Logs for Budokan

19-Dec-23
We have been working our way through this series for a long time. Great drive out to this one although Mrs B thought the goat track a bit too adventurous!Lovely still day on the ridgeOnly one left to go and we can work on the final seriesTftc

18-Jan-22
Followed the masses along the path to the viewpoint. Once there turned on the gps and saw this one was close but much more interesting and since it hadn’t been found for a long time in a popular spot decided it was the one to feed the addiction today.
Headed back to the bridge then easily followed the old track towards gz. Used the provided jump off waypoint and quickly had the cache in hand and only one painful brush with a Spaniard grass bush. Cache in excellent order and stoked i made the effort. Grabbed the travel bug that had been stuck for a while
Easily earns a fav point
Thanks for the adventure

What a fabulous way to feel alive. The weather was absolutely perfect with no clouds or wind and even warm enough for some to be swimming in the tarns. Thanks for the excuse to visit and teaching me a little more about what I was looking at.

15-Jan-22
Had a fabulous walk in a large clockwise circuit from the hot springs. Perfect day with views forever. Had zeroed in on another cacahe but unfortunately gz was too busy. Walked past this spot and had a feeling there might be something here and there was! Always enjoy finding out a little more about the world we live in. Tftc

27-Apr-21
Always love a great view and this spot didn't disappoint. Hadn't thought about a cache but when I got to the top I realised there was bound to be one here! Only 19m away. Cache was very exposed so tucked it away a bit. Tftc

07-Mar-21
Sadly this one has disappeared and I have decided not to reppace. Lots of finds over the years from people passing. Cache on

17-Feb-21
Unfortunately GZ has been completely landscaped and no longer able to hide a cache. This was one of my favourite caches and was happy that many others got to see this great piece of coastline.

28-Jan-21
Suspect I'll never get back here.
Had a chance to drive to the end of the road. Gotto find and cache and fish and chips for lunch. And perfect weather as well!

25-Jan-21
Loved the drive up the ski road and the surreal feeling of the area. It was hot in Queenstown but only 10deg here and even some snow to throw. Great to crest the hill and see the lake.
Always nice to learn a bit more about what we were looking at

24-Dec-20
Disabled as the cache has gone walkabout. Will replace asap

12-Sep-20
Been a while since we have fed the addiction. Whanau had decided on a long walk on a sunny day. What a great spot to explore and the bonus of a lighthouse at the end of a long windy walk. The maths worked perfectly but found I had no pen in my pack. Happy to provide more info and photo of the hide if the CO needs. Thanks for the adventure.
Gets a fav point too

12-Jun-20
Enjoyed a walk past this spot. Tried to find the cache but despite finding a likely spot came up empty handed. Great area to explore anyway despite coming up empty handed

11-Jun-20
Surprisingly interesting walk out to this spot. Lots of bird life and some interesting smells early near the car park. Thanks for the info on the boat to make the visit more interesting. Forgot my pen so photo attached to confirm our visit Tftc

09-Jun-20
Last of the finds during a fantastic visit to Golden Bay. Always love a cache that promises a view and this spot was epic. Cold wind but well worth the climb. Carried on around the loop for complete a fantastic walk. Tftc

08-Jun-20
What a great short walk! This one easily earns a favourite point from me. Tftc

I had heard this was a top spot to visit but it was even better than I expected. Amazing!
Pretty rough track but surprisingly not too slippery despite the recent rain.
Easily earns its favourite point and definitely in the running for Budokans cache of the year award!

07-Jun-20
Always am a sucker for a cache with a view. Glad we made the effort as the view of the Spit was awesome. Hint didn't make much sense compared to signage there but co ords were spot on luckily. Tftc

We had hoped to go further down the walkway but the little people meant a change of plans. The beach was a perfect spot for a run around. Big part of the hint was missing but a geo trail helped get us to gz. Beautiful beach. Tftc

06-Jun-20
A fantastic spot to visit and it has had an upgrade on facilities since our last visit 25 years ago. The water is still just as crystal clear . Tftc

Always enjoy a cache that promises a good view and this one didn't disappoint. Really enjoyed the walkway. Unreal what they created a hundred years ago. Tftc

One of those spots we wouldn't have stumbled across without a cache to draw us in. Lovely walk on the beach and found some photos of the old wharf in a book in the Bach we were staying in. Tftc

Remember visiting this spot 25 years ago. The water is still just as crystal clear but this time no divers enjoying the clarity. Tftc

Really impressive piece of engineering and ingenuity. Amazing that it is still being used today. Great hint meant cache soon in hand. Tftc

20-Feb-20
Always enjoy the walks in this part of the world. This one must have been left in my gps from a previous visit so was glad to make a quick find. In the end made a big loop of another few tracks for a solid walk. Tftc

17-Feb-20
Always enjoy an earth cache and this was a great spot to stop at. Absolutely magnificent specimen and a shame we were a few weeks late to see it in full bloom.
Turned into a mission to find the correct answers as a bit of internet sleuthing required and not easy on the phone

Quick find on the way down the hill. Stunned how many people had made the journey today out to this far flung spot
Tftc

