Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Hi Alby
Today I decided to target two caches; TP7243 and TP7244
This was the second of the two that was targeted - had I done this cache first, the second would not have been done; it was that hard
Followed Alby's instructions to the letter but couldn't find the log he was describing; so decided to go it "solo"
There were no tracks to the top and I couldn't even find a wallaby track to follow
May I quote the master "It was a struggle to get to this trig." - I concur totally and it probably should NOT be done alone as I did
From where you go bush off the 4 wheel drive track; it was roughly 366 metres to the top as the crow flies - probably the hardest 366 metres I've done
The last 50 or so metres were even tougher - I turned into a MOUNTAIN GOAT; hanging on by toes at one stage of the ascent
Came down on a different route but eventually got back to 4 wheel drive track after bashing my way up and down
I Sainted the cache at 1453 hours and enjoyed the magnificent views from the top
Sorry I wasn't there at 1300 hours
After taking my pics I got out as quickly as I could to traverse the terrain before I "GOT LOST!"
You will know what I mean when you do the cache
The whole trip took me over 173.8 kms by car and I walked 21.97 kms to cover the caches by shank's pony using 29921 steps burning 2605 calories
Loved walking the tracks except for the spiders webs I walked through Sometimes the tracks were overgrown - saw no animals nor snakes - plenty of birds singing; three black cockies flew over on the way in.
The flora was magnificent
TFTC and cheers

It was a struggle to get to this trig.
We had actually started our way down when we realized what the time was so returned to get a photo at one o'clock.
