Fall Road Trip 2018! I had a goal in mind of completing the WA County Challenge and nine target caches in the area. So, over the course of nine days I drove out on a lollipop route through SD, WY, MT, ID, and WA with a short detour into OR. I ended up finding 154 caches and put on 4829 miles on the car. I got to see a lot of the state and even revisited a few spots I had been before when I came out here last year. All in all, I would say that this trip was an overwhelming success. I am glad that I managed to take the time to do it right.
Today I work up outside of Tiger, WA in a national forest campground. It was a great way to spend the day. I got to watch the sun rise over the lake before hitting the road. I was traveling across the state of Washington on Hwy 20. The scenery along the way was amazing. I am glad that I took the slower, more scenic route. I got a good look at the Cascade Mountains throughout the days adventure. I ended up 340 further west in the Ghost Town of Monte Cristo. After hiking out to the townsite, I decided to spend the night. Ended up finding 25 caches today.
This cache is one of the main reasons that I took the hike out here. It was absolutely a great time and I know that the geodog enjoyed the chance to be out of the car for a while. Once we got out to the town, I had to walk around for a while and explore before going up to find the cache. I am happy to say that I found it with little problem and that it is in great shape. Thanks for bringing me out here and keeping this old timer going throughout the years.
Thanks to all the COs that made this trip possible.

Yellowdogs and I decided to take a week and head out west to Utah. The state has been on our bucket list for a while now. So many wonderful places to explore. We ended up putting over 3200 miles on the rental and found 384 caches in that time. We explored the highs and lows of the state and everywhere in between. We ended up with a lot of memories out of the deal. I am still smiling from all the fun that we had.
We started out the day by caching in Provo. We wanted to finish this area up before we headed on down the road. After we grabbed everything that was on our list, we hit US Hwy 6 towards Green River. Once we got up in elevation, it started to snow on us. That made things a little more interesting. We took the extra time needed to go get Beaver Springs and then a nice detour south to grab Potters Pond. Both trips were worth the extra time. We managed to pick up some more virtuals along the route. Even with the weather, it was a great day to ge out caching. Ended up finding 49 caches today.
This was one of the main reasons the two of us took this journey. As with most caches that are working on their Jasmer, August 2000 is a rare one. For both of us, we were able to complete a triple Jasmer with this find. It was totally worth coming out here. Not only finding the cache, but the experience. We are out in the woods and it is snowing. We ended up with the place to ourselves. Once we left the campground, we didn't see anyone. We had a little bit of GPS bounce, but not enough to hinder us. We honed in on our goal and found the goods. Sweet. Thanks for maintaining this one throughout the years.

Geocaching in the Ozarks with Laura (no name) today. We started the day in Warsaw, MO and ended up in Rogers, AR. We picked a route that would swing us wide to pick up Arkansas's oldest cache. We got to see a little bit more of the country side this way and pick up a few more counties. We saw some great sites and had some fun while we were at it. It doesn't get much easier than this one. I have done a few 2000 caches. Great setup on this one. That is one way to ensure that it survives throughout the years. Thanks for keeping this one going thoughout. It is much appreciated. XNSL TFTC

I ended up spending the weekend in Southern Florida with Yellowdogs caching our way around. I had a layover in Miami after a recent visit to Peru, so why not make a weekend out of it instead. Yellowdogs flew down to join me and we had a great time. We basically did a big loop. We started out in Miami and cached there most of Friday. We headed down into the Everglades and then headed west to Naples. We had to stop at Christmas Cache on the way. Saturday found us on the west coast, and we worked our way north to Fort Myers. Time to head back east and finish up the day in West Palm Beach. Sunday found us with a short list of caches remaining. We hung out in the Fort Lauderdale area picking off the remaining caches. We concentrated on four types of caches: virtuals, webcams, earthcaches, and challenges. We even found a few extra along the way. We had a find count of 152 with eight DNFs by the time we were done. It was a great way to spend the weekend and we got to see a lot of cool things.
I am really glad I had a long-sleeve flannel shirt with on this trip. I needed it for this cache. We layered up and covered ourselves in bug spray. We brought the bottle with us and had to reapply a few times. Wow. I thought Minnesota was bad for skeeters. This place takes the cake. It was well worth it though. We hiked out, said hi to Lucy the resident gator, and managed to get to ground zero. We found the cache waiting for us. Thanks for keeping this one going throughout the years. We enjoyed the hike and the experience is one we won't forget.

