Geocaching with 16 newbies for my silver Duke of Edinburgh Exploration.

We were trying to do as much as we could without GPS, using more old-school methods of navigation (i.e. map & compass). Boy did we go the long way! Had to use the GPS in the end, but well worth it! Amazing spot, thanks for showing us.

Unfortunately we were a little to late to get to it when we came on the 30th, decided not to risk it as the tide was almost in.

We came back on the first and soon had it in hand.

We loved this one!!!

However it is advisable not to cut across the flats at Okoromai Bay rather then walking back around the rocks. We almost lost our boots in the mud!

AMAZING VIEW!!! Well worth the walk up the hill!

Trying to do as much as we could without GPS - used it to point us in the right direction and was pretty easy after that.

Geocaching with 16 newbies for my silver Duke of Edinburgh Exploration.

Searched for a long time on the 30th and had no luck. As the tide was too far in for Okoromai's edge then, we decided to come back and do both the next day.

It was a good idea as we finally found it!

Wow, what a place to hide the cache! Alas, we had no luck finding it. Perhaps it is missing?

Everyone loved lunching at the rotunda. A few attempted to find the cache from both sides but were unsuccessful. I even slided down the stairs scraping my hand and bruising my tailbone. Beware of the slippery stairs!!!!!

We found the Wedding Venue Visitor - Husband on the path beside the bridge and deposited it in another cache.

Easily found and hid under the 'bridge' to write the log in the rain.

Geocaching with 16 newbies for Duke of Edinburgh silver exploration. We tried to search without a GPS first as part of our assessment but were going completely in the wrong direction.

GPS turned us round the right way and once we spotted 'Billy' it was a race to see who could get there first!

Geocaching with 16 newbies for Duke of Edinburgh silver exploration and were trying first without a GPS for our assessment.

Once the group stopped and actually read the cache description properly it was an easy grab.

Again, nice easy find without GPS. The group really liked the hiding spot on this one.

Didn't need the GPS for this one, and found it after a little searching. Nice hiding spot!

Nice place to hide a cache Smile

Unfortunately we needed the GPS for this one as we were looking completely in the wrong place. Very happy to have found it.

Lovely walk and lovely view, despite the patches of heavy downpour!

Took us a long, long time to find we were almost ready to give up.

Nice & easy, we loved the scenic route!

Nice spot to hide a cache! And nicely re-hidden by Helefant.

After 5 mins of searching was only found by accident by one of our group.

Geocaching for my silver Duke of Edinburgh exploration.

Spent nearly an hour looking for this one over 2 visits. Easily found Kathleen but were stumped on the cache.

I have since found out where it is. Well, as it turns out we did find it - just didn't know we found it. Nice hide!

Front of the group rushed right past this one, to the delight of those behind who were then able to find it first!

TFTC!

Geocaching for my silver Duke of Edinburgh exploration. We completely missed this area the first time, but only because we weren't paying attention.

Went back & made a rather easy grab.

TFTC! Smile

Well this one certainly had us stumped for quite a while. We all gave up and sat to look at the incredible view for a while SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

It was on the way back down when one bright spark decided to have one last check. Success!

Not the place we initially thought it would be, but once we confirmed with GPS we were in the right place was an easy grab.

Caching for my Duke of Edinburgh Silver exploration showing 16 newbies how its done!

Group was a bit apprehensive to do this one as it seemed like a big task - but they were so glad we convinced them, and some even mentioned it as the highlight of their day!

Very nice walk, lovely view despite the bad weather. Watch out for the slippery rocks between waypoints 1 & 2!

Geocaching for my silver Duke of Edinburgh exploration. Great first cache for 16 newbies.

Tried at first without GPS as part of our assessment... and were in completely the wrong place - whoops!

Thanks to Jacksonz for the help on this one. I knew it would be there and it would be well camoed but just couldn't see it myself. 16 new cachers very well impressed!

TFTC!

Before using the GPS we were looking in all sorts of completely wrong places! Definitely needed it for this one.

Geocaching for my silver Duke of Edinburgh exploration. We had to try to find them without using GPS to start with, so it was definitely an interesting experience. Thanks for the clues, they definitely helped out 16 new cachers!

Took us a while - about the 5th person to check the area finally found it.

Easily found without GPS.

Nice spot.

I mentioned where I believed the cache would be from the name, and suddenly the boys were racing off wanting to be the one to find it first!

Found it. Unfortunately it was very wet. TFTC

Was a cricket tournament or some such at the park. Packed with muggles but a very nice bridge.

Unfortunately the cache guardian (hedgehog) met a timely end... right by the cache!
