Barrenjoey TS7220
Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Barrenjoey.
Serial number is: TS7220.
Last inspected on: November 15, 1990.
Elevation is: 104 meters.
This one takes a bit of finding through some heavy bush, but it is quite close to the track. Edit (March 2014) - since the fire last summer the trig is easily accessed and visible from the track.
Logs
Wow it's been a while between visits here. Trig has a new plate on top and the views are great but it's a little bush bash from the path. Top spot!

Great weather for a walk up to Barrenjoey Headland. We'd stopped at the lighthouse to get the trig and the virtual, found the trad GC, but I through I saw something else on the map, as difficult as it was to see on my phone screen, seeming to indicate two more trigs. I couldn't get any better info from the GCA website (fat fingers, teeny icons) so I aimed in the general direction. Luckily I saw a white pole from the path and we found a way to approach that was manageable. Upon arrival we found the top section of the trig laying on the ground beside the mounting structure. Based on the pictures in the logs it had been replaced after bushfires, but this one was dead again. We propped it up for a photo, Weekend at Bernies like, but couldn't do much more than that. So it's still here, but in pieces.

I had taken photos of the lighthouse a few years ago, but couldn't find them, so eventually came back while looking a month-specific Geodash and a few Waymarks to photograph. I took the shorter, and steeper walk up, and photographed the Lighthouse @ 2058, Thursday, 2 February, 2017. Then came over through the bush to re-find this trig @ 2121.

Many, many years since I have been to Palm Beach so today I set off early and made the drive. Took Smugglers track to the top and the access back down to the beach. Well worth the effort with great views over to Lion Island and West Head. Picked up the light house trig as well and a near by cache. TFTT

I came up with the dual intention of grabbing these trigs as well as the earthcache, having found the physical caches on a previous trip.
A great day to take pictures, though blowing hard.
The cache is still easy to see and approach as the regrowth is still light and low.
A pity the vanes are broken off, as the lack of trees would mean that this trig would be visible from a distance for a change.

Today we walked up onto Barrenjoey Head for the first time in my life having seen this feature from so many directions over the years. Finally came up for a couple of trigs and enjoyed some of Sydney's best views. This trig couldn't be easier than it is at present after the bushfire which means you can see the trig from the track.
Of course this means the poor old mast has been melted and fallen off - not sure where the vanes went. You can see a lot of bolts and brackets in the rock which indicated a previous trig by the look of it. I did find a locating pin which may qualify the old trig as a trig for listing.

I revisited Barrenjoey this morning. The bushfires have wreaked havoc. It's a bleak, black desolate landscape up there. Thankfully the lighthouse wasn't damaged. The same can't be said for the nearby trig, with the mast melted and split like a banana peel and the vanes lying discarded 5 metres away (see attached photos).
The main track to the lighthouse reopened a week ago and provides easy access to the trig. I also took a photograph of the hexagonal foundation next to the modern-day trig which I assume is the remains of one of Stewart's Lights.

The main trail to Barrenjoey Lighthouse is closed until "late 2013" and I couldn't see an easy way past the construction fences. Plus the signs warn of fines for anyone who attempts to get to the closed trail.
I'll try again next year when the trail reopens.

What a great trig position!
rogerw3 and I had to bush bash a bit to reach it, off the old trail, but we found it quickly enough and enjoyed the views and the sense of achievement in recognising a forgotten historical landmark.
Later we learned that this spot was the site of one of the two so-called 'Stewart Towers' that pre-dated the Barrenjoey Lighthouse.
'Four Thumbs Up' for views and the adventure!
Be aware that this path and area appear to be under construction and may be cordoned off.

Trig number 3 for today's hunt with pjmpjm. This one is well hidden by very thick bush and cannot be seen from the track and it is very close. At the present time there is work being carried out at the western end of the track and access may be restricted at certain times. We had no problem getting to the Trig, apart from the heavy bush bash that is.
