Logs for AugurNZ

21-Jun-17
Time for the airship Halberg to set sail again! I haven't been on a good Geocaching adventure for a long while now. This will be my first foray back in these waters. I have some long overdue plunder to share as well, if I can find it in time.

17-Nov-11
Having mentioned to ishoot at the 11-11-11 event that I would soon be invading the T.A.P.C.C. region, I made my first serious foray into the Collective's area today, with six anomalies found in one day, the most I have done to date in a single day. The Airship Halberg was moored at Orangihina Park, with Lady Winsome staying aboard while I investigated three nearby anomalies.

After successfully locating GC28K0T and then dispelling a couple of magpies that were disturbing Lady Winsome, I walked up the path to this temporal anomaly. Similar to sonia26642's experience, I approached this anomaly from completely the wrong direction and didn't see the object mentioned in the clue at first. This location has a wide selection of bramble varieties, including large thorny trees, and blackberry vines hidden amongst the long grass. I was attacked by them both whilst locating the source of this temporal anomaly.

This was another good sized anomaly, with plenty of flotsam around it. I didn't take anything this time. See my track log for a graphical representation of my hunt for anomalies in the T.A.P.C.C.'s region. Our next anomaly to find was GC20G7T

The Airship Halberg was moored at Orangihina Park, with Lady Winsome staying aboard while I investigated three nearby anomalies.

After successfully finding both GC28K0T and GC2QQFN, I continued up the path to this anomaly site. The tide was high and the view across to Rangitoto was splendid. This anomaly, like the other two found in the vicinity, had plenty of flotsam around abouts, but I didn't take any samples here either. The inter-dimensional wash seems very good here, bringing lots of flotsam through the anomalies. No wonder the Collective are so busy in this area.

After locating all three anomalies in this section of Oringihina Park, I returned to the Airship Halberg, where Lady Winsome was still fussing about the magpies, and we cast off. The light on-shore breeze blew our airship into a tree as we departed, but no damage was done. See my track log for a graphical representation of my hunt for anomalies in the T.A.P.C.C.'s region.

This was part of my first serious mission into the realm of the T.A.P.C.C., and a day of finding six anomalies, the most I have found in a single day to date. On this day I also found...

GC28K0T
GC2QQFN
GC20G7T
GC18V48
GC28P61
The view from the top of the hill was nice, as the tide was high at the time. I was dreading the thought of having to step out onto the Pohutukawa tree that was hanging tenaciously to the edge of the cliff. I wouldn't even tie the Airship Halberg to it, let alone test my own weight on it. Fortunately this proved to be unnecessary anyway, and the temporal anomaly was found without risking life and limb.

I noticed some sort of oxide layer around the circumference of the anomaly. It may be starting to degrade. This is quite a small anomaly, so not much in the way of flotsam here. See my track log for a graphical representation of my hunt for anomalies in the Collective's region.

One such return trip found Lady Winsome somewhat vexed and muttering about "evil black wings and shiny beady eyes". Further observation revealed the cause to be a nearby pair of magpies circling the mizzen mast and dive-bombing her. After subduing her protestations that we "depart this wretched place forthwith", I was able to locate the anomaly fairly promptly.

The area near the anomaly had quite a bit of inter-dimensional flotsam around it, including a trackable object, which I recovered. Our next anomaly to find was GC2QQFN.

The Halberg was moored some way away, as our aerial vantage point revealed the park to be quite busy today, so I approached on foot instead. The clues that came from the Home Office for this anomaly were right on the money, and the anomaly was no problem to locate. However, there was some mention of a magnetic field surrounding this anomaly, which did not display as implied. Perhaps this anomaly needs to be revisited.

We had moored the Airship Halberg quite some way from where the anomaly was reported to be, and Lady Winsome was somewhat outspoken about "the distance that a lady of her standing should be expected to perambulate". When we arrived in the shade of the pine trees, she refused to go further, and I was left to search alone for the anomaly. As you can see from my track log, I spent quite some time seeking out this temporal anomaly. Eventually I realized that I had walked past it several times without noticing. These rifts in space-time can be hard to detect sometimes.

11-Nov-11
For the last few days I have been searching for more clues to a predicted spatio-temporal upheaval in the aether somewhere in the vicinity of Glen Eden, Auckland, on this day, 11-11-11. Such a massive convergence of timelines in a single rift of the time-space continuum must have been related to the auspicious alignment of today's date. I have traced and located the confluence point, which appears to be at a repurposed refuse tip in Glen Eden. Lady Winsome and I were both present at the event horizon.

