maybe less geocache) I'd have considered a swim. But instead I had a track to myself, and plenty of wildlife to see; l namely a goanna and tiny, photogenic lizard. Thankfully, no snakes.

Rushing near GZ, I carefully let my phone GPS settle, read the listing and came up with the container quickly, just after 12:00. All in good condition here. I would stop briefly at the lookout on the non-lake-side of the track, and make it back just as others were pondering heading off for lunch. I'm very glad I could squeeze this in! Thanks for this geocache, sid knee Smile

Found it thanks

20-Jul-21
So we went for a walk along this path, but didn't bring the phone (GPS). It was a very scenic walk and great to see plants making a comeback after the fires. Back at the car I see that there is a cache about were I turned around. Another walk was in order. Slightly quicker this time around. Easy find when you look in the right place . Thanks for placing this cache and causing me to get double the exercise. It is a great place and well worth the effort to get to.

Fraser Island and the surrounding beachside locations have been on my bucket list for many years so I jumped at the chance when charmad asked me to join him and Triple Turmoil on a 4WD camping trip on the Anzac Day long weekend. This was an awesome adventure with great weather, lots of laughter with many a joke and story telling, sleeping under the stars, spotting six dingoes and many beautiful birds that I've never seen before. I was amazed at the amount of lakes we visited, all very different but such a pleasure to see them.

This is the furtherest we could go up the coastline on day two as a 4WD sitting on its axle had jammed on the corner blocking traffic going in both directions and it would have been a long wait for the recovery process. After finding this one in such another pretty lake location, we turned around and headed back finding other caches along the way.

24-Apr-21
A three day camping road trip with Snickersallan, Triple turmoil and myself was organised to see Fraser Island, Rainbow Beach and Double island point. What a fantastic time we had; driving around enjoying the scenery, bush walks, visiting lakes, lunch and dinners on the beach, and a great camp site at Dundubara. The trip was full of laughs and great companionship, thank you.

Day 2 and it was continuing our drive north when we came to this one. While we had the island to ourselves yesterday, seems a long weekend brings out all the 4wd’s, there is a constant stream of cars on the beach this morning. We found this one very easily, with names in the log and cache replaced as found we were off to the next one on the list. Thanks for placing this one here.

24-Apr-21
I have never had the opportunity to visit Fraser Island. Chamad wanted an adventure. A road trip and I am super grateful that he took me along. We had a 3 day road trip, on Fraser Island, Double Island Point and Rainbow beach, plus a detour on the way home to Brisbane through Gympie, Boreen Point and Noosa. Snickersallen joined us too and it was great to meet someone new, especially someone fun to cache with. So many laughs, frustrations and more laughs. Lots achieved. Some road blocks preventing some wanted achievements, but we enjoyed ourselves anyway. This was day 2 of our adventure.

Nice lake. Nice Walk.

29-Sep-20
On Fraser Island with the family for the week. Ngalka was blocked with a breakdown and so with Geokids in the car waiting patiently for 45 mins we reluctantly abandoned the Cape plans and headed back South. A quick detour into Ocean Lake for a coffee where we were shortly joined by another half dozen disappointed cape goers! The kids enjoyed the walk to this one and even made the find before the adults! Thanks for placing this cache as it is what drew us to this section of the island. ️

All quiet here today. Too cold for a lake swim, but looked lovely. Thank you!

TFTC,
We were to try for Sandy Cape today but our plans got bogged at some notorious rocks.
Plan B enacted and this was the 2nd of 3 for the day.
Visited trackables took and left one.

17-Aug-18
I can’t come here without checking on this one for syd knee. All is well, dropped off a trackable and a wooden path tag. The trackable askedro be dropped by water, and this one certainly fits that requirement! Water all around here at Ocean Lake on Fraser Island!

13-Mar-17
We'd had a busy day charging around the top end of the Island finding all the caches up here. This one we'd saved as the last one of the day and we were looking forward to a nice dip and cool off. It was a lovely walk along the trail to GZ. We surprised a lace monitor who quickly climbed up a tree stump as we approached. He then launched himself across some thin branches, landing on a neighbouring tree and scurrying up out of reach. Arriving at GZ without further excitement we began our search. Pprime ventured further afield than the rest of us and made the find. Now back for that swim. TFTC

12-Mar-17
Taking the new (4WD) girl Suzee` Prime for an offroad spin - her first time off tar ... and here we are on Fraser! As you do. With the Mrs, Team Herbz, Sweet_bee and Fangsoki along we camped at Waddy Point and excursioned from there each day. Day Three was North, and having navigated (with a little delay north - no issues coming back as we know the tricks now) the Ngkala Rocks track we have had a great day. Now back here we pulled in to the lake and trundled off along the track for a quick find and log before returning to the carpark area for lovely relaxing swim.

