Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

once we found a way in it was a quick find

An easy walk. The vegetation to all the trigs today was less than I remember it at last visit. In fact for this trig, after a few metres it was a clear walk, as a grass fire had been though the area. TFTC.

Alice trip 2017. Day 19. Today Sol de Lune, Luckyl10n, Fitzy_1965 and I left Darwin and began the journey south. We managed a few caches we had skipped on the way north and a section of trigs.

Thanks
Albida

#GA1556 - 14:30; Day 23 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune, albida33 and fitzy_1965. We were now headed south towards home again after a few days in Darwin. We had called a halt south of Mataranka on the way north as we had run out of time and were now back to collect the trigs we missed on the way north. This was the first trig stop as we made our way towards Daly Waters for the night. Very HappyClan Cerberus TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1421. Found during Day 13 of my epic 21 day visit to Alice Springs for the Red Centre Experience Event and further travels after that.

Flew into Alice Springs and met up with my fellow intrepid team members Sol de Lune, Albida33 and LuckyL10n for the start of an amazing trip throughout the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and eventually back to Canberra. The Red Centre Experience is the main attraction of course, but also on our agenda are a lot of GC Caches, lots of trigs, as well as plenty of GCA Trads, History and Virtual Caches (and maybe the odd beer or two ??!! Smile. Go Clan Cerberus !

Another trig for the trip. We were now heading south again, and we managed to get to this trig. Photo taken. Then it was back in the car and off to the next one !

Another trig added to the dragonZone list. I really enjoy finding trigs and also the new CORS that are popping up everywhere !

TFTC !!

Catching up with a few more trigs with LuckyL10n, fitzy_1965 and albida as we headed back down the track and towards Threeways.

Trigs were more of the rocks/pole style, and the we soon had our photo's....

05-Oct-15
A short walk to GZ and all we could see was a circle of rocks and several poles. Took pic of site with Mr T as proof of our visit.

30-Sep-12
On our run out of the Territory we grabbed a few caches. Easy walk to this one.
