Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Staying a couple of nights in Wagga Wagga, on our journey south.
We are out and about today exploring the area.
Snapped the required pic which has been added to the gallery.

13-Apr-22
In the area as I grab a couple of caches and the nearby Trig Point. Had a couple of Adventure Labs on my radar today but then detoured via some ‘roads less travelled’, letting my GPS be my guide.
Thanks for the cache and for bringing me here. I have seen many wonderful sights and taken many photos around this fantastic area. Does it get any better than travelling this great land of ours?? Coffee, caches, waymarks and photographs. Dancing

Thanks for the Trig Point Clapping

22-May-21

A good day to visit this, as being Sunday, the carpark below was empty. I found a gap in the fence and went upwards. A wet day and it was a wet walk, especially for my feet. Not a hard climb and I was soon there. Cold, chilly walk though. TFTC.

After two very long weeks at work and other commitments on the to-do-list, I decided to get away and do some caching. I decided to clean up as much as I could of north Wagga today on the long weekend. Thanks to all CO’s for the fun and for the caches I found today.

Nice quick find just before finding the nearby 'Groundspeak cache'. Tftc

Parked in a nearby carpark and scrambled up the hill. Nice and quiet on a Sunday morning. Glad to nab this trig and the nearby GC. Makes it all the more worthwhile.

13-Jul-15
A short sharp walk up the hill and I was taking in the views from up here. Another that hasn't been logged for ages.

Took a while to find the closest park to the trig, got fairly close in a car park in the university. Hopped a couple of fences and got to the trig. Some terrific views.

11-Jul-11
Another trig found with McPhan and Sol de Lune during a weekend away in Wagga. For the photo of a cold and motley bunch, see Sol's log.

09-Jul-11
A group run through the area with Winglen and McPhan and after grabbing the nearby GC cache, we gathered at the trig for a group photo. This time I have the photo......

348. Another trig that I had been to before trigs were trigs. Or at least before they were a cache type. Came up here and helped winglen, Sol de lune and Zsazsa7 find High Chair (NOT) and then we had a group shot that will be included in either Sol or winglen's log.

TFTC and the Sam.

2nd time in my life I've been up that hill. The first time was in 2004 when I was a first year student at CSU, although at that stage I had never heard of geocaching. Anyway during the lunch break while in class I grabbed this trig and the nearby high chair.

04-Apr-10
Took me forever to work out where to park. Eventually found a rough dirt section near damaged fence line & away I went. Took the photo & when I got back met two cachers who were looking for a GC cache. It didn't appear on my radar for some reason but declined their offer to share the co-ords & go back up there. There's always next time.
