A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
While there is a track out to the trig it is up to you whether you take a 2wd car there. Should be nor problem for a 4wd (Cookie got his Metro there!)
Logs
We were here for the nearby T5 letterbox, and found the road in pretty good shape, so continued down to find the trig. We found a large cairn, and the vanes in a fire, they look to have been used as a hotplate!
Today I got a "round tuit" out of me pocket and set off along the trails
A nice drive in windy conditions and lots of branches littering the trail.
No large trees had fallen though
At the end of the trail was a fully fledged, PROPER, trig point to find, guarding a spectacular view
Very windy here though !!
TFTTP !!
Sure enough there is a dirt road off Coopernook Forest Way, which is steep in a couple of spots, and quite a few 'berms' to take care on, but generally good driving.
As the sun had just set by the time I got there the camera wasn't quite in the mode to take a photo, and the first couple wanted to take it without a flash.
Am sure there would be some nice views at a better time of day.
When I got home I received the notification that a cache of mine that was only 3 km away at the trig needed attention - blast.
Will check out some time whether this is in State Forest or NPWS jurisdiction.
