Description

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

I found the nearby multi-cache quite some tome ago and at that time didn't realize this trig was here. Today I corrected that irregularity.

Hello Tassie Trekkers thank you for the cache.

Thanks for the trig Tassie Trekkers. Was in the area with AlbyDangles caching hereabouts so grabbed a pic. Despite spending heaps of time in the surrounding area, I'd never been up here! Have now though.
Cheers, EPs.

17-Jan-18
Found this one after looking at another, and finding a cache with no writing implement.
Drove down Quarry Rd to the end then looked harder at the GPSr - it showed a better approach on the other side of the hill, so I backtracked and found the other side of the hill.
A quick walk from the gate and I found the trig!

#GA888 - 11:05; Back in Tassie on family business, so the opportunity to collect a few more of the local caches was too good to pass up. I had collected a few before I made my way to this one, the first trig of the mission. I'm not sure about the name here as it lies on a hill at the end of Alfred Street as opposed to Albert Street? Anyway, I parked the geomobile and took the short stroll to GZ, where I discovered the trig among the trees. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Woo Hoo...an actual trig.....found after a short walk.

14-Oct-15
Travelling around Australia and spending a few months in Tasmania.

Finally feeling well enough to cache, Mr Felix declared today was to be a full day out and about. Big Grin

So having been in this area for 5 weeks we decided today was the day to visit Cataract Gorge and surrounds. Funny day overcast and cool 1 minute sunny and warm the next so jumper on jumper off was the big game of the day! [:o)]

Mr Felix grabbed this one after locating some info for a nearby multi cache.

27-Jun-15
Filling in some time before an appointment. Tried this one in the dark a few days ago but got spooked by creatures in the dark. Much easier in the daylight

04-Jun-15
I just happened to be passing by on other caching business!

03-Oct-14
Up here a month ago doing sort of related stuff. How I missed this one is anyone's guess. I always seem to make a meal out of things requiring three visits to the one spot. Now sorted - I think. Although I was under impression trig points were supposed to be visible from afar to take sightings. This is a "has been" & is now silently rusting away unloved by all but cachers.

774. Seeing as we walked up the hill I may as well grab any caches at the top. While FFP took happy snaps I ducked away to find this trig.

TFTT and the can.

Office name and ID obtained from DPIW ListMap database and added to trig point name.

Think this is the easiest trig Ive ever found.

29-Jul-13
Visited this trig whilst in Launceston today (which I couldn't resist climbing on). Whilst heading towards the trig I noticed a place that looked very much like a cache hide. I looked inside, thinking I could place a cache in there, but there was already a container inside! I have no idea which cache it belongs to, but would be interested to find out...

Hi Trekkers
Few finds on this one doesn't surprise me when you look at the GCA number for the cache:

TP 666 4 = Trekkers Pitchfork 666(The Devils Number) 4 anyone we can get!!
Would that be right?

Logged the cache at 1150hrs this morning; trying to avoid the "sinful" terrain there abouts.

Got myself in the photo with the GPS rather cleverly don't you think?

Scincerely yours in evil

It is interesting where these old, and now apparently disused, trig points turn up. It is still listed on The Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment's Survey Control Marks Database (SurCoM)as "ST472 Gees Lookout" although there is no identification on the actual trig point. As well as finding the tripod we also found the stainless steel pin in a services pit. The photos added to the Gallery show one of us at the survey marker and the survey pin in the pit. Thanks Tassie Trekkers for listing this urban trig point.

27-Mar-13
found as my back yard backes up to this trig point

24-Mar-13
Found while looking for a nearby cache an easy access trig.