Such a convergence attracted the attention of many other Temporal Anomaly Hunters, and it was great to meet so many others, particularly those who have so much more experience than myself at tracking anomalies. The confluence also dredged up a great amount of flotsam (video), and I spent quite some time documenting it all. I have never seen quite so much inter-dimensional flotsam in one place before. Extraordinary! Together with the assembled Anomaly Hunters, we were able to secure the spatio-temporal upheaval without the general populace even becoming aware of the danger they were in. There was evidence of all manner of Gravimetric / Plasmo-aetheric Sensor (G/PS) devices in use by my fellow Anomaly Hunters. It was interesting to see what equipment is being used in the field these days and to share experiences with others. The nature of our work is such that there is not often opportunity to exchange notes and ideas. I clearly still have a lot to learn about hunting for temporal anomalies, and more "tools of the trade" to acquire to equip the Airship Halberg with.

Having so many Anomaly Hunters in one place necessitated some careful planning and logistical support services, and we were grateful to Team FMZ for their efforts in this regard.

Anomalies found: 16

I spent most of the time tidying up the diabetes awareness display. Thanks to all those who helped pack it up and carry the equipment back to the Airship Halberg. This was my first CITO.

08-Nov-11
This was another temporal anomaly I found whilst familiarizing myself with the anomalies in the area in preparation for a predicted spatio-temporal upheaval in the aether somewhere in the vicinity of Glen Eden on 11 November 2011, being 11-11-11. By the time I got here it was nightfall, and I was searching by gaslight. It took me only a short search to find this one and rated it. I was also searching for anomaly GC31BPV but was unable to locate that one.

See my track log for a graphical representation of my hunt for these two anomalies.

I spent a bit of time searching for this temporal anomaly by gaslight, after having successfully found anomaly GC237YP. However, I was unable to locate this one before Lady Winsome called out from the poop deck of the Airship Halberg that she was getting cold and that we should be returning home. It was a mild, clear night out, so I am unsure why Lady Winsome was so cold, nor why she didn't simply go belowdecks until I had returned. But still, I shall attempt to find this anomaly again some time soon.

The spatio-temporal upheaval that our Analytical Engine predicted to occur in the aether somewhere in the vicinity of Glen Eden is drawing closer. I spent some more time this evening preparing for it by familiarizing myself with some known temporal anomaly sites in the area. I'm now including Oratia and Sunnyvale, as they are quite close to Glen Eden. The cemetery is a logical place to check, as it has natural links to the past that could be exciting the aether particles. This particular temporal anomaly is quite near to the cemetery, and I approached it at dusk, just before nightfall.

All manner of flotsam gets washed through these rends in the fabric of space-time. At this location I found an ammunition container which clearly had no place being in the present time. After sending the ammo can back through the time portal, I heaved my way back up the steps to the Airship Halberg, which was moored to a tree at the top of the ridge. I have rated this anomaly on Handicaching.

07-Nov-11
I am continuing to familiarize myself with the known eddies in the time-space continuum surrounding the township of Glen Eden, in preparation for a predicted spatio-temporal upheaval in the aether somewhere in this vicinity on 11 November 2011, being 11-11-11. I found this temporal anomaly quickly and easily, and I rated it on Handicaching. I shall continue onwards to other anomaly sites in Glen Eden in preparation for this predicted "earthquake in the timeline".

While tensioning some springs last night after the recent malfunctioning of our Analytical Engine aboard the Airship Halberg, I accidentally turned a small dial that I had never seen before. This caused the mechanical contraption to whir into life again and begin churning out its ticker-tape. At first I thought the the ejected paper was just a run-on end. However, I analyzed the data this morning and found something astonishing. It seems that this report is concerning a predicted spatio-temporal upheaval in the aether on 11 November 2011, being 11-11-11. The coordinates given in the report seem to be for somewhere in Glen Eden, Auckland.

I have therefore started checking possible anomaly sites in the Glen Eden area tonight, so that I can familiarize myself with the locality. Unfortunately, this first site of a known eddy in the time-space continuum yielded nothing other than a boggy mess where perhaps once a tree stood. It was hard to tell for sure though, as I was searching by gaslight. I shall continue onwards to other anomaly sites in Glen Eden in preparation for this predicted "earthquake in the timeline".

This is yet another temporal anomaly site I have visited in preparation for a predicted spatio-temporal upheaval in the aether somewhere in the vicinity of Glen Eden on 11 November 2011, being 11-11-11. This anomaly was difficult to find by gaslight at night, but I finally located it. I also rated this anomaly on Handicaching. Tomorrow I shall continue my search of other anomaly sites in Glen Eden in preparation for this predicted "earthquake in the timeline".