Always love an adventure to find a cache. This one ticked a few boxes and with the bonus of a stunning view from GZ.
Was very excited that this might be the most easterly cache in the world which would have been an absolute must get. Hanjac did a bit of research for me and we thought it may well be.. Did a bit of sleuthing this morning and found that there are actually a couple of far flung caches in Fiji that are on the 179deg meridian so this one only counts as NZs most easterly and now mine too

Thanks for the adventure

16-Feb-20
Really enjoyed our walk out here. Mrs B was a little worried about the return climb!
Loved the Joseph Banks painting and how little the area has changed in 250years
Thanks for the adventure

Good spot to rest after the grind up the hill. Had the spot to ourselves which gave me a chance to scramble around and make the grab. Always love a great view at GZ
Tftc

Quick dash up the hill to grab this one while Mrs B started the grind up the hill. Surprisingly basic monument for an historic site. Can see why Cook thought this was a good spot to lay up
Tftc

Have seen photo's of this spot overthe years it nice to visit in person. Great walk in the wind to the end of the wharf. Quick find on our return thanks to the hint. Tftc

15-Feb-20
Always try to seek out virtual caches when visiting somewhere new. This one didn't disappoint and ended with a great view which is always a great way to finish. Photo posted here and info sent. Tftc

This one was a priority on this visit. Been at least 20years since we have been to Gisborne and this is the last cache to collect to get the NI final coordinates. Only a couple left in the SI as well and one there was thawted by the area being close for lambing. Always enjoy a cache with a view and this one didn't disappoint. Tftc

13-Feb-20
Always on the lookout for an adventure off the beaten track and this one added a bonus waterfall. Really surprised at the size of the valley after leaving Matawai. Great spot for a cache but unfortunately a wet log. Happy to give info on GZ of required
Took the whakarau road to the gisborne highway. 40km of gravel but a really stunning bit of scenery
Thanks for the adventure

17-Nov-19
Walking some of the Bibbulmun and this one had the added bonus of a view. Luckily I spied the out of place rocks to guide me to the cache. Tftc Budokan from New Zealand

Walking past on the Bibbulmun track. Always like a cache with an epic view and this spot was truly epic. Didn't have time to really seasch to long and couldn't see an obvious area matching the hint. Still enjoyed the adventure. Tffc

15-Nov-19
Doing a section of the Bibbulmun track over a fortnight. I am a sucker for a cache that promises a view and this one was spectacular if a little windy. Lost my hat and luckily it stopped literally next to the cache. Tftc Budokan from New Zealand

13-Nov-19
Over from NZ to walk a section of the Bibbulmun track. Found this while waiting for a lift back to town. Fantastic walk and amazing large trees.. Shame about the snakes! Tftc

23-Aug-19
Cache was missing and now has been replaced. Cache on

27-Apr-19
Have really enjoyed this series. This one is closest to my home base but almost the last one to collect. Enjoyed a great day walking over the island and the view from the top was amazing. Just the Poverty Bay to find and the North island is complete. The gps struggled to settle down and nothing really stood out from the hint but eventually found it east of the track. TFTC

Its been many years since I have been up. The view is even better than i remember! Stunned how many people were up here as we had taken a less conventional path to the top and had hardly seen anyone all day. Walked the crater rim track to gather the info. Always good to find a bit more about the world we live in. TFTC

These caves were a real surprise. Much bigger and longer than I expected. The signage seemed to be set up to walk through in the opposite direction compared to the cache instructions. We meet some people as we were walking out and later saw them heading for the wharf with a very nasty cut which needed paramedic attention. they had slipped badly in the cave so be careful!

Remember walking past this spot before. Always enjoy learning a little more about the world we live in. Beautiful Park in the middle of town with a cache as a bonus . Tftc

26-Feb-19
We are slowly ticking off the big waterfalls of NZ so was pleased to see one of the new virtuals on the walk to the falls
Great spot for a cache and I am a sucker for a great view.
Was warm and sunny on our walk but we got back to the car with a few minutes to spare before the Southerly change. By the time we drove to the road end it was 5 deg and hailing

03-Nov-18
Always enjoy learning a bit more about the world we live in. Have seen these falls from the Air many times as they stand out against the bush. Good to see them up close and personal. Tftc

Decided to bike up to check out the view. Solid effort but only a bit over over half an hour to get to the cache. Very wet so took a photo to prove the visit. Enjoyed the downhill ride back tot hr car but it was a very cold headwind. Tftc

01-Nov-18
Was keen to head down this famous piece of rally road and was pleased to see this cache along the way. One of those crazy places you would miss it not for geocaching. I always love a cache with a great view and the gale force winds on the lookout structure made me nervous. Tftc!

24-Oct-18
I had been camping at Motuora for the night and was paddling past on my way to Sandspit. Called in here for another look after being struck down with cache blindness on my last visit a couple of years ago. There were heaps of angry dive bombing birds again, Eventually decided to concentrate where to gps was pointing. Suddenly I spied a decent sized hanging cache. Great adventure.

Cache was missing so another replacement added. Cache on

Checked this morning and cache still OK. Cache on!
