Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Access is via the road into the Waterhouse Conservation Area and taking the 2nd turn left at S40 51.933 E147 38.404 and parking near the boom gate 10 min walk from the Trig.

I said to myself “It’s time to head south!” and I ended up in Tasmania. I then at some point said “it’s time to head east” and now I’m at this Trig.. and it’s a beauty! Im thoroughly enjoying this Tasmanian adventure. The next time I visit I suspect I’ll be in the geo-van! Thanks for the cache Smile

08-Oct-14
The walk to and from was quite easy.

Sainted the cache at 1550hrs as the last find of the day.

We decided not to tackle this one after reading the sign on the gate. we've been bailed up a couple of times by the police and security guards but talked our way out of it. Even though it seemed that there was no one about but us we decided the find wasn't worth potentially being prosecuted. Chicken maybe!

16-Nov-13
Parked just before the boom gate. When we got to the gate we almost didn't go for this one because of the notice that is there on the gate.
We did however end up walking to the trig, glad we did as the views were lovely in an area that doesn't have many higher vantage points. TFTC

31-Aug-13
ST357 added to trig point name

will upload photo when we get back home

14-Jul-12
Found on day 6 of the Muggle and Cacher mid-winter tour of the Tasmanian Coastline. First stop for the day and the muggle went out to Croppies Beach whilst I walked up the hill to grab this trig.
I was expecting the tower to be the trig but to my surprise, there was a trig beacon there hiding in amongst the trees along the fenceline.

10-Oct-11
Found on our North East caravan and caching weekend, a nice gentle uphill stroll, rewarded with great views of surrounding area.

03-Sep-10
There are very few spots of high ground in the area, so it was great to get to this site to get excellent views of the coast, the lagoons and the low coastal terrain. Well worth the visit and easily accessible.

11-Aug-10
Sorry about the late log, but found this one with Cached and Robtas during one of our recent Tassie trip - TFTC
