Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.
Using the web-based "Survey Marks Enquiry Service (SMES)", the formal and alternative names for this trig-station have being acquired.
Alternate names: STUDLEY PARK

Our travels have bought us to Melbourne and we found this trig whilst in the area.

This was a neat, albeit short, walk from the parking area, which made for a good quick find.
A good day no doubt. Thanks for another trig.
The view of the city is dramatic - it would have been a great spot to watch the fireworks last night.

(Couldn't include the GPS in the photo as I use my phone for that. So you will just have to settle for my mug shot instead, lol!)
Having first discovered this trig point while doing Alansee's first cache a long time ago, I've been meaning to pop back again some time and check out the views again. I was in the area this morning, so was able to make the stop (along with my camera). The views weren't as good as I'd remembered (probably because they were so unexpected the first time I was here) but I managed a few nice shots of the city anyway. It would be nice if they could trim a few trees in some of these picturesque locations - nothing serious, just enough to get a good, unobstructed view of the relevant attractions.

Thanks TeamGeoPlesk
This ticks off the Benchmark/Trip and now I am off to collect a Movable which I noted is around the corner from where I am staying.
I took a picture but it was basically black. Stupid phone. I'll add it anyway.
Last visit on a much-needed bit of alone-time, caching around Yarra Bend.
Having just found the nearby cache, I discovered that I was at this trig. Taking the necessary photo had that added degree of difficulty, given that it was dark, but I managed.
Now, all that remained was to cross the long bridge below, get to the car and enjoy the drive home.
(The cake and candles that awaited me were a marvelous birthday surprise)
Thanks TeamGeoPlesk.
Great views, and a very pleasant location.
There was also supposed to be a munzee here but I couldn't find it and suspect that its gone.
Thanks for setting this one up TeamGeoPlesk.
With a chill wind blowing and rain threatening it was a quick look at the wonderful views, a snap and off to find the nearby traditional.
I think the views have been a little compromised over the recent years by the flourishing flora.
Back to the car just as the shower set in and an executive decision was made that a pie and pasty was appropriate to warm the body on the way home.
Our thanks to GCA for the very enjoyable TP series and especially c@w for pulling it all together.
Cheers

Afterwards I turned on the gpsr and saw that there was a cache and a trig point within walking distance.
Trudged up the footpath and saw that there was a road heading towards the cache.
However the road turned left and the arrow was pointing right.
The fence really threw us. We decided to walk around, but noticed that the fence ended, so we just walked in.
Once at the Trig Point, the afternoon views were stunning.
Thanks TeamGeoPlesk and GCA!

I took the required photo's which I also sent to the kids, since they just got mobile phones for Christmas!
Thanks TeamGeoPlex & Geocaching Australia.
Thanks for bringing me up here again. It was fun trying to travel through the cycling crowd.
I've previously found the cache near this TP and so I knew where to park and how to access the location. It was an easy stroll to GZ and then take the obligatory picture (with GPS) and a view across the city.
You should get a nice collection of pictures of the CBD against this cache.
Thanks to TeamGeoPlesk for finding and creating this cache listing at GCA. I will be finding as many TPs as I can for the views that you get from the top.
