Description

Bathurst TAFE TS?

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Unknown, Bathurst TAFE is used for convenience.

Serial number is: TS number not allocated.

Last inspected on: No Data.

Elevation is: 715 meters.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

This one is interesting because it clearly looks like a trigpoint with mast and vanes, and is located on the top of Bathurst TAFE, however it does not appear on the six maps database. I wonder if they teach surveying at the TAFE and use it for classes?

Got very distracted with outdoornut22 today while on our way back from a camping trip. So nice to have time to explore Bathurst. Getting closer to the famous race track now..... woop another simple find the school wasn’t open today but not to worry as we could see this one from the road.

Sophoutloud and I spent a few days camping with friends at Hill End and then because of the very wet weather that came in on Sunday night they decided to bail and head home early so we had the day to fill by ourselves so what better way to do that but explore a new area and bag some fresh Trig points around Hill End and Bathurst. I have to say all the Trigs we found today were in Amazing condition, I am not sure wether they get repaired here more often or are just vandalised less out here. Either way it was great to see. The TAFE campus was closed today so we had to take the photo from the roadside.

Hill End and Mudgee weekend April 2018. I set out late on Thursday after a small battery issue. I only stopped once before a night at Bummeroo ford. Friday took me to Orange via many spread out caches between Oberon and Bathurst. I spent the night at Macquarie woods. Saturday started foggy and then warmed up. I was heading to Hill end, and did make it, but I had to give up on the Bridal track due to a rockfall. Late in the evening I did find a spot along the Turon river and the very bumpy northern section of the Bridle trail. Sunday had me finishing the TRLT trail from Mudgee to Gulgong and a few missed ones in tyhe middle of nowhere. The last day was a simple drive home from Sofala. A great weekend !

I cannot believe how blind I have been other times I have cruised around this loop !

Thanks
Albida

Started at Bathurst bright and early for a bit of a trip down south, have a few trigs picked up to go after, got a relaxing trip as have to be back home on Saturday see how far I can go & how many trigs I can get photos of on the trip. This was the first stop at Bathurst TAFE and took the required photo once I found a spot to shoot from. Thanks for the trig Geocaching Australia. Hopefully there will be a few I can get closer on the trip. Clan Phoenix

#GA2419 - 13:10; Day five, the last day of the summer sojourn in the Blue Mountains with the geohoney. After an enjoyable few days based in Leura, the time had come to pack up and head for home. It was also time to do one last quick caching run around the area while the other half finished getting ready for the trip. After collecting some caches in Leura and doing a sweep through Wentworth Falls, we were now packed up and headed for home the back way through Bathurst, Orange and Canowindra with a view to adding a few caches as well as a few dragonZones to the tally. We had now reached Bathurst and were headed off to have a look at the Mount Panorama circuit. Luckily school was out and we were able to make our way through the carpark to a convenient spot for a snap of this one. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Interesting. Is it or isn't it a trig. The vanes are a trig, so that would say it is. Anyway, it's there for all to see....

A Bathurst surrounds trig hunt day with master navigator rogerw3.

A quiet Sunday afternoon perfect to traverse the TAFE grounds and park ... a very odd placement of a trig Vanes, one trusts this is a genuine ridgy-didge trig.

Found today with whitemushroom on our extended Trig hunt in the area.

Probably best to do this one after school hours or school holidays.

One needs to get back a bit to spot this. I walked right around the building without seeing the trig. It was only when I walked across the road to the grass that I could see it poking up above the roof.
Perhaps some trig is missing its top and it was put up there as a student prank.

Spotted this one yesterday, and after finding it not on the six maps database went back for a closer look and zoomed in photo. It certainly looks like a trig to me so I will create the listing. As mentioned in the description maybe they use it to teach surveying at the TAFE? The building isn't on top of a hill like trigs are normally located so a bit of a strange one.