I decided to do something a little on the crazy side. I wanted to finish up the Arizona county challenge. So, I added an extra day to my vacation in Arizona and rented a car. In 23 hours, I ended up driving over 700 miles, found 52 caches, and picked up nine new counties. I even was able to pick up a few old 2000 caches while I was in the area. This trip was fueled on coffee as I pushed through the night to complete the adventure before I had to head back to airport. I saw a lot of the country side and had a good time doing it. Thanks to all the COs that made this one possible. Nothing like going for a long hike in the earlier morning light. I just headed out and hoped for the best. It wasn't too bad of a hike and I managed to make it out in one piece. Glad that I took the extra time needed to get to this one. Well worth the effort. Nice that this old timer is still around and being found. XNSL TFTC

Headed south today driving from Old Concord, MN to Punkin Center, CO with Laura (no name). We had a lot of miles to drive, so we kept the caching to a minimum. We still had time to find a few along our route. Laura (no name) needed to find Mingo, so we stopped and grabbed all five caches at this particular exit. This made for a fun goal for the day. Just posting a note for this time around. Looks a lot different than when I was here six years ago. Glad to see it is still going.

What better time to head south to Georgia than in February. I teamed up with Clubmud, Yellowdogs, and Vulcan64 on a massive caching run. We all flew into the Atlanta airport and rented a car from there. We ended up putting on 1458 miles on the rental car in the five days that we were in the area. The biggest goal for me was the 2000 caches. I wanted to get a double Jasmer, and I knew I could do it on this run. My second goal was to get a bunch of new counties. We ended up making a couple of loops along the interstates to pick up everything that we were looking at: Atlanta-Birmingham-Chattanooga-Atlanta-Charlotte-Columbia-Atlanta. Along the way, we found virtuals, some earthcaches, a bunch of challenges, four webcams, and a handful of multis, LBHs, & Wherigos. This whole thing took a lot of logistical planing. The total find count for the trip ended up being 232. That was a pretty good chunk. I am sure glad that everything worked out and there were no major incidents.
This was the object of our journey out onto Lake Lanier. We stopped on this island first and wandered over to ground zero. We meet up with J&KN at ground zero. That was a treat. It was nice to have a crew to share this cache with. One of the benefits of finding this cache is that I now qualify for a double Jasmer. We took some photos of our adventure and then wandered off to the next cache.

Spent four days in the Washington DC area with Laura (no name) and a bunch of eighth graders during their annual trip. Got to see a lot of interesting and unique sights along the way. The virtual and earth caches really helped to amplify the experience. The kids helped out with some of the answers, so it was a learning experience for them as well. Thanks to all cache owners that took the time to create these pages. TFTC

Well this is my second 9Key cache. The first one was in Minnesota. Funny how the caching world works. I only had time for a limited number of caches today in Texas. Four to be exact. This was my first one of the day. I couldn't drive within ten miles on this cache and not stop. 2000 caches are too rare and special. I follwed the backroads into the forest and found a place to park. The geodog enjoyed this stop after being stuck in the car for three hours. He got out and stretched for a bit. We hiked over to ground zero and quickly four the goods. Thanks for keeping this one going throughout the years. It is much appreciated. XNSL TFTC

I was forced to take a few days off of work, so I started thinking. I talked to jREST to see if he would be up for another Sodak trip. I figured that with two and a half days, we could knock out the bottom two tiers of DeLorme pages with corresponding counties. So, a plan started to develop and our list grew from there. A minimum of caches to qualify for the DeLorme, County, and County Seat Challenges for the two of us were chosen. We hit thirty-one SD counties and thirty pages. We even picked up five of each in Nebraska. All told 1812 miles were put on the car. Thanks to all the cachers who have placed caches along our route to make these challenges doable.
Glad we did this one in the off season. It took a bit of searching before spoting the correct spot. Now, on to the people garden at the top of the hill.

