Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I do not know who changed the D/T for this cache but I have changed them back to D2/T2 as you can drive to within 250m of GZ and it is not all that difficult to find once there.

Jinta29 and I ventured out today to grab some caches.
We had a number of GC and GCA caches on the radar and this was one.
After a DNF on the nearby cache, we made our way up here and quickly spotted the marker.

Thanks for placing this cache. We found it fine and replaced it as found.

*Overall Experience: 4*

Found this one today after driving as close as we could and then taking a short walk through the bush.

Unfortunately only one device worked and only with one image so I have attached it to my log.

I saw a blazed tree nearby I wonder if that was the original marker.

Didn't like to take my car the last part of the track so hoofed it in. Why do they always put trig points on top of a hill. Rolling Eyes
Well at least it was easy coming back. Smile

Managed to get the Geo-Camry to within 190 metres of the cache and bush-bashed in from there after applying some DEET. Grabbed a pic.

My poor sedan had to stop on unsealed road 700m from GZ
Some kangaroos around. CoolClan Phoenix

Visited! This came up on the GPS and fooled me into thinking it was a geocache. I followed the road to the 'parking area' then walked the remaining 180 odd mtrs asking myself all the way 'why would anyone want to put a cache in here' and finally anwering the question when I noticed the survey marker. Still it was a nice little 4wd excursion off the bitumen road.

Was caching in the area and decided to attempt this TP. The intial part of the road was very passable. About 600 metres from the TP the road becomes more of a track, and at about 300 metres, my confidence with the new car disappear. Wander up the hill from here to the TP. Definitely not what I was expecting to see

Decided to look for this on my way home. Drove to the end of the marked dirt Reides Road, lucky for me just freshly graded, then walked the final km to the Trig. This track would be 4wd accessible, if scratchy, and it took me to about 200m short of GZ. I followed faint kangaroo tracks the rest of the way, with white ribbons also being a guide.
Some distant but very smoggy coastal views glimpsed on the way. The best part for me was that it was uphill on the way, so a nice downhill walk back to the car.
This is my FTPF (first Trig Point find) - and also a FTF! Very Happy
