Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I spotted this trig like structure driving along the Stuart Highway and pulled over to investigate. It appears to be come sort of survey mark, but what was its use? Any comments? Anyway, this and the two others add to the driving experience, and they have trig metal structure.

If anyone has reason why this should not be listed it can be archived.

Found on our winter road trip around to NT and across the desert to Queensland, we made it from Sydney to here in 2 days ! safe to say we are a little tired and ready to take things a bit slower. We love it out here! a weird little spot to come across 5 trigs in the middle of no where, wonder what they were used for?

We have just visited Coober Pedy and on our way to Woomera. A quick stop to snap this pic of the trig point.

#GA1467 - 08:45; Day 10 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune and albida33. After a night at Glendambo, we were now headed for Kulgera in the NT for our next overnighter. We cached along the Stuart Highway, as well as around Coober Pedy and Marla as we travelled towards the border. This was our first trig stop for the morning and this was the last of five trigs in this area. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

On the way to the Mega at Alice Springs when we managed to find a safe spot to pull off with the caravan. Found another trig nearby and a moveable. Still a couple of trigs left. Might try to stop on the way back.

I must thank Goldenwattle for publishing these trigs – on the way up to Coober Pedy I completed a near by trig & dropped of a movable I noticed these trigs when I left & I thought how did I miss them on the web- when I logged the trig they were there – so on the way home – it’s time to log these 3 off trigs. Parked & walked to trig - thanks
