Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and photograph it.

Official Code: TS10599

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.

This concrete pedestal trig, about 300 m off Bucketts Way, with intact nameplate, pole and vanes, is just inside the fence, but photos can be easily taken with it. (The State Survey Marker - 24765 has been logged!)

Easily visible from the road. Trigs or private property are always in good condition.

On our way to camp at an event at Riverwood Downs. Being in an RV meant we weren't finding any caches that weren't close. This was one we could get as it was easily seen from the road. Took our pic from The Bucketts Way as the closer road was a private driveway.

Being aware of my car running hot, I made sure to park only over gravel when I pulled over to snap this one from the road. I don't like the idea of entering private property without permission so stayed at the gate. Smile

The second of our trig finds for the day, on our way north. We stopped by the roadside & looked at the trig in the distance.

A roadside find as we continued on our weekend away.

Found (this time) @ 1555. An intact pedestal with name plate, post and vanes. (I had earlier found and photographed this one @ 0645, 30/8/14 while on my way to a FTF North of Dungog then south for the 7 Souvenirs Event - but had that camera fall out of my pocket on the Sunday.
May 'have to' come back to investigate the possibility of a Ned Kelly themed cache near here Dancing
