Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Access is best off the Tasman Highway at S41 15.681 E147 25.608 along a good gravel road all the way to the summit. Take the next right hand turn at S41 14.084 E147 23.859

Out exploring tracks this morning and thought I'd have a go at finding the old fire tower. Tried finding this several years ago with no luck, but With the supplied coordinates it was a quick find. Shane the entire structure isn't still there.
Thanks for the virtual cache to bring us u to this amazing location
Cheers

When we were reviewing caches in the north-East area, we noticed that this trig point was an isolated mark on our "To Be Found" map. On closer investigation we noticed that, due to the good work of Sirius Tas in providing detailed directions, this trig point was virtually a drive by. So on our way into the North-East today we turned off the Tasman Highway at the top of The Sidling and headed along some reasonable gravel roads. The only issue was the height a grasses/reeds growing in the middle of the road in places but we assumed that they would clean or brush underneath the car. After a short time we got to GZ taking only one wrong turn about 300m from GZ. The actual GZ was located in the middle of the base of the now derelict fire tower. Although it was quite overcast with a reasonable amount of low cloud, the views towards Scottsdale were magnificent. We have been encouraged to return when there is a clear blue sky. The required photo has been added to the gallery. We can strongly recommend visiting the location to other geocachers.