06-Nov-11
We had been having some problems with the Difference Engine hidden in the bowels of the Airship Halberg. Copious quantities of ticker-tape were spitting out of the receptacle, but none of it contained the coordinates of any temporal anomalies. The Difference Engine at the offices of the Royal Cartographic Society has not been working too well either. We were effectively blind for a while, unable to trace anomalies. When finally the cogs of the mechanical computational devices began to spin freely and the familiar patterns of pinholes started appearing in the ticker-tape, we went out immediately to try to locate the nearest anomaly.

When we arrived at the location, the park was deserted, so I proceeded on foot directly to the suspected location of the anomaly. It appeared as if someone from the general public may have been there first, however. All that remained was a small, lidless, empty, polymer jar with some green tape affixed around it. I have no idea whether this was, in fact, somehow related to the temporal anomaly, but it sure seemed out of place and yet very close to where we expected to find the anomaly.

We have collected the remains of the polymer jar for further investigation and analysis.

See my track log for a graphical representation of my hunt for this anomaly.

Hi, my wife and I are new Temporal Anomaly Hunters in Auckland. We're keen to meet others and we have no other plans at present for Boxing Day. We'd love to join you at Cornwall Park, if that is okay. We'll also be at the 11-11-11 event so we hope to meet plenty of folk there too.

03-Nov-11
On returning to this temporal anomaly tonight, I was able to locate it quite quickly thanks to the leg-work I put in the night before. I caught a glimpse of a strange figure nearby, it looked like a headless hunter. No telling what you might find next, what with all these eddies in the time-space continuum cropping up, what. It was raining quite heavily tonight, but we Temporal Anomaly Hunters are a hardy bunch, and a little precipitation won't prevent us from our duty of locating and documenting these rifts in space-time.

02-Nov-11
Whilst waiting for the smoke to dissipate from our home this evening, after Lady Winsome's slight kitchen mishap, we went out searching for a few temporal anomalies, successfully finding one in Sunnyvale. A group of hooligans had interrupted the search at Don Buck Camp, so we continued on here to Coroglen, only to find that a couple of teens were practically sitting on the site of this temporal anomaly. Torn by my mandate to avoid unnecessarily alarming the public, and the prospect of these youngsters disappearing into a temporal vortex, I though better of warning them of the danger they were in. Temporal anomalies can be fickle things, and they probably walked away quite unscathed after I had departed. Unfortunately, it has confined my anomaly finds to just the one for tonight. We'll be back later for another attempt at this.

Whilst waiting for the smoke to dissipate from our home this evening, after Lady Winsome's slight kitchen mishap, we went out searching for a few temporal anomalies, successfully finding one in Sunnyvale. Bolstered by this success, we continued to search for another, this time at Don Buck Camp. With the Airship Halberg tethered to a tree, I shimmied down the landing rope and began my ground search. It took some time to focus in on this anomaly, and during the search some young hooligans pulled up in their buggy and began carousing in the park. Not wanting to startle them with the physics of inter-dimensional wormholes and rifts in space-time, I decided to depart, leaving this particular anomaly un-found for now. We then carried on to another nearby anomaly site.

I came home from the offices of the Royal Cartographic Society this evening to find our home airing out after apparently being engulfed in smoke, as Lady Winsome had been let loose in the kitchen again, almost setting the place ablaze in the process. It seems that there are only two possible varieties of toast in her cooking repertoire: barely cooked, and cremated. While we waited for the cloud of smoke to dissipate, we went out to locate another temporal anomaly. This one was quick and easy to locate, although I had to wait around for a local businessman to depart first, setting the tone for the rest of the evening.

01-Nov-11
Temporal anomalies come in all shapes and sizes, some are so small that nothing can pass through them. Others, like this one, can fit a herd of cattle through them! This rift in the time-space continuum caused a link back to the pioneering days of kauri logging, allowing a bullock team to pass through it. Fortunately the location was a commercial area, it was at night, and raining by the time the Airship Halberg arrived, with Lady Winsome at the aftcastle helm. Lady Winsome opted to remain within the dry confines of the airship, while I sallied forth to round up the errant beasts and return them to their proper timeline. The information we received about the anomaly was great, and I was able to locate it quickly. The marker that I picked up recently was also sent through this anomaly, along with the bullocks.

31-Oct-11
Our visit to this magnetic pole tonight was part of an effort to apply the findings of Jean-Baptiste Biot and Félix Savart to currents in the aether. Whether or not aether is a conductor has been speculated for some time, and measuring equipment available at present aboard the Airship Halberg does not seem to be accurate enough to detect currents in the aether over great distances. We did find this North pole quite quickly on this overcast All Hallows Eve, but the results of the investigation into trans-anomalic deracination were inconclusive at best.

