Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Today we wanted to tick off a couple of trigs that have been on our to do list.

Had checked out the access on a previous visit to the lakes and decided to come back with the geobike.

Arrived at dusk and took required pic.

22-Mar-16
Had driven to the Bradys area to find three caches and then out to Lake Echo for a fourth.
That done, I decided it was time to attack this Trig as it had been on my bucket list for a long time.
Arrived at the gate expecting to walk the distance - not to be - the gate was opened!!
Puts the Subi in Lo 4wd and headed to the top; thinking must get up and back out before they shut the gate.
Arrived at GZ and Sainted the cache at 1515hrs.
Some quick pics and back to the Vic Valley road pronto
Had a great time, great views and was pumped and chuffed that this Trig had been conquered
I would have walked were the gate not open but am glad I didn't have to - it would have been long rather than hard; but manageable.
TFTC and cheers

I was a lovely spring day and I felt like a walk so I decieded to have a go at Bradys fire tower and Bradys Sugarloaf.

I was lucky and found the gate at the bottom of the hill open so started to drive up the road it wasn't long before I came across a car blocking the road. Had a chat to the man who was cutting fire wood and made arrangement about re-locking the gate before continuing up the road to the top where I took in the views of the snow on the distant mountains and behind some rocks then took some photos before driving back to the first tower where I started the walk out to Bradys Sugarloaf.
I'm glad I didn't have to walk up here.

Last time I came up here, the road was open and I was driving one of those great, go anywhere, do anything, work vehicles. Mind you, there were a couple of sections where it was a tad steep for the 2WD panel van.
Today I attempted to find the Bradys Sugarloaf trig point TP3483. I had forgotten that it is a fair trek up to the ridge and then along the ridge for about 1.8km. Suffice to say that I didn't make it due to time constraints and the type of clothes/footwear I was wearing. The trip up to the ridge took me 1.25 hours to make, and once at the top, had to put on another layer of clothing as the wind was quite strong.
The trip was not wasted as I did find the marker at the fire tower. I even found one of the bolts concreted into a rock.
The views from the fire tower are excellent - 360 degrees, and would be fantastic on a sunny day. I have added some photos to the gallery.
For those that wish to keep their mind occupied whilst doing the walk - there are 29 power poles on the trip. There is a new gate being built at pole 26. There are the usual Jack Jumpers and Inch Men or Inch Ants on the trek to the top. I also spotted an echidna just off the track and later another at the top.
The trip back down to the gate took me 35 minutes. After yesterdays effort of 3 mountains and a light house, totaling around 16km of walking, I think I've had enough for this week. *FTF*
