Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Passing through with geovan in tow, we stopped and snapped the required pic which has been added to the gallery.

Day three of our LGA chase out through Bega, Cooma, Tumut, Wagga and Dubbo. The weather deteriorated in Wagga, so we decided the warm car was a nice place to be, so we extended the LGA hunt out as far as Griffith, bagging another five councils, and still making out dinner reservation! We grabbed several trigs as we went too. The countryside out here is really interesting, it was worth the drive....

27-Mar-24

Found on our trip around the Big Island

We had been away rock climbing at Mt Arapiles near Horsham. Unfortunately my climbing partner had an injury that lead us to not be able to finish our week of climbing and we were looking for another way to make the trip home longer and more interesting so we decided to get a string of trigs and caches on the way. Nice and easy to spot this one from the roadside quickly pulling over and getting a snap and on our way we went

04-Jun-22
On the way over to Leeton with Mumsie and Pater to visit my Cuz for a few days, we stopped by here for a look. That gave me the perfect opportunity to grab the 'find', which I did at 14:35. Very Happy

Thanks Geocaching Australia.

10-Nov-20
On the way to Hay and stopped to check out the fabulous huge art.

A long weekend brings with it a weekend of camping and caching. fitzy_1965 and I decided to do a loop from Goulburn out to Naranderra, Griffith, Condoblin and back home so I could pick up the last few counties out that way.

Today was heading from Naranderra to Griffith via Leeton. First stop was this gorgeous water tank! It is interesting that you can see when it would have been painted based on the gallery photos.

I have a free day… let’s go caching. I decided on finding the last section of the ‘RGGT Trail’ and the loose caches between the final of the trail and Narrandera. It feels so good to have finally finished the ‘RGGT Trail’ and off my To-Do-List. Big Grin I started this trail on the 31 October 2016 and finished it on 26 November 2018 which is a 757 day journey. This includes 5 attempts and lots of fun and laughs.
Day #1 (31/10/16): Caches #1 to #19
Day #2 (05/04/18): DNF’s from #1 to #19
Day #3 (17/04/18): Caches #20 to #32
Day #4 (25/07/18): Caches #33 to #61
Day #5 (26/11/18): Caches #62 to #81 (A.K.A. Final)
It was such a nice drive around the county side with a clear sky, a lot of wildlife running/flying around and getting lost in Matong Forest. I did eventually find my way after nearly an hour of driving and walking around the area. Before heading home, I had lunch at Subway in Narrandera. On some of the smaller logbooks I signed as 26/11 JM and TB visit on all found caches today. I would like to thank Riverina Geocaching for the great trail and to all other CO’s of the other caches I found and for the fun I had while finding them. Smile

My last find of the day and a nice quick one. TFTTP and now time to head home. Very Happy

My husband and I are on our way home to Melbourne, after a holiday in the Gold Coast and Cairns. Tonight we are staying in Narrandera so before dinner I asked my husband to stop here and take a photo of me and this trig. I enjoy the NSW drive-bys instead of having to hike up a mountain in Victoria.

21-Aug-17
Drove up to location – as with most water towers you need to take a distance shot - thanks

28-May-17
Stopped off for a coffee and noticed this Trig. Quick detour and job done

10-Nov-16
#GA1070 - 11:05; Day 1 of the Melbourne Mega Mission with Sol de lune. We were taking the scenic route collecting primarily GCA caches on the way there and took a short detour into Narranderra for me to grab this trig. Managed to get the required snaps before we hit the road again headed to Balranald, then south towards Swan Hill. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Another one that was very visible from a distance but disappeared as we got closer. In our photo the white pole holding the marker has become obscured but you can still see the brown top. Loved the old brick water toweer near this newer one.
Thanks.

22-May-16
Discovered this watertank and trig after a scout camp in the MIA National Park. We observed the trig point, admired the views, reminisced about my school days at the local infants school in the late 1960's before driving home. Thanks for the trig point series and the opportunity to admire the view.

Photographic evidence of visit attached. Very Happy

21-Mar-16
A short diversion on our way between Adelaide and Sydney. We took a shortcut through a vacant block, and were sure the local must have been wondering why a car with SA plates was driving like a local.

11-Apr-15
A quick drive by with the geovan in tow. TFTT

Found on our overnight stay in Narrandera. Tank top trigs are easy!

GCA 597 - 6356. Found this Trig during an early morning run around the area. Love Trigs on Watertanks - nice and easy to find !

TFTC !!

Logging trig points on the tops of water towers and grain silos is certainly much less demanding that logging the vast majority of trig points in Tasmania where a significant climb up a hill or mountian is required before a find can be claimed. Whilst we feel a little uncertain about claiming these finds, we accept that this method is the accepted convention north of Bass Strait for trig points on elevated structures. TFTC

26-Jun-11
So close to home, but never got a around to logging this one. On my way back from Wagga, so I detoured up the hill.

10-Mar-11
Early morning and on a drive through Narrandera ...... I could almost imagine the conversation when I got home.

"Oh hi If.
How was your visit to Narrandera ?"
"Very nice thanks.
I saw a couple of lovely watertanks and a communications tower up on the hill behind the wheat silos.
Here, I've got a picture of them."
End of conversation... no doubt Doh

But I know that you lot wanna see the picture Very Happy

TFTC and the fish.

19-Sep-10
Found with McPhan on our SA Odyssey.

12-Apr-10
Driving around town today and thought I would grab this one. GPSr took me the scenic route. Noticed the tower along side with the big search light. Can not approach this one as you can not climb the structure. Best effort from the ground trying to take photo.

07-Jan-10
An interesting tank Trig with the spotlight on the tank next door - is that a relic of the war days?

23-Dec-09
Up close it was hard to see the disc, but when I went back into town it could be seen. Thanks. Albida.