To further develop my theory of trans-anomalic deracination, I have been studying the works of Jean-Baptiste Biot and Félix Savart to see whether their findings might also apply to currents in the aether. Tonight I took the Airship Halberg out under an overcast All Hallows Eve sky, and, along with Lady Winsome, searched for two magnetic poles to test this premise against. We found the South pole quite quickly, with Lady Winsome electing to remain aboard the Halberg rather than facing the prospect of negotiating the traffic on the ground. We are now heading to the North pole, while using the sensors along the hull of the airship to sample the aetheric currents at regular intervals along the way.

30-Oct-11
Lady Winsome and I returned to this temporal anomaly this evening, around 11pm. Sure enough, the place was deserted, so I was able to search with impunity. It proved to be quite a feat, as I'm not as young as I once was. The anomaly had plenty of flotsam around, but no sign as yet of the makeshift marker that might yet prove a connection exists between these eddies in the time-space continuum. I shall return to this spot again to see whether my marker washes up here. Amongst the flotsam I did find another marker, not one I have sent, and so I have taken this one for analysis in the meantime to determine where it is from and where it might go next.

29-Oct-11
Along with Lady Winsome, I took the Airship Halberg to investigate this rift in the time-space continuum. I was testing to see whether there may be an aethereal vortex linking this anomaly to another nearby anomaly. Once we arrived in the general vicinity and had disembarked the Halberg, we set off on foot towards the park where this anomaly is reported to be. Lady Winsome accurately pointed me towards the most likely spot for the location of the anomaly. We have sent a makeshift marker through the anomaly to see if it might eventually end up in the other nearby anomaly. This is not a very scientific experiment, as there is no control for checking the destination of the marker should it arrive elsewhere. This is only a makeshift attempt for now.

As part of a scientific experiment in aetheric deracination between two supposedly intertwined rifts in the time-space continuum, we visited this temporal anomaly this afternoon to test the deracination theory between it and GC2NBN5. Unfortunately, there was a public event happening in the vicinity, so we were unable to continue with the experiment for now, to avoid causing concern to the members of the public gathered here.

This will be our first formal CITO event. As newer Temporal Anomaly Hunters, it will be our pleasure to assist with the cleanup after the event.

28-Oct-11
My good wife, Lady Winsome Habeas-Corpus Roebuck, and I shall be attending this event. I am already stockpiling some coal for the Airship Halberg for this evening of merriment. I shall be resplendent on the night in my Steampunk finest. I hope to meet other Temporal Anomaly Hunters during this event. Lady Winsome may not be physically able to participate in all events on the night, so I trust that there will be plenty of friendly banter at the Event Headquarters to keep her occupied whilst I participate in some of the outdoor goings-on.

Having walked from the Royal Cartographic Offices recently, to the location of a nearby temporal anomaly in town, I have decided to do a bit more walking to improve my fitness. This afternoon I took a stroll from home, down to Henderson Park, which is a nice open area in suburban West Auckland, featuring a stand of tall trees. Whilst walking in the shade of these trees I experienced mild déjà vu, and thereby discovered another temporal anomaly. I had to keep my wits about me, as this one was particularly difficult to spot. Nearby to the anomaly, it appeared as though some one or some thing had created a nest or a bivouac for themselves in the roots of a fallen tree. Warily, I scanned the area for any other signs of flotsam that may have traveled through the aether to this anomaly, but this particular anomaly seems too small to support any.

25-Oct-11
Concentrating as I was on a new survey map at the time, I almost missed the alert about this anomaly. I was ensconced at the offices of the Royal Cartographic Society in Newton, Auckland, when we received an urgent telegram from the Home Office about an anomaly that had been detected very close to our offices. So close it was, in fact, that I wouldn't even need to travel by bicycle, let alone aboard the Airship Halberg. The anomaly was easily within walking distance of the RCS offices. I made my way to the coordinates and there entered a bamboo jungle. I searched for about 30 minutes amongst piles of rubble and detritus, with bamboo shoots growing all through it, but could not find any sign of a temporal anomaly here. An inquisitive citizen, possibly from a local establishment, inquired as to what I was looking for. I assured him that everything was quite fine, and that I was just searching for a lost geodetic survey marker. He seemed to accept this explanation and continued on his way.

21-Oct-11
I went to visit the Ambassador and Lady Emily Rose Darkwood this afternoon, and while there I took the Ambassador out to the site of this temporal anomaly, as he wanted to see what all the fuss was about. The Home Office has sent me a missive requesting that I keep an eye on the Ambassador's residence, as there are several such anomalies nearby. We found the anomaly quite easily. It was secure, with only a little flotsam around. We did not take or leave anything this time.

