Logs for Burlis

27-Dec-10
Easy find while out for a run. Have spent a fair bit of time on this track over the last week while holidaying in Waikawa. And why wouldn't you - such a nice track. TFTC

26-Dec-10
Found while out exercising off my Xmas feast. Hadn't had a chance to look at Geocaches in the area but thought there was likely to be one here. Had a scout around and sure enough......TFTC

29-Aug-10
A mountain bike ride with 'Navfam' (minus the fam) and 'GazSuz' (minus the Gaz) that inadvertently turned into a cache hunt (minus a GPSr) after meeting Kiwi Explorer along the top. Armed with the clue, we tore down the track (by tore, I actually mean slipped and slid and cautiously negotiated wet roots and rocks!) to find both new caches on this track. Can see this track being a regular ride for a Stoke boy. TFTC

A mountain bike ride that inadvetently turned into a geocaching hunt (minus a GPSr). Meet FTF Kiwi Explorer along the top and after a quick chat with him I was armed with the clue. I was also riding with the cache owner which you would think would be of some use, but it turns out he wasn't as once again he was way behind on the descent of the track. Cache in hand by the time he slowly arrived. A great track that will get lots of use. Well done to all involved in its construction.

15-Aug-10

FTF with Navfam. I can recall seeing the out of shape MTBer in Mr Navfam but I can't recall seeing the other out of shape MTBer he is referring to. As far as I can remember there was only the two of us riding. Although, I was some distance ahead so perhaps he was riding with someone else back there. Yeah, that must be it.

TFTC Topgear.

Nice little track and spot that I never knew existed. TFTC

Great spot. All quiet today apart from the birds and the rushing water. Bliss!

13-Jun-10
Found with some of the Enner Glynn Scouts while staying at the Scouting hut beside the Roding River. We may have cheated a little, gaining vehicle access to the forestry road to take us 3/4 of the way up by car. However, the Scouts enjoyed the short walk, exploring at the summit and searching out the cache. Magic view today but a very cold wind. TFTC

Found with some of the Enner Glynn Scouts while on a weekend camp at the Scout owned 'Roding Hut'. Had a touch of cabin fever after much rain on Saturday so I was glad for the short walk. I have been here a few times with Scout camps but this is the most water I've seen spilling over the dam. The Scouts enjoyed exploring the area and searching out the cache. I think I may have hooked a few on Geocaching! TFTC

30-Apr-10
Found with some Scouts on our way to the 'Campers Cup' competition in Chch. No chance of keeping up with some of the Scouts who were excited to find this one after finding their first ever cache earlier in the Lewis Pass. TFTC.

Found with Tim and other Scouts on way to Scouting Campers Cup in Christchurch. I think I may have inspired a few Scouts to take up Geocaching - I got quizzed about Geocaching for the remainder of the journey to Chch.

21-Apr-10
All quiet at GZ and a quick find. Left TB. TFTC

Lovely spot and a lovely day. Dropped off 'The Waldo Jog' TB. TFTC

Sunny and peaceful here today. TFTC

07-Apr-10
Not quite where I thought the cache would be, but nevertheless, a nice grunt up the hill on the MTB. My understanding is that the Mahoe track and the Fuchsia track are one in the same. I heard (and I don't know how true this is, but it makes a good story) that the Fuchsia track was miss-spelled 'Fushsia' with an 's' before the 'h' rather than a 'c' before the 'h'. A complaint was made to the council and they changed the signs to the correct spelling, 'Fuchsia'. Before erecting the new signage it was pointed out that an idle teenager with a wicked mind could quite easily deface the sign to read something quite inappropriate by utilizing the first three letters, 'Fuc....'. Hence the name change to 'Mahoe'. TFTC.

I ride the MTB up here regularly so I knew exactly where the cache would be. That didn't seem to help me with the actual find though. Once I had the cache in hand I couldn't believe I made the find so difficult. Oh well, that's caching for you! Took Badger GeoCoin TB. TFTC

What I thought was a quick detour on the way home after a MTB and Geocaching mission on the Grampians, turned out to be a bit of a slog. It didn't look all that far up the hill to GZ but the legs were protesting. Oh well, it's got to be good for ya! Managed to plot my route from across the valley as I came down the Mahoe track on the Gramps so no problem getting to GZ, nor with the find. Nice location. TFTC.

