Description

Wollongong CORS TS10968R

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Wollongong CORS.

Serial number is: TS10968R.

Last Inspected on: November 8, 1996.

Elevation: 75.795 metres.

Receiver Type: Trimble NETR5

CORS station, collecting geodetic data from GNSS (Continually Operating Reference Stations). This trig used to be the usual steel post with mast and vanes but now only the steel post remains as the mount for the CORS station.

CORSnet-NSW is a precise positioning service that gives users access to fast and accurate positioning and guidance solutions across NSW. In recent years, precise positioning and guidance systems have emerged as useful tools across a variety of applications such as:

• Surveying

• Agriculture

• Construction

• Emergency services

• Mining

• Scientific research

• Asset management

CORSnet-NSW uses the latest Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology to provide an accurate spatial reference network for NSW and support the growing number of precise positioning and guidance applications throughout the State.

How does it work?

The service is delivered by a network of permanent GNSS receivers – known as Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) – that are strategically located across NSW. The CORSnet-NSW network continuously observes and corrects satellite navigation signals in order to achieve international standard, high accuracy positioning data for NSW. The data is streamed to users via a wireless internet connection.

In town for the Gong Mega and today a flash mob at the lighthouse, so I spent the day geocaching in Wollongong. For this one I parked in McDonald's car-park and walked back along the road. I had to get back quite a way before the CORS revealed itself.TFTC.

Stopped for some breakfast at the golden arches and took this shot while getting a nearby cache. Not the best shot ever taken...

Today I made the area of northern Wollongong unsafe with my geocaching activities. 23 finds, six GCA ones, two puzzles. A good time was had by all! Errr me.

Not only a CORS transmitter, also a hang glider in the picture!

Rode from the lighthouses to this trig. It was a bit of a hairy ride through the streets but after getting the right side of the building to see the trig and grabbing a photo we found a better way back down a quiet street and on to the bike track.
Saw the dragons training as we rode past the stadium.
Thanks.

Visiting my eldest this weekend. She stopped for breakfast Stop I snapped this trig quickly. Smile

Found while geo-adventuring on my way home from my between-cache-distraction (also known as Work).

As a Hydrographic Surveyor, I am always interested in where our CORS Network stations are located, especially over the last few years where I instructed this topic both theoretically and practically.

Found Very Happy Made a trip to the Gong and after getting some personal business out of the way we went on a Trig hunt. I had planned to cache, but the Trig blocked my vision for the way and I was focused on them instead. This was a little difficult to spot especially as the sun was in thy eyes. A great afternoon had by all.

A hard one to spot from our angle and I think LuckyL10n managed a better shot then mine, but we know it's there.....

#GA652 - 14:30; Sol de lune and I had discussed a wild trig hunt in the Illawarra quite a while ago and today was the day we tried to bring home the bacon. We had collected a few on the way down the mountain and in to Kiama, before heading north for a DNF in Shellharbour then on to the main section of the Tour de Illawarra. Despite the prominence of the building, building works in the area meant a retreat well up the street to try to get an angle on this one! TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Got the photo.

Saw something up there but only had my small camera with b/a zoom.

22-Sep-12
Had to take the picture from a fair distance, only to be able to see. My gps looses clearness if I zoom in, so thats it!

A bit hard to get a clear shot as already stated. I wonder if all trigs will go this way in the end - a GPS receiver replacing the old metal trigs.

12-Sep-12
Last Trig for the day, this one is quite difficult to see, right on top of the Council building, try down Corrimal Street just past Stewart Street, from there you can see the top of the original square steel post with the GPS mounted on top of it.
I guess if you could get to the top of the WIN Stadium you might get a better view!
