Description

Gearys Gap Trig NSW19960

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Gearys Gap.

Serial number is: NSW19960.

Trig is a mast and vanes.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

This was a weekend of events and epic cache days. It started with a Friday afternoon back road trip to Goulburn to visit 11 Australian Animals series caches and the two events. Saturday started with a fun event celebrating a special day of the year followed by caches targeting DT grid caches. Sunday was another trip to Goulburn where I finally managed to visit the Ridge Road caches above Lake George. In Goulburn along with the two events I did the Graveyard Adventure Labs and the caches associated with that. My weekend finished on Monday with another walk along the Molonglo to get a Where-i-go and an unexpected challenge cache.

On the way to Goulburn I stopped to clamber up to this low level trig. It was quite dramatic here just above the road.

TNLN
Thanks.

Stopped on our way south. Missed this one so many times, but we planned it well this time. Kids took the shot with the SLR and we were on our way.

We have been meaning to attempt to photograph this trig for some time and today did a quick stop and photograph. Interesting place for a trig; low down the escarpment.

Found 4:40pm on a run back to the Central Coast after visiting Canberra. I've been passing this over the last 3 years nearly every weekend and over a year ago LuckyL10n dragged me to this trig but at the time I wasn't really active in GA so didn't capture it then. So finally decided to stop and get this find done. Geodaughter took the snap. Definitely awkward spot with all the traffic and one needs to be careful here they are travelling very fast and sometimes heaps of traffic.

I finally grabbed this trig! I tried to get it from the top of the ridge about a month ago when I was picking up some other caches. Then realised that it was one to get from the road. So I pulled over today and soon made the find. TFTC

#GA226 - 16:40; I'm not sure why this trig wasn't loading to my GPSr, but I spotted it while driving back from Sydney last week, so decided I would log it today while I was out on a mini-mission with MrDamage to collect the 'upper' Lake George caches and a few in Gunning. Stopped besuide the highway and took a short walk back to get the happy snap. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very Happy

Yep, very weird location....how would it work down there?

Spotted it from the top and headed down just a little grabbed the photo. So close to the road...will look out for it next time I drive past.

So it is a trig... I'm not going crazy. Have seen it a couple of times from the highway but whenever I've had the camera I couldn't find it.

Out on a cache maintenance run, trig chasing and the odd obscurely located cache or two. Approached this one from ABOVE, well, I was already on the Ridge road, so whats a short walk! Certainly an unusual location.

Told off by a farmer.

Chooo ooo *FTF* just before the rain was due!
I was out looking for trigs, and the one I tried to get (Curtis trig) - I could not get too! But then, on the way home, completely unexpectedly, I found this one! Cool that will do... It is in a weird location though! Mostly I expect to find these things on top of hills!
