Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ, and to photograph it.

Official Name: Congewai
Official Code: TS1569

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Today is freedom day for novo! Decided to drive up to Congewai today to celebrate with some caches. Shortly after beginning the trek up to the TS from the car, I found a trail which turned out to be one of many zig-zagging around the hill. The bush is fairly thick in parts due to the emerging undergrowth after the fires. This will likely be tough to get up to in a few years down the track but if you look for one of the trails you'll get there.

The trig is in poor condish with the plastic mast likely melting from the fire and the vanes lying nearby. The nameplate is still in tact tho - I note that it has a spelling error "CONGEWOI" lol).

I didn't mark a WP but coming back down I followed a different trail which emerged at the road around 100m to the south east. Hopefully that helps. I was up on the ridge today for a couple of hours and saw no other souls. Great views along the road which basically follows the ridge of the Corrabare range. TFTC.

as team 737 said, excellent 2wd conditions, I got my workmate to flat rock and back easily. then after running into the 737s for the second time today, I followed the trail up to the trig

We decided on a Corrabare expedition today, to find some trig points, and check our caches. The roads have obviously been graded between our visits, easy 2WD stuff today all the way to Flat Rock. We parked on the roadside, and walked up the hill the last 80m, following some trampled brush, then a fairly well used track right past the trig, which seems to have melted at some stage, the vanes on the ground nearby.

At 160 km (ATCF) from home I wasn't going to rush out and try for a First to Find, so when I had a couple of days off and was heading in that general area I packed the maps and went for it.
From Millfield TP I headed back south on North Road (if that makes sense), and then joined Trig Road. Found a spot to park the car, and bush bashed up to the trig. Someone had 'kindly' caught the trig vanes around the plastic pole. Took the photos of the intact name plate and then headed on to other trigs - that it seems I will have to make sure get published! Laughing Will bump the Terrain to 3.
