Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.
You will need to purchase parking at the gate; cars: $5.00, motorcycles: $2.00 and buses: $10.00.
This trig point is not the traditional type, it is located inside the Mount Dandenong Sky High gift shop and bistro as a plaque.
You will only be able to access this trig point if the Sky High is open, which according to the website is 7 days a week, including public holidays.
Gates open Monday to Friday 9am-10pm, Weekends 8am-10pm.

Logs
After a few tweeks to our route south we were able to find caches in the three NSW area. By the time the Alexandra Event had finished we only needed to find a cache in three areas - Nillumbik, Whittlesea and The Yarra Ranges. Today was the day to try and find the three caches we needed.
The Mount Dandenong Trigonometric Station was our first port of call. After paying our $6 entry fee we made our way to the restaurant where we spotted this unique trig marker. We had a chat to the manager behind the counter and he was happy for us to take the requisite photo. There were no other customers at the time so this may have helped. Photos taken we headed outside to collect the data for the nearby Earth cache and to explore the 360 degree views avàilable from the observation deck.
It is well worth a visit to The Dandenong Tower for the views, the walks, the unique art works but most of all for the unique trig point. We now have a find in the Yarra Ranges and only have two local government areas to visit.
I was quite surprised to find that this TP is inside the building. It was really crowded in here today, but we got the required photo.
Note: The prices have gone up a dollar from the listing on the cache page.
Thanks for bring me here and trig
Thanks PrincessDiala.
I visited here at night and had dinner in the restaurant.
I felt uncomfortable photographing the column so grabbed a snap of the column upstairs with my phone camera as I couldn't find my camera at the time.
Great Views Thanks
Found whilst having a feed @ the bistro.
very unusal Type of Trig Marker.
When I add trigs I copy & paste text from an original publication (Sept 09) then add a paragraph to describe my thoughts on the location.
Thanks for adding such an outstanding trig.
I don't get this - sort of.
I went to Mount Dandenong yesterday and saw this plaque, and then reading stuff, maybe its now not a trig point.... Well not a traditional one anyways.
They've done all the other stuff more central to the CBD, and I was racking my brain what we could take them to see/do.
Puffing Billy! I've never been on it before, and the bf hasn't either, seemed perfect. There was also this other place I found through geocaching with stacks of birds that come down to feed, and if we had some time, visit the Mount Dandenong Sky High because I've heard the views are awesome there.
So, imagine my surprise when I saw this plaque, I must get a photo!
[Well, I'm not too good at converting DMS into decimal degrees (I end up in the middle of some trees), so I've just got some co-ordinates from Google Earth, if anyone can do it better, please feel free to change the co-ordinates.]
