Description

A trig point is missing its point. The carin and post are intact though.

This trig is accessed by the public green way on Denley Drive. For a map of the greenways Click here Please ensure you consult this map for access to the cache so as to not inadvertently end up on private property.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Made the right choice coming from Hogan Drive side, as there is a corridor leading up to the trig, and the nearby cache. Great views and a beautiful old trig. And then there is the eccentric part, which I don't really understand, but I'll ask a surveyor next time I see one.

Was up here today collecting the GC cache that is very close to this trig!
Out on a property in the area doing some work on my car and realised it was too close to not come take a look.
Awesome spot!

I sloshed along the wet Greenway track, slipping occasionally, as I made my way up to the trig. Lots of Early Nancys were blooming and there were some clumps of snow drops in the neighbouring field. A good view from up here, but that’s trigs for you Big Grin.

#GA925 - 15:25; Out on an afternoon caching run to Bywong to collect the last few caches in the 'Greenway' series and this trig was a nice bonus, particularly when it was only 20 metres or so from one of the caches I had on the 'to do' list. My visit will also fix up its current nearly 15 months unloves status and add another to the Cerberus clan. Nice view to Black Mountain Tower to the south west and the Lake George windfarm to the north east as well as a couple of rather large haciendas close by. Found today after dropping my daughter off nearby for a party. A trig nearby - beauty! I am trying to get to 100 trigs by the end of the year. I made the climb - well worth it as the views were great! TFTC Smile

Took a leisurely stroll up the hill and found this lovely trig. Pity about the metal blades which we found nearby. Took photo and enjoyed the amazing views from here. TFTT Smile

Rats - got to the top of the hill & realised there was a trig & I hadn't brought my camera! Fortunately Agent Basil was able to capture the requisite image on his iPhone. Great views from up here - Black Mountain Tower is just visible in the background (very faint) if you know where to look.

31-Dec-10

10-Dec-10

Found whilst out caching in Womboin! Fantastic location - fantastic views! Found some metal bits that may have been part of the trig nearby, but they certainly looked odd... I wonder what this looked like when it was in its prime?

Mr_roo and I discovered this while placing the nearby cache up here and we not sure if it was a trig or not. We found the metal on the ground but it looked more like the remnants of a sign. Once home I searched the net for listings of trigs with no luck.

If everyone is happy that this is/was a trig then I am too. The views from here are surprisingly superb.
