Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Fabulous day to be out walking. Exhausted already but magnificent views. Pretty sad Trig though

Came up here with a whole bunch of cachers, so decided I better log this!

15-Nov-20
Hiked to Mt Gingera today with a group of Canberra cachers to collect 'A long way to the top' GC.

After finding that and having lunch, we stopped by this trig before heading back down.

22-Feb-17
Having hiked to the top of Mt Gingera many times and having my photo taken at the top next to the trig I thought it may be time to log this as a find.

Ribbit Cabin fever after too many weekends working so today with the perfect weather we took the opportunity to finally visit Mt Gingera. A lovely walk. Stunning views from the top. Photo taken before a relaxing lunch in the sun. TFTT Ribbit

Went for a great walk up to Mt Gingera. Haven't been here for 15 years, but it all comes flooding back...

Nice day too. Thanks

Found as part of a group of 20 cachers that climbed up today - spectacular views from the trig location - lots of oohs and aahs were to be heard. I have featured in several photos and will try to remember to log another photo against this log when I get back to the ACT.

Just wandering by and noticed a trig so thought I'd take a snap of it.
Nah actually I was here for the GC event cache so why not kill a couple of birds with the one stone.

Grabbed a selfie while up here with the event mob. Absolutely fantastic view and worth the climb.

09-Nov-14
Up this way again for the GC event and stopped by with the other 19 who undertook the walk and grabbed my photo with the stick.

Another trig crossed off........

Found as part of today's event (A Long Way to the Top). It was definitely a long way to the top - not for a sausage roll, but for some spectacular views and a couple of caches. After a huge trek up the hill in the heat, we took a large rest at the top of the hill, to recover from the hard work he had just done. Then we went over to the trig, for what was an amazing experience. The views are absolutely stunning, that photos cannot describe. Spent a lot of time here taking photos and enjoying the beauty of nature. Special thanks to mcktcj for taking the photo, as well as noikmeister for organising the event! Clan Cerberus

Up here with the Canberra bush walking club. They were bagging the trig for their club so I decided why not grab it as well. A nice easy one this one. After a very very easy 5km walk to Pryors. We had a 1 km walk up to the top of this hill. 360 views well worth the visit.

17-Nov-13
Was chatting with BatGirl on the way to my second annual summiting of Mt Bimberi when we both realised we had forgotten to log this cache.

17-Nov-13
A nice a cool but sunny day out with BatGirl and Norkie for a warm up walk. We even found some snow nearby.
Found after searching for the MBO trad.
thanks

Like others before me I visited this trig but didn't think to take a photo of it. But to prove I was there I am attaching some photos of the views from the top. We camped the night on the mountain and saw a spectacular sunset with the Gang gangs and bogong moths. There were also so many flowers out. It was like a wonderful garden.

GCA 494 - 4928. Another Trig found previously and catching up with the logging.

Walked up Mount Gingera on 04 Jan 2010 with SDL - a really enjoyable day - pity there were no views to see due to the weather !!

TFTC !!

Last visited while doing the "Long Way to the Top" GC cache. Been up here a few times over the years with the Canberra Bushwalking Club too, always a nice walk, especially in summer with the wildflowers out.

I Agree with Squirrels comments below (+ a few extra comments of my own)
When I first started caching, I often didn't carry a camera, (Digital cameras did not exist)and visited many trigs whilst caching. I also visited many trigs BEFORE geocaching even existed, when I was riding my Mountain bike/s in the 1990's, so all recent finds.
I actually visited this trig point on 1/12/2001 laying the cache "A long way to the top" with a friend. I visited it again 2004 after the fires to check on my cache, and again in 22/9/2007 doing a cache check with the SAME friend. Picture is at top, trig pole is just out of pic to the right.

From now on, I will definitely be carrying a camera at every trig point I visit. I really support the introduction of TrigPoint "caches" because there are usually great views from such highpoints and it is particularly applicable in certain parks.

When I first started caching, I often didn't carry a camera, and visited many trigs whilst caching.

However, whether the thought police like it or not, I intend to claim every trig that I visited since starting caching at the beginning of 2007. As evidence, I will either post the photo if I have one, or reference the cache that I visited nearby, or name another cacher who can vouch for me being there.

Actually visited "A long way to the top" on 1 March 2008. Absolutely fantastic