The mad scientists have returned the platypus to me, but I am still awaiting the results of their study. I have returned Squelch to this temporal anomaly for now, and will keep it under observation to see where the animal turns up next.

Lady Winsome did a bit of cleaning of the Airship Halberg this morning. The first I knew was the fuss she was making about "some critter" in the bilges. I had neglected to inform her of Squelch the Platypus, whom I had recovered from a temporal anomaly yesterday. She told me in no uncertain terms that "the critter" should not be kept in the airship, and must be set free at once.

We set about to find another temporal anomaly in order to help Squelch on his way. The temporal anomaly GC1QE6M seemed the most appropriate, as it is located near the Henderson Creek, and platypuses prefer to be near water. We hadn't had much luck previously when trying to find this anomaly, so another earnest attempt was made, this time successfully.

The platypus was released near the creek, just as a couple of ducks were swimming past. So long, Squelch! Enjoy your journey. Was that a small tear in the corner of Lady Winsome's eye as Squelch departed?

An early morning telegram from the Home Office this morning sent me out searching for an anomaly at 36°47.637' South by 174°36.397' East, where a report had come in of a strange creature appearing from seemingly out of nowhere. Figuring this to be the work of a temporal anomaly, it was imperative to quickly and quietly capture this creature. As there was no rousing Lady Winsome at such an early hour on a winter's morning, this was my first solo flight aboard the Airship Halberg. Fortunately the journey was short, and navigation by land features was made easier by the recent addition of a new road leading in the general direction.

When I arrived, the creature was found lazing amongst some succulent plants. It was clearly a platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), and would need to be removed with all haste to some water if it was to survive. I made a note of the location of the temporal anomaly that brought the platypus here. It was in fact the first anomaly I have actually found, and Squelch the Platypus was the first object I have found that came through a temporal anomaly.

Getting the platypus up into the Airship Halberg was quite a mission, as the airship was moored at a nearby Roman ruin, which itself may have also come through the temporal anomaly. Managing the rope ladder whilst carrying a wriggling platypus was not easy, but once safely stowed belowdecks the animal gave me no further trouble.

We took the Airship Halberg to the site of our first locally identified temporal anomaly today. The report indicated that this anomaly was centered near the bridge that was erected in commemoration of King George V's coronation. An appropriate place indeed for a steampunk temporal anomaly surveyor to being his quest.

As the updraft caused by a passing train may unsettle a lighter-than-air vessel, we chose to moor the Halberg away from the rail lines, which meant descending to the ground using the rope ladder. My good wife, Lady Winsome, chose to remain aboard the Halberg whilst I began searching for the anomaly. The Focused Luminiferous Aether Beam Theodolite (FLABT) device which is installed aboard the Halberg was able to assist only as a rough guide in locating the anomaly. The Home Office has promised us an upgrade, to pinpoint the location of temporal anomalies, but that has not yet arrived.

Despite an extensive search of the grounds around the Coronation bridge, I was unable to locate the anomaly on this occasion. I searched around and under the old bridge, around and under the new bridge, and around and under the rail bridge. An inspection was made of the underside surfaces of each bridge in turn, but to no avail. I shall return again soon, hopefully with more accurate measurement equipment next time.

[Today I came with some people from both the Auckland and the Waikato Steampunk Associations, as we descended upon the Pukemiro Bush Railway for a day of anachronism and mayhem. I came across Lady Heloise and Percy and their son William from the WSA, who are also keen Anomaly Hunters. Together we hunted for a temporal anomaly here, as the Home Office had informed me of an anomaly in the vicinity] OOC:I had downloaded the *.loc file to my TomTom GPS unit. [However, as has already been stated, "Co-ordinates appear to be hard to narrow down due to the amount of nearby metal". There is, indeed, much metal at the location, including many disused and retired locomotives. There are also many hills nearby, and this proved to add to the confusion,] OOC:our 3D driving map showed our car as driving down the middle of the Waikato river while leaving the site at the end of the day.

[This was my very first anomaly hunt. It was great fun trying to find it, even though we never actually located the anomaly. We were already heading to Pukemiro with the Auckland Steampunk Association anyway, so I decided to do a bit of temporal anomaly hunting while we were there. It was great trying to find the anomaly at such a beautiful location, and on a wonderful day out with other anachronists and time-travellers. I think perhaps that may have been the problem. We may well have arrived at Pukemiro at some point in time before this anomaly began. Oh, the joy of temporal paradoxes!]

OOC: All of my Geocaching logs will speak of "temporal anomalies" instead of caches.
