Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

For me, perfect weather conditions up here today! That’s probably why I was the only one here haha. Sunny and ‘nice’ bore me. I like coastal areas that have rough seas and inclement weather… but that’s just me. Such a shame only the concrete pillar remains for this one. I’m seeing this more and more nowadays. It still a good Trig though! Thanks for the cache Smile

The boys and I shot out after lunch for a quick caching trip to Mullumbimby and up to Burringbar. This was a nice walk along a boardwalk, great views too. The old trig pin and tripod supports were noted just west of the concrete pedestal.

I was looking for a few caches today close to Byron. I had a quick lunch in Brunswick Heads and headed towards Ocean Shores to the Brunswick Devine Lookout. I know lookouts are meant to be high up but I didn't expect the very steep road to the top. The wooden board walk and avenue of trees is just beautiful. I took photos of the trig and admired the view of the ocean and Byron lighthouse in the distance. Very nice place to visit. Thanks for the trig.

Met a young bloke enjoying his lunch with a view. Explained to him the significance of these trigs and how they are used. The old pin is there and needs to be published. Awesome views from here.

Great views at a an easy trig pick up. We brought up a couple of pies for lunch and enjoyed the views at the nearby picnic tables. The magpies were so tame and were eating out of our hands. Great spot and a favourite trig Smile

#GA2714 - 08:55; Day five of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune. After a night in Ballina, the plan for today was to cache northward through Ballina to Byron Bay and then on to Kingscliff before turning south for home through Bangalow, Evans Head, New Italy, Yamba, Maclean and on to Kempsey for another overnight stay. After an early start, we hadn't gone far up the road when we saw evidence of a heavy shower not too long before we got there, so we seem to have dodged a bullet and got packed up with fairly dry gear. Following a successful run through to Cape Byron, we continued our journey along some interesting and at times rather rough roads before getting to the highway and on to Brunswick Heads, where a short detour saw us in the Lions Park and over the boardwalk to this trig. Luckily we missed the showers either side of our visit here. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Day 5 of the trip up the NSW coast with LuckyL10n after the Morisset event. Today was from Ballina to Kingscliff and back to Kempsey. A few more caches grabbed, with most being trigs...

No problems spotting this one and the views were fantastic. Certainly well worth the detour off the main highway to grab a photo.

Thanks for yet another trig...

What a fantastic view from this lookout. This is really worth the drive to the top. Photo attached is the panoramic view from the trig

1408 GAFF1. I don't think I have in this area before, and it was a pleasant walk out through the natural archway of trees. Some others thought so, and were enjoying the afternoon. Easy to find the trig, but also found a 'Dedicated Bench', and hand print in the concrete under it.
Then back near the car is a BBQ, and an 'Orientation Plate'. Quite a good list of finds.
So, a concrete pedestal, with a nameplate. Great

Nice spot. Haven't been up here for a while. Walking track is a nice stroll.

28-Mar-13
Beautiful views up and down the coast and a seat to take it all in.

The things you miss when you don't look around! I had been up to this lookout before, but for some strange reason, did not take the walk to the trig! But I did today, but unfortunately only found out too late that there was a cache up there as well. Oh well, maybe next time.

When I arrived there was a muggle using the trig as a tripod support for his binoculars. Waited a while, but he showed no signs of moving so sheepishly asked if I could take a photo of the trig as I collected them Embarassed Anyway he agreed and got a shot. Great views from here, fantastic clear sunny day. Also found the nearby GC trig.

Visited this one on a weekend trip to Grafton in September. Great location with excellent views.

This is a special Trig Point as is one of the 79 geodetic stations that make up the Australian National Network. See here for more info: http://www.ga.gov.au/earth-monitoring/geodesy/geodetic-datums/GDA/ANN.html

Found at 1840 today 9/9 for the day. The mozzies were really out in force. I was there just before it became too dark for a piccie though. Great view but a little hazy and dull today.
