As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

29-Dec-15
Cache is gone. I'll replace before long and hope it stays

07-Dec-15
maybe we couldn't see it, because it was too easy... Sad but thanks to bring us to this beautiful lookout point.

04-Apr-15
Easy find.

04-Mar-15
Made a quick find here today, very clever with the description! Needed my walking pole to get this out.

08-Feb-15
Found the cache much closer to the plaque than expected... nice quick solve. T4tc

22-Jan-15
Found this today, with some converted muggles, after a lovely overnight stay in Huia (Like Hawaii but cooler!!) Dropped off the travel bug 'Go east', but can't seem to find it in geocache database. This bug is trying to get back to Europe by traveling east.

24-Dec-14
A quick find on a beautiful day. we enjoyed the walk up to the lookout, thanks for the cache.

24-Dec-14
A quick solve and find while visiting the rellies for Christmas. Tftc

21-Dec-14
After spending the night at Kiwanis after the Dra'zhar Fire Festival for the Crucible LARP, we headed up here after tidy up to have breakfast with a view. Sat in the sun watching the rain on the heads, trying to work out how the landing was built, and how the hand-rails used to be. Then set about solving the clever puzzle, and making the find. Thanks for the cache.

06-Dec-14
Thought it was over the edge at first so oneranger sent me down there but no luck, then he read the description and he said it is...from the plaque so went back there and it was easily found.
TFTCCool

06-Dec-14
Eventually worked out GZ then sent Kw12 over the edge of lookout to retrieve the cache only to realise after a few minutes of him searching that I hadnt read the description properly. So back to the start and found easily.

02-Nov-14
Found iiiitttt

12-Oct-14
Interesting cache.

12-Oct-14
Abit of maths and research lead us to it.

06-Oct-14
What a great view! TFTC!

27-Sep-14
Awesome lookout with an easy find if it wouldn't be for the endless stream off viewers. Had to hang around for quite a while before making the quick grab. TFTC

14-Jun-14
Found originally as part of Rebel98 team, now created own account, re-logging as rustynz

Tried to solve this from home with variable success. Arrived at GZ, confirmed our calculations and made the find. Sneaky hide! Took in the views from the nearby lookout, again thanks for the hide.

14-Jun-14
Another test for my somewhat limited maths skills, absolute stunner of a day, easy locate slightly harder to retrieve. Usually drive straight past this lookout but not today. Thanks for sharing this view with me. Thanks to for the recent cache maintenance. Smile

14-Jun-14
Looked at the plaque, confirmed the calculations and made our way to GZ. Enjoyed the views, watched the sun shimmering on the water at Huia. This was another Westie caching adventure, and today we have had a few successes. Thanks for the adventure and bringing us here. Big Grin

28-May-14
Cache returned today dry with a new zip lock bag for the new log. Note a stick helps to retrieve this cache.

28-May-14
Thanks peeps, much appreciated. An example of true geocaching spirit, it's not about the numbers!

27-May-14
Solved the puzzle OK and worked out the direction by looking at the sun and taking it from there. Geo-daughter soon had the cache in hand. Rather damp inside so have taken it home to dry out and will return it tomorrow. TFTC.

19-Jan-14
Loved that this one had a bit of mathematics to it. Stopped here to complete this puzzle cache in the early afternoon, and take some pictures of the lovely views. TFTC, in such a nice area.

21-Nov-13
Out for some afternoon caching around Huia so stopped by to see if I could find this cache. I didn't have it in the GPSr nor had I printed the page off but I had looked at the page before leaving work today. I remembered enough information to make a surprisingly quick find. Great view from up here for sure. One of the best lookouts I ever been too. Cheers for bringing me to this spot!

03-Jun-13
Was exploring the area for today from the nearby lookout when I noticed this one.
Quickly solved the calcs and found the cache.
Great views.
TFTC

10-Mar-13

09-Feb-13

09-Feb-13
9/02/13 15:50 Ha Ha very funny [8)] The maths whizz worked it out and located cache while I was still reading the plaque... Excellent puzzle Wink and awesome views.
Thanks Nedd. Cheers, GenCuster.

05-Feb-13
Great views here and enjoyed the wee hunt for this cache thanks. Beauti spot . Fav point Smile.

23-Sep-12
Headed out to Whatipu for a change of caching scenery today. We were greeted with boy racers coming towards us spinning side to side as we made our way in for this find. Oh my gosh, they missed us thank goodness. A few more sitting in the carpark as well, but we decided to carry on anyway in the hopes we would be out of view for the eventual find. Now we have to admit that whenever we have to do projections we have a great deal of difficulty. Can't seem to get GPS to follow our new instructions it just keeps reverting back to original. So this means that our find here took quite sometime as we mucked up the maths on one part and couldn't work out which direction for the degrees, so it ended up being a "where would I hide it". When we were nearly going to give up Mrs D&J spied the camoed item. Yay. Then we headed to the lookout to soak in the view and very nice it was too. SL. TFTC. Big GrinBig Grin

18-Aug-12
Gathered the required info and headed towards GZ. Quick find, nice to find some of the older local caches TFTC.

