A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig poin. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Found this one a little while ago with Sophoutloud after a wet, wild and windy day out exploring Mt Hay, a nice little walk out to the end of the point (although very overgrown after fires and lots of rain) great views from the end through the mist as it rose out of the valley. Hopefully I will get back here soon to do the abseil off the end of the point

MrT did a bike ride out along Narrowneck and decided to do some trigs and caches along the way. He had done Castle Cliff in July 2019 but didn't realise this one was there till he got home m. Today he found this one. TFTT

I had been meaning to get to this one and today was the day. After a walk from Katoomba station I finally got to GZ and the old Stainless Pin was obvious, the original mast and vanes are lying a few meter down the side where they were dumped when the cairn was unpiled.
Amazing views, sadly a bit hazy today.

Mrs. pjmpjm and I had an amazing walk to this old (double) trig this afternoon, and took lots of pictures!

The location pin is firmly embedded in the sandstone, not far from the bright and shiny 'new' trig, and will no doubt stay here securely for a long,
long time. And the old vanes are still lying down below on the ground, easily visible. It's been about two years since I last visited here, in the summer heat, and not much has changed.

The magnificent views are the same too, especially on a bright and clear winter day. They were memorable from the trig but even better 50 metres further on, at Castle Head itself. 270 plus degree views, 'Ruined Castle' just below, Korowal (Mr. Solitary) quite close, and much of the Warrangamba reservoir quite visible. Wow!

Thanks very much to rogerw3 for 'rediscovering' the old trig. It was well worth the trek here from off the Narrow Neck fire trail. 8 degree temperatures and brisk winds eventually chased us away, but we won't soon forget this wonderful spot.

On a misty day I came to the mountains for a training walk in preparation for the Wild Endurance 2014 fundraiser for the Wilderness Society - walked up from Dunphy's Camp via Medlow Gap and Narrow Neck then back down (total walk 44km over 11 hours).

Found the new trig and, 2 days later, the old trig is published. Serendipitous timing.
