Description

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Additional Infortmation

In the area caching so couldn't resist tackling this one as well.
Had read that you could drive to this one but the track to it definitely wasn't suitable for our motorhome.
As I'd walked to the top of Hawk Island it was Mr Beetle's turn here. But he didn't walk he rode his bike up!!
Thanks.

Spent the weekend chilling and camping at Tomahawk. Snuck up the 4x4 track to the trig point to log the cache. Been a few years since I explored these old tracks, we used to ride round here on trail bikes when we were kids.

I had told the crew I wanted to go to Tomahawk. I'm not sure if I've ever actually been here or not but I've been close many times. So after heading off from Scottsdale this morning stainless steel rat, Mrs SSR 1TOOLMAN, (Mr and Mrs) TazScout the egg and I were indeed headed to Tomahawk grabbing a few finds along the way. We found most of the caches here and then looked for a way to the trig. We found a path that went roughly in the right direction and then a connecting one that took us straight to it. We took the required photo and returned to the car to the waiting partners. A nice beach town!

While on a trip to the northeast we got together with myself Mrs SSR GooseandEgg 1Toolman and Tazscout to grab a few cache and this was one of them we found today.

Having just found the GC cache not far from here we walked round to this one and soon had pictures of ourselves/GPS's done for one a nice easy TP.

#GA309 - 17:00; Out for an afternoon drive with the geofamily to Musselroe Bay via Scottsdale, Derby, Gladstone and return via Tomahawk and Waterhouse. Found a park not too far from GZ and located the track in to the trig. Spotted the target from a couple of hundred metres away, unlike a couple of the recent Tassie trig finds which were at ground level. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very Happy

Quick stop before moving onto the next cache.

We parked behind the Fire Station and then walked the short distance to this beacon. The unusual aspect of this trig point is that it doesn't have a brass marker at ground level below the centre of the beacon but has a piece of star picket embedded in concrete with no identification. The photo added to the Gallery shows two images: the beacon and the ground marker (with the star picket).