Found orginally as part of phasevisitor team, now created own account, re-logging as yorkshirekiwi83.

Headed out for my birthday today, exploring the area between Titirangi and Whatipu.

Encountered a random naked man whilst driving up to this cache!

We calculated the final location of the cache and although the cache was well covered we found it easily and re-covered. The 2 resident chickens followed us every step of the way from the car to the lookout, to the cache and back to the car! So we treated them to a bit of afternoon tea.

TFTC, a nice spot up here."

Checked on passing - cache is still in its proper place.

18-Feb-12
Did the maths and had a hunt. Didn't manage to find it before being disturbed by muggles. Will try again another day.

29-Jan-12
Found the plaque and did the maths, but then couldn't find the cache. Did find lots of rubbish where we thought the cache would be. Will try again next time we are in the area.

05-Jan-12
Easy find once we'd done the calc. Cache was damp, but we didn't have time to dry it out. Thanks for the spot!

29-Jul-11
Amazing views from GZ and a nice little puzzle as well. TFTC

23-Jul-11
I'm rubbish at simple maths. Looked in the wrong place for a while with Geovirgin. Eventually after a re-think, the maths was corrected, brows suitably Doh! ed, and we turned up the tupperware, er... well the geovirgin did! Hurrah!! Visiting NZ from the UK. enjoyed the great views despite the encroaching darkness.

2nd ever cache. Found with 2 BrassNuts.

05-Jun-11
Found with the dark knight rises. Very popular area on a fine day, so watch out for those Muggles!

05-Jun-11

Quick find. Thanks. The ice-cream was a good idea too.

11-Jan-11
Beautiful day and awesome view. Quick find with Hazard Jnr. TFTC

A great spot for our lunch - it seemed a few others had the same idea, so we had to wait a while before GZ was muggle free. TFTC

01-Jan-11
Had a lunch stop while waiting for area to be muggle-free! Great view.

01-Jan-11
Found with jillopy and return2nai - was a lovely lunch spot, very nice! Smile

08-Jul-10
With a little help from my little girl.

05-Jun-10
After part way through doing the maths I thought this is not right but continued anyway. Using the values I came up with there was the cache. Great views over Huia.

Cheers for the cache.

31-Jan-10
Glad this one was replaced thanks! Love this spot TFTC x

23-Jan-10
Got it Big Grin Thanks Nedd for the replacement - went back on the way out to Whatipu for a night wander and figured we'd try again on the way. Things went much more smoothly this time. TFTC

19-Jan-10
I've made 4 visits to try to check on the cache - the first 3 times I arrived to find groups ensconced on the lookout, in no hurry to depart.
Today I was able to access the place on its lonesome, to find the cache had gone - sorry to searchers who missed it.
I had a replacement cache with me and its now waiting for visitors. Please cover it generously when departing.

26-Dec-09
Not sure about this one, did all the math and thought we'd figured it out but no sign - will have to re-think and try again - hope someone finds it soon to give us hope Smile

27-Sep-09
Out with Greenblat.

Now that was funny. lol

28-Mar-09
A nice wee puzzle cache at a spectacular lookout spot. We have photos of the Karamatura Valley taken from this spot 30 years ago - some of the vividly coloured houses over there still have the same colour scheme. Thanks for bringing us back.

Rumo was here before to get the data, but, due to lack of some essential information, was not able to calculate the final. When he did that at home, he did not believe the result.
Today we came back together with our friends from Germany and re-calculated everything - just to get the same "interesting" result. Anyway, it turned out to be true and spot-on. Then we enjoyed the great view before heading on to Whatipu.
TNLNSL, TFTC

This is one of the caches with a great view which we enjoyed very much. The cahe was easy to find with no muggles around despite the fine sunday weather.

01-Feb-09
Find #3 of 5 on today's little arvo cache raid.
A fantastic lookout with the cutest of puzzles!
Unfortunately had no camera with me today so was unable to capture a recent log entry - another muggle has scribed, though a cryptic reference to honey was (thankfully!) not in evidence.

Red Face Doh! Red Face

Made it to hard for myself last time, wrong calcs, today, it was plain sailing, a rather enjoyable spot!

Took a pic of a log that made me laugh in the logbook, a muggle?

Thanks Nedd!!

17-May-08
Muggles stopped me, man they are a pain, will be back!

