Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Parked at end of Casey Close cul-de-sac and followed track up steep path to top.

Finding the access point for this one defeated us once before but after driving round and round we found it today. A short sharp hike up the hill to find that kids in the neighbourhood are building a fort around the trig framework

07-Jan-16
Ha! There were surveyors actually using the trig point while visiting it today. So the posted photo was a rush as I did not want to be in their way or invade their privacy with a posted photo of them.

06-Mar-14
It was an easy walk to GZ but we got a surprise when we arrived. Someone has been using the trig point beacon as a "summer residence", with various items draped over the frame to provide some protection. The required photo has been adde to the Gallery. TFTC.

Dropped by to grab this trig as the first find for the day.

A short walk to the top and all was good.

26-Feb-11
Found around 1.30 while the better half of Team Ladava was shopping. In my opinion mine was a much better use of the available time.
Strolled to the top around the back of the houses and there it was. Not much of a view these day with the surrounding trees so tall but took the required snap and headed back to the car with some short delays as the blackberries are just ripening. I have the evidence on my fingers.
Our thanks to GCA for the cache (Especially c@w for pulling the series together)
Cheers

After finding two gnomes hiding on the side of the freeway this morning, this was find number 3 of 33 today. A nice walk up the hill and the pics taken and we were on our way again.

Found today in the early afternoon. Good walk up the hill. Had lunch at Black Hill lookout before going to find this one.

Bit of a ride out of the lower parts of Ballarat to get this cache.
Worked up a sweat and then it froze on the way down. Delightful.

08-Sep-10
Looks like I forgot to log this one, found the pic on my camera. Managed to park at the end of the road and walk round and up to this one.

02-Jan-10
Had a nice time finding this one and was a great way to start the new year. The number of old mines around the place is still a little disconcerting.

I didn't hold much faith in finding this one intact as it;s very close to housing nowadays, but as we approached the hill there it was.
A few broken bottles and various flotsam and jetsam around the base, but the TP is there, nice and black.
A interesting little area behind the houses, but alas no view and the trees are quite tall and block the view. I suppose this makes the TP useless as originally intended, but it's there and a nice easy find.
