Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Did the 7km or so loop this afternoon with AlbyDangles picking up a few unfounds. He'd already found this one, so for something a little different I gave him my phone to take a pic from up the hill, and I wanted down to GZ to visit and pose.
Thanks for the trig. Magic views.

Visited this spot whilst enjoying a nice 7.5 circular walk around Arm End peninsula up to Gellibrand Point and back. A beautiful afternoon with stunning views and a nice breeze to keep us cool. TFTC!

The GeoGSP and I visited Arm End today and finally got around to visiting this spot. Great walk with great views. Photos attached.

08-Sep-18
Went for a ride today with a mate.
Walked up some tracks in the area and came out to the point.
for the photo, the view of the background cannot be missed.

Called for this one as I was doing a bit of a clean up in the area and wanted to get some more GCA caches. I spotted this trig and it lower order markers from a distance and soon made my way to the light and the nearby marker disk. It was a great spot to watch all the boats go by on a nice summers day.

Stainless Steel Rat and I had planned a handful of caches on the peninsular today. We were a bit miffed at just finding a new uninteresting light post. We were however intrigued at the obvious signs of past infrastructure. We had some lunch here and watched a range of watercraft cruise past on a still and calm afternoon then back to the car to find another rig.

Just before departing from home for a walk at Arm End, Peter checked the Australian site and noticed this trig in the area. It was quickly added to the schedule. On looking at some of the photos in the logs is apparent that the light construction has been radically changed since 2009. It now has a solar panel to provide power.

This was supposed to be first on my list today, but a decision to clean out along Rifle Range Road and Gellibrand Drive was made, and it turned out to be the better option.
As I was walking towards GZ, a vehicle approached and stopped, so we had a chat about the golf course that is being proposed to be built here. They took off for the gate, and I continued to the light. A short time later they came back and more chatting and a lift was offered, so I took it (even though it was only 400m) and we chatted some more about the burn off that happened recently and this and that....
Finally arrived at the light, took the requisite photos and I walked all the way back.
I just wish I had taken some photos the last time I was here and then I could have arm chaired it!

When I was walking towards the light I assumed that it was the tower that I was heading for, yet there was still about 100m to go when I got there. I continued down to the light and took a number of photos before continuing my walk.

Nice day for a walk. Found with Tassie Trekkers, great view. TFTC

07-Oct-12
Down South for the Guru event and took the opportunity to find some caches beforehand. It was a great day for a walk and this was one of 3 we found on the point today. Found with whitewebbs TFTC

10-Dec-11
Found on our South Arm adventure. This is also where we decided to leave our bikes and walk the rest of the way.

From the other pictures in the gallery, it seems that the light now stands on a new steel pedestal and is solar powered but it still stands on the same concrete base. Guess that the sea winds can be very corrosive on metal in this location and that conventional power supplies suffer also.

06-Mar-11
A lovely spot on a nice day it would be nasty if it was windy. I can see why it's called white rock.

13-Aug-10
Went for a long walk on a cold and clear winters day. Bureau said it is 5 degrees but didn't count a wind chill factor of minus 10. Anyway walked the walk and took the photo. Nice background of the mountain with some cloud cover. Tftc although not for the long walk!!!

28-Jul-10
easy little walk out to the light Very Happy (Trig) Question
little envious of the guy with the fishing rod out there but by the look of it he hadnt caught any fish so he wasnt worth taking out for his gear, bedsides he had two dogs that looked like they would rip you to shreds if you tried Shocked
lovely peaceful place to just stand and take in the views

10-Jul-10
Nice walk, kids complained a little, but they got used to it after a while, as they knew this was going to be the first for many today...

14-Jun-10
Maddie and I did a bit of circuit here today so that we could visit White Rock Light. What's with all the mice though? Lovely walk and lovely views. A good one to complement the other caches down this way. Thanks Geocaching Australia!

Woo! Had planned to come down to do, 'In respectful memory...' today and look what was sitting there when I checked to make sure nothing had gone offline since I last looked!
I thought the 'Trig' was going to be the station that's nearby, so took a photo of that and was about to head off when I noticed that GZ was still another 100m away (and very close to the water), so I headed off into the super long grass and the actual 'Trig' popped up.
Ripper, but windy day - was able to angle it to get the light, water and Wellingon into the shot.
Thanks for the trig Sirius, made my trip all the better.
