Description

A nice easy walk, children friendly and great views over Kingston and Taroona

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the centre point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Additional Information:

Park the car at S42° 57.926' E147° 19.702'

Walk uphill (North) along the private road you will see a sign showing the way.

Just before the road turns to the right you will see a sign on the left showing the start of the walking track.

The track continues North for a little while before turning east, it's at this point where the Bonnet Hill Reserve starts.

Their is a seat at the top to have a rest and enjoy the great views.

Well. This cache had me wondering if I should do it. The walk didn't worry me but the radio program I was listening to about snakes and snake bites had me concerned

Wandered up and was greeted by a great view

I drove too far along this road and had to do a long reverse out when I came to a closed gate. There was no where to turn. I parked the car then close to the trail and was soon at the top. An easy walk. A great view from up there.

Called in for this trig with Goose of GooseandEgg, it was a nice walk and we got some good views from the top.

Went for a walk with SSR to find this trig. A nice easy and enjoyable walk with glimpses of good views. Liked the view over Kingston Beach from the seat.

22-Oct-16
Rain was threatening as we started the short walk from where we parked the car to this Trig Point. Thankfully it held off during our visit. Two photos have been added to the Gallery: Mrs y'stassie at the beacon; and Mrs y'stassie pointing to the partially buried survey marker. Thanks Geocaching Australia for the cache.

Lovely spot, even with the rain.

What a great view from the trig, a pity it was cloudy as it would have been even better. It was nice to see a regular trig. TFTT

Well, I might have been here on other business, but hey there's a trig with very nice views, and a lovely seat to take them in from. THANKS.

22-May-16
A little walk up the hill was just the ticket after lunch.
Views from the seat give a whole new perspective to Kingston and the glimpses of Taroona along the track were good as well.
Interesting that the concrete has moved and I couldn't see the brass pin...

Went in search of this trig this afternoon
One of the easiest trigs that I have done
The track is well defined, very unlike the one I did last Sunday, where there were no tracks at all
Sainted the trig, which has a dome, at 1335hrs
The walk out was pleasant and the view of the Shot Tower was quite pleasant.
Description was very adequate
Thanks for the *FTF*
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.
