Mount Norman 1893 Trig
Significant Trigonometrical Surveying of SE Queensland took place between 1883-1893. This old Trig Station was used with this surveying. A detailed map was released, dated 31 December 1893
Original installation: Large cairn, post and beacon.
Current status: Large cairn in good condition, partial post standing. Some remains of post on ground.
NOTE: This Trig is NOT on the summit of Mount Norman. It’s about 300m WSW. The Trig that was on the Mount Norman summit was installed in 1938. Nothing remains of the summit trig.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

Access: Park at the Mount Norman day use area, S 028° 52.652' E 151° 58.104'. Make your way up Mount Norman Track following signs and painted marks on rock areas. You will see Mount Norman in the distance. At about S 028° 51.771' E 151° 57.694' head West towards GZ. From here to GZ is the most difficult section. A rope may be advantageous for some. I rock-hopped and scrambled to get to this trig but there may be easier routes up. Take your time to find the best way up and down. There are multiple options. I recommend NOT attempting this if the area is wet. Return same route. Allow two hours.

Logs
A major trigonometrical survey of South East Queensland occurred between 1883-1893. This was one of the stations and it linked primarily to Mount Magnus and Jibbinbar Mountain. Yes, they’re both on my to-visit list
This is an exceptional find. I’ve visited dozens of unpublished old trig site locations in Queensland and found nothing or close to nothing. The condition of the cairn here is nearly perfect. A remnant of the original post is still in the cairn with most of the remaining post being on the ground. Considering it’s age and the countless storms that it’s been subjected to, this trig is in excellent condition.
With no current destination I sat with this trig in silence for well over an hour. It was like sitting next to old friend where silence isn’t uncomfortable. It was just me and the trig hanging out on a mountain, just being, just because. Writing this log the next night I’m thinking I’ll never forget meeting this piece of history. A splendid find!
Thanks for the cache
I’m hoping to find another old trig like this a few hundred kms north. A beehive-cairn built for a trig station back in 1880..