We found a place to park the car and the walked on over to ground zero. Not too many options, so we had it in hand. Got a couple weird looks from the local postal employees, but nothing too serious.

Just the kind of cache for this trip. We pulled into the empty lot and up to the beacon. A quick search and we had the goods. Across the street for a break and then south into the Hills.

The town sure was quiet. Glad we didn't come in August. We pulled over at the park and got out to stretch. I took a look a the history plaque while jREST read up on the motorcycle info. We found the interestingly disguised cache container after a short search. Surprised it is still here.

I had five days off of work and decided to head west on a road trip to try and finish up some challenge caches that I have been working on. I left Minnesota to drive to western Nodak, up into Saskatchewan, looped through Montana, heading home through Sodak, and finished up in Minnesota again. It was a fun trip by myself. I ended up with 2751 new miles on the car and caching in 67 different counties and 70 different DeLorme pages. Thanks to all the cache hiders that made this a possibility, especially in the desolate areas of North and South Dakota.
This was a nice people garden. It took a little bit to find the goods in the dark and scratchy situtation I found myself in, but I was determined. Time to fill up with fuel and coffee and start heading east again along Hwy 212.

We must be following the same route. I used this as a turning point as well. Finally heading in the direction of home. I stopped for this quick on and admire the wind damage to the sign. Now that is some strong wind.

A cache in SW ND hidden by someone from NE MN. Strange world we live in. I parked on the street and made the short walk over to ground zero. Nice quick find after admiring the scoria.

Stopped in the park to admire the remains. I have been here in the past, but that was before the EC existed. Nice to revisit this spot.

This one was a little tough in the dark. But I managed to track it down. Only a couple of options to choose from. Plans are in the works for another trip to Medora.

This was a really neat stop. I am sure glad that there was a cache here to highlight the location. I read the historical plaque and studied the building.

I parked at the motel and made the short walk to ground zero. No dogs today to worry about. Nice few of the coulee.

This was the second hide in this style today. It was pretty quiet tonight, so I managed to get in and out without too much difficulty.

I made this one a lot harder than it needed to be. I searched for a bit, and then went back to the car to do some more research. I searched again, and found the goods. I got a good laugh out of this one. I even go to sign in under a fellow Minnesotan, Aix sponsa.

Back into North Dakota under the cover of darkness. Somehow, I missed this county on my trips out west. I found the setting and container highly appropriate.

Well, it is back open. No government shutdown to keep me out. I am pretty sure I have been here before. Nice to have a reason to come back. I have been poking around the Badlands of North Dakota for the last couple of days. Very pretty landscape. I enjoyed another lesson in the geology of this fascinating area.

Yeah. This one took a lot longer that it should have. Oh well. I found what it was I was looking for in the end.

Day 3 of my road trip. I spent most of the day caching in Douglas County grabbing virtuals and the GPS Maze. Stopped in Castle Rock for a few caches and then down to Colorado Springs for the week. First cache of the day. I needed a cache in Lincoln County for a specific challenge and this one fit the bill. XNSL TFTC

Driving back from Utah along I-80 bound for Minnesota. Traveling through Nebraska most of the day. Didn't have any caches planned, so we just stopped when we needed to and looked up nearby caches to stretch the legs. It helped break the day up nicely. Thanks for placing a cache to help us along the day. XNSL TFTC