Cheers, took some pics

19-Apr-08

Our 8th find of the day with Gillibeans. Wow, what a view - and luckily the muggles arrived a few minutes after we'd found it! Now - on to the promised ice cream in Huia.

01-Jan-08
XC and TK enjoying a long ride out far west.. Picking up a few as we go. Wow another breathtaking view.!! After taking some photos for some Indian Muggle tourists we went back to the plaque and worked out offset.. Cute... Nice easy find but required some quick movements between muggles arriving.
TK signed log and replaced while XC kept cavey...

01-Jan-08
On a mission with XenaCommander to work off the new year overimbibing of viniferous libations. We are having a ball zooming about on these fine twisty roads on Splat the SV650. XC is a very fine pilot and TK is on the pillion seat purring as loud as the Neptune tailpipe .. which sets off a few car alarms in the city hehehehehehe.
We met some lovely muggles from India visiting relatives here, so we took photos of their family group with all five of their cameras. A perfect day so the views were magnificent. The cache was an easy find for TK and we enjoyed the shade while attending to log formalities.
In fridge clip and calling cards, Out nil.
Thanks Nedd... brilliant place for a cache one of the best for us today.

27-Oct-07
What a great view, nice and clear today so you could see for miles. TFTC

07-Oct-07
Bit easy to find, lookout is great!

16-Sep-07
Superb views from this place. A couple of carloads of muggles arrived while I was at GZ but it is such a cool spot that they weren't even aware of my presence!
Many thanks

12-Aug-07
17:31 After we got the numbers, the long walk was underway. The cache was located pretty quickly at ground zero. Great views from the lookout, which we had to ourselves. TNLN. Thanks for the cache.

05-Aug-07
Reminds me of my favourite knockknock joke...
Knock knock.
Who's there?
Stat.
Stat who?

15-Jul-07
Great views, had to work around a few muggles, but not too difficult. our 5th find of 6 today. TFTC, TNLNSL

15-Jul-07
No problems with the numberwork which is a first for us with Nedds puzzle caches!
Found the cache swiftly. All in good order. There is a picture drawn by a young non geocacher in the logbook, but it looks harmless. Maybe a new convert!

[#464]
Muggled by three Fisheries Officers, who surprised us with “What uia Lookinat?â€
Managed to convince them, that it was the view. Then proceeded to find, log and re-hide the cache, right under their noses. They were too occupied looking for illegal poachers, and mentioned to us, that they like high vantage points to spy on their quarry. Cheers Nedd.

24-Mar-07
No problems with the find, and no one around.....until we were just signing the log and a muggle on a motorbike sped up and gave us a questioning look. We quickly departed! I had a mate who used to abseil people off this lookout. Great views. TFTC

06-Mar-07

05-Mar-07

When we arrived we had the place to ourselves. We stood and admired the view near - and far. Beautiful vista out to the Manukau Heads, and ant-like figures walking on the mud flats below us.
However, when we set about looking at the maths to be done, the car loads of muggles began to arrive one after the other. Luckily some quick maths and an equally quick search had the cache in hand before they reached us.
Then while they were admiring the view, I slipped it back...
Thanks for the cache!

#494. The maths instruction had me really puzzled and in the end I started with just the bearing and had almost found the cache by deduction when the penny dropped and I solved for distance too. TFTC.

14-Feb-07
Was the 3rd find for the day, after biking up to the Upper Huia Dam.
Worked out the location of the cache without too many problems.
A really nice view of South Head and the Manukau Harbour
Cheers for bring me here, otherwise I wouldn't have come here

11-Feb-07
Quick and easy find after family went away.

23-Jan-07
This would be one of our favourite lookouts on the Manukau Harbour.Been here many times before, never a problem with a return visit. No problem with the find [makes a change]
Thanks again.

21-Jan-07
Whilst brain-box grappled with the cunning mathematics 'er outdoors' took a more pragmatic approach and returned with cache in hand.

12-Jan-07
Ah well, the Westies got to this one first, but I was in Northland at the time.
We had a scheduled friday walk in the area today and as it was raining we finished early so I popped along to check out this cache. I was surprised to find "muggles in the mist". but thay left almost immediately
I did not have the Palm along so was ignorant of the earlier logs and so also sweated over a possible error in the calcs but pressed on. I am starting to know Nedd's devious mind a bit by now and sure enough it all came right.
TNLNSL TFTC
I have not been out here before and will return on a fine day to see a bit more of the view.

28-Dec-06
Thanks for the plug, Nedd. I went to visit Upper Huia Dam - but this time came from Piha Rd, now that the track is open. It makes a great through trip to Huia.
Cache found with no fuss, even with certainty about only one of the calcs (due to a shocking bout of ignorance!).
Cheers - M@