Thanks for placing this cache, sid knee. Found in good condition.
Cool *{Overall find #5144}* Cool

12-Mar-17
Pprime, Sweet_bee, Team Herbz, and I had successfully made a return trip through Ngkala Rocks and now it was time to cool off in Ocean Lake.

But first - the cache was to be found. We pottered along the path - encountering a lace monitor along the way who ended up being photogenic. We got to GZ and checked out the area. Pprime eventually found the prize. I parked on the steps and did the signing duties. With the cache safely stowed where it came from we were off.

SWIMMING TIME!!! Sure the lake isn't clear - but it's still very nice. We spent quite a while frolicking about. A perfect end to the day.

A great place for a cache. TFTC sid knee Smile

this was a bit of excitement for us, found the cache, but it had a guard. a beautiful funnel web spider, he was huge and refused to get off the cache. Eventually convinced him to hop off for a moment. logged our find and left him in peace, happy days.

04-Apr-16
My family had the pleasure of joining Swellerfungus and LadySim for a week away at Fraser Island. After a day of settling in we headed out to explore some of the places I had not visited before in my previous visits to the island. I'm usually a long pants and boots cacher when out in the wild so it was a funny feeling to be wandering around the track today in shorts and thongs. Cache was found safe and well and I continued the loop around the track to rejoin the others for a swim in the lake. TFTC

11-Oct-15
Returned for another try at this one, and found an easier entry point - much easier this time. TFTC

22-Jul-15
Track is overgrown but manageable. I love walking around these parts of the island

13-Jun-15
This was an interesting area to go to and we'd certainly done some decent 4WD-ing to get here. However, we still had a fair way to go and were having a great time exploring the island. There were lots of other people around the general area but nobody seemed to take any notice of where we were going or what we were doing as far as caching was concerned. Thanks for bringing us here & for the cache.

[green]Round trip to K'Gari[/red]

A great bush bash through burnt bush, fallen trees and brances and overgrowth, making it hard to find th correct path. It was a bit scritchy scratchy, but then approaching our aim, we found the old path. Probably more overgrown than other parts, as the soil did not heat up so much and grass seeds have survived. One can see, what impact a human made way has on nature, even after bushfire, giving preference to weeds. Strongly suggesting that walking paths should not be fortified - only making them clear of bush is enough. No means to change the soil, or put even resine bridges in - wood is good enough! Bashing back was easier.

Before coming here today, we had a bath in the yellow creek lagoon, jsut a few k's north! Better than the eli creek - so amazingly black! And fortunately, not yet discovered by tourist management! TFTCM!

Here for our annual holiday on Fraser but this year with a difference...now we are geocachers. So an ordinary trip to the beach, or a lake, or the top end, or even just to the shop will become a search and find mission, especially as Swellerfungus is in the second half of the 365 challenge.

Christmas Day! Yippee! But the search must go on. And did we search...there has been recent fires throughout the north of the island so we weren't sure how this one would have survived, especially as the description said "bucket". So we've had our Christmas fare, and a nap and it's time for a swim. Off to Ocean Lake...not a place that changes much over the years...usually...but this time the lake is very different. The entry to the lake has a big bit of land with loads of reeds growing in it and completely blocks any way into the water beyond. Always another way to be found in tho.....hang on, here to find a cache first. Off we trot along the path wondering how hard this might be. Get to GZ and figure it's not going to be easy...the fire has just left standing trees only and all the ground is now black sand from the ash. Nothing to indicate anywhere that it might be so we start poking the ground with sticks hoping to come upon a lid, without much success.

Eventually Swellerfungus catches a glimpse of a burnt rusty looking rectangular tin...bingo. Paper inside turned to ash and very nearby the metal handle of the bucket, with that being the only evidence that ever a bucket there was.

Satisfied we had found it we took it with us to replace in another container with a logbook, once owner has ok'd it. Now for that swim.

Thanks for the hide sid knee.

Ok, so I technically 'found' this one today after lots of searching through burnt bushland. LadySim and I spent a good 20 minutes searching and finally came up with what is seen in the photo attached. While I can actually make out some of the written text on the charred paper, it was impossible to sign the log.
With the owners permission I will replace the cache, however will need to be in a new container and slightly altered coordinates. Current GZ is just too bare and burnt. I will advise once replaced.
I will include the remnants of the original cache if possible to fit it in!
