Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and photograph it.

Official Name: Kooragang
Official Code: TS10814U

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

#GA2660 - 11:50; Day three of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune. After a day hitting the geoart trail put out for the muster with Sdl and albida33 yesterday, today was all about finding GCA caches and perhaps picking up a dragonZone or two in the process. The plan for the day was to start in Morisset (naturally enough), work our way around Lake Macquarie and in to Newcastle, then on to Maitland and Abermain before heading back to camp. There had been a change of plans when there was a heavy overnight fog which left our tarps quite wet, so we decided to hit the trail, then return to camp to collect our swags once things had dried out later in the day, before heading for points north. We had finished collecting trigs around the lake and were now in the suburbs. It took a bit of a drive to get to this trig, but it proved to be a drive by once we reached GZ as the trig was right beside the road. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Day three of an Easter trip with LuckyL10n to the 2018 Morisset Mega. Headed up via the northern beach suburbs of Sydney to grab a few trigs and dragonZones along the way. From there it was a trip around the lake to find a good assortment of trigs. A great day out while heading further north.

No problems with this one and the trig was soon snapped....from the side of the road. Very Happy

Another trig and another dragonZone crossed off. Thanks for the fun....

We finally stopped for this one, were on the way to pick up the pooch from the kennel after a weekend of Blue Mountains caching (and trigging).... didn't have the GPS though! The enormous road shoulder here makes it easy to stop on the main road, you could almost touch it out the passenger window.

I think it would be impossible to calculate the number of times I have driven, or gone past this trig (right back to the 60s or 70s I guess when the bridge was built. I didn't realise there is a HUGE cycle path you cold park in so parked in the back street and then bush whacked over a 'creek' where some clearing had been done.
Surprised by how soft the side of the ramp is outside of the guard rail.
No name plate, but otherwise in good condition.

As we headed towards Newcastle today we took a slight detour so that we could pull up next to the Koorang Trig. A photo taken at the time has been added to the Gallery. Thanks for the cache.

Thought this was going to be a dicey one to get but parked in the bike lane which was plenty wide enough to stop and grab the required photo with no disruption to traffic. Thanks.
