Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

A longer route to work today meant I could visit this Trig Point. An ol’ geo-buddy introduced me to GCA caching and particularly Trig Point and similar finds. I was thrilled because for years before this I had loved finding these things world wide.

Today’s journey was a lot easier than yesterday’s Trig Point find which was a nine hour hike and over a km higher. I drove to this GZ and could even buy a great coffee haha. While not as rewarding as yesterday it’s still a nice find in a nice location.

Cheers

I visited the Mount Gravatt trig with my daughter Moogiechew. We have already found another trig today but had to walk up a steeper hill. This trig is located at a lookout accessible by driving up a windy road. So this time we were able to walk a short distance and save our legs. The view over Brisbane is fantastic from the lookout. It is very popular today with many people visiting and enjoy the day out. Thanks for the trig.

#GA3467 - 09:10; Arrived in Brisbane this morning with Sol de lune for day 1 of a long planned mission to cache South East Queensland. After collecting the hire geomobile, we headed up to Mount Gravatt for our first stop and to grab a couple of snaps of this trig. It was nice to look out and across to the city. I expect things have changed incredibly in the more than 50 years since I lived not too far from here. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

We were up on the Mount this morning for the EarthCaches. I wasn't sure if this was actually a trig, so when in doubt, photo and check later! Nice one, one of our better trig photos too.....

We were in Brisbane for a family gathering and since were early decided to head up to take in the view.

Launching my App I realised there was a trig point around so followed the arrow in an attempt to locate it. I was quite surprised at where we actually ended up, thinking that surely it was located somewhere else - one of the communications towers perhaps. I'd also assumed that the plinth had previously held one of those location disks - of the sort that tells you if you look in direction X you will see this location in so many miles or if you look in direction y you'll see that location.

Who knows perhaps it had been actually supported one of those directional disks in a previous life.

Since I only had my phone the photos I am submitting for this cache only contain our two travelling companions - Samboo and Max. The GPS was still at home in the drawer.

Thanks for the trig.

One of my local mountains so it was a quick drive up here to grab this Trig. I have walked up and down this mountain finding caches..there are a lot of great ones here. This trig point is great because it is well looked after and has it's own pedestal table and not some rusty bits of metal or sawn off legs or inconspicuous rotten post. Gre4at view as well. I was watching the storm coming in from the west and thought I better hurry up and get home. TFTC

In the past month we'd of been up here heaps as we've been looking for caches by Eatmorchikin and scouting out an EarthCache. Today we were having a farewell dinner nearby with some friends and decided to make one last trip up here for the view before we left Australia. The view up here is stunning yet often overlooked. Most people take photos at the trig point but have no idea what it is...hence the weird looks we got today as we examined it with intent. TFTTP GCA

On a trip up the highway to visit a friend nearby thought we would grab this trig in the hopes of grabbing a nearby one. This one, easy... The next not soo easy, too many muggles & considering its location we left that for another day... Maybe night.. Nice view. Thanks again GCA.

In the area to do the nearby Cave cache so had to grab this trig point. I have not been up here for some years, and in that time a cafe has popped up. Very good it was too, worth a look between finds. Took a pic of the trig point with my Wombat caching companion, no Oregon GPSr in the shot since it was doing camera duty.

I met up with friends near the cafe to do the neaby cache, Cave. I pulled out my GPS to find the Trig Point, only to dicover that I had been leaning against it for the previous five minutes while we had been talking about the views. Rolling Eyes

I always enjoy the view from up here.
I have been here for a few caches now.

There is a new cafe under construction at present (although construction seems to have stopped).

I took a picture of the marker with a view of the CBD in the distance.

Accompanied with Varuna for half day before she is returning to Perth tonight. It was heavy rain but nothing stop us.
It was my first Trig Point find. Thanks heaps.

Easy find and great view.

25-Oct-09
Thefourbees ventured up Mt Gravatt this morning without the co-ordinates and found a Permanent Survey mark on top of pedestal. No tripod and a bronze disc. It is about 3m fromteh listed co-ordinates so figure it must be the same thing as a Trig Point.

There used to be something else on top of the pedestal judging by the bronze bolts.
