Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

While exploring Potato Point with my daughter (driving time for Ls!) we stopped at the lookout. Hmm, so many trees, but a good view of the trig Smile TFTT

Found by accident, went to look at the view at Potato Point lookout and saw it...

21-May-22
Popped into Potato point for a look around and a couple of caches

22-Feb-22
Staying in the nearby N.P. we only had 2 GC caches nearby to log for the GC 22-2-22 Souvineer. One was at Potato Point, and this trig was only a few streets away. took the photo, then wandered down the grassy track to look for birds, but instead spotted some seals playing nearby. TFTT

Well worth the detour from the highway. Great spot for a trig.

29-Dec-18
With a couple of weeks holiday over the Christmas period I had headed south after spending Christmas Day with the ex-Laws and son. I wanted to get Bega, and stopped in here to grab the Trig/Waymark. I was able to avail myself of a pedestrian to get a decent selfie.

We visited Potato Point today and while there, we located the trig point on the headland. Two photos have been added to the Gallery: Mrs y'stassie standing next to the survey marker; and a photo of the identification plate on the marker. Thanks for the cache.

GCA 1918. Found during a South Coast caching meander this weekend with specimenX [a GCA Muggle Smile ]

Not too many opportunities for GCA caches where we went this weekend, but still managed a nice selection of Trigs and Virtuals. This was another lovely Trig and very accessible.

TFTC !!

An easy find, I stopped at the little car park along Long Point Road to get my bearings and there it was, easy. Great spot with the Trig in perfect condition, I spotted two seals swimming around close to the shore line. TFTC.

29-Sep-17
Been a while since I was down here for the nearby cache, but no problems in spotting the trig. Another cliff top trig with great views.

Potato Point, what a strange name for a place - bet there's an interesting story behind that one.
Mr Beetle sat on the seat for this trig photo and it was a bit hard to get him moving again. Reckoned he was whale watching but I think he was just enjoying the view and the sun.
Thanks.

27-Oct-16
Today we explored Moruya and surrounds using geocaching as a guide.

Another simple but fun find for the SamWalkers (with dead batteries in the GPS).

18-Apr-13
Found on our 2013 Narooma trip. After getting the nearby GC cache, we quickly drove over to the lookout with the trig. No one here except us and a nice sea eagle. Great view of the coast. TFTC GCA!

Forgot to log earlier. Found returning home from Xmas at my brothers place at Pambula Beach. Nice view.

19-Apr-11
Last year on hols we found the nearby GC cache which was muggled by fire soon afterwards. Today we deviated down this excellent road after a DNF at South Coast Cheeses. They were closed. This was a simple drive by but we took our shots and admired the view back to our holiday house.
Note the official name for this trig is 'Marka'. Quite odd. Will upload photos when home again.

31-Oct-10
Visiting a friend in Bodalla after an event in Narooma over the weekend, decided to make a quick trip out for a photo and to see if there were any whales playing - too rough to spot anything, but as always a great view. Have been here before when there was a cache here.

30-Oct-10
Shell and I originally had a GC cache here but it was muggled. I had a photo of me at the trig but it was from before this cache was placed so I came back in to get another photo.

07-May-10

Am positive I found a cache right next to the trig some years ago. That said I was in the vicinity locating another GC cache so took the opportunity.

In the spirit of previously visited spots I was here on 6/8/07. Albida