06-Apr-10
I was driving past today and saw a 'wheel of teeth' sitting there just waiting to be investigated while all was quiet. I didn't bother to turn on the GPSr and soon had the cache in hand. Nice hide. TFTC

05-Apr-10
Last time I was here I discovered a muggled cache. This is a lovely wee park so I hope the cache remains out of the hands of muggles this time. TFTC

30-Mar-10
Would never have stopped if not for Geocaching. Thanks for bring me here - what a great spot.

A nice detour off the detour for this cache. TFTC

Staying in Greymouth for one night on business so managed a quick walk this evening to visit a few cache sites. Thanks for showing me such a nice area.

A quick find. TFTC

A quick stop on my way to the coast. TFTC

A nice peaceful stop on my way to Greymouth. TFTC.

I remember running in this area about a year ago and thinking that there is surely a cache or two about. I didn't have my GPSr at that time, but came to Greymouth prepared for Geocaching this time. Took TB for my journey back to Nelson. TFTC

A nice spot for a cache. Thanks for bringing me here. TFTC

Had a good look at the headstones while waiting for muggles outside a nearby house to move on. No problem with the find. TFTC

I wonder who will win in the end: Man or Nature? This is quite a construction, but Mother Earth can unleash with full fury at times! An interesting spot. TFTC

28-Mar-10
Found on the way to Jenkins Hill on the MTB. A great piece of forrest for MTBing. Will definately be riding this track again. TFTC

A great day for a Sunday morning Mountain Bike ride. I have ridden in this area numerous times but always seem to head the other direction to the hills behind Richmond. I will definately be heading toward Jenkins more often as this is a lovely piece of bush. Thanks for taking me here and TFTC.

07-Feb-10
Found with Navfam and GazSuz while out for a MTB ride. A real team effort as Navfam had the GPS, Gaz expertly paced out 14 steps to hone in on GZ, Suz helped Gaz to count to 14 and I ....well....hmmm...what did I do?! I enjoyed the beautiful environment we were in. TFTC

01-Feb-10
The hardest part about finding this cache was that I had to peel my tired body off the warm stones of the shore of the lake after a long walk to 'Parachute'! You may have heard to groan as I transitioned from supine to standing. TFTC

Last time I did this walk I was a teenager. For some reason, this time it seemed a lot steeper and longer than I remember! The climb was well worth it though as it was a fabulous day. TFTC

24-Jan-10
Came down a wet and slippery Rimu trail on the MTB this morning which is always a recipe for fun (or disaster...it's a fine line between the two sometimes!!). I had no intention of Geocaching but said to my Bro (Mr Navfam) "Isn't there a cache somewhere around here". Turns out he had found this cache a few weeks back but I had a fair idea where this spot was anyway so I led the way to GZ and located the cache without problem. I ride the trails in this area frequently, but don't often stop to really admire the surroundings. So thanks for making me stop at this magic spot.

22-Jan-10
Went straight to the likely spot but couldn't find. Starting to worry, I widened my search a little - again without success. So, went back to likely spot and found straight away (despite searching that very area only a few minutes earlier - you know how it goes). TFTC

What a beautiful view today. The storm clouds were brewing and the rain starting to roll in. I'm serious - it was a great view. It produced a very moody sort of atmosphere. What a great spot for a rest though. And there were plenty resting. TFTC

A quick find...thankfully. It was pouring down with rain! TFTC

21-Jan-10
Found after looking around a few other likely spots. Nice and quiet around GZ so conducive to a wee search! TFTC

20-Jan-10
I have had this one loaded in the GPSr for ages and I must bike past here nearly every week. Had a few minutes spare today between jobs so snuck down the track for a quick find. TFTC

Was in the area for work and knew I had this one loaded in the GPSr. The coast was clear for a quick find. Thanks Beanso and family.

GPS was swinging around a bit but eventually I found the best approach which led to a quick find. Managed to just dodge the downpour this arvo. TFTC

19-Jan-10
A quick dash into the reserve while in the area for work. No problem with the find. I will definitely be back for a stroll around the reserve when I have more time. TFTC

12-Jan-10
It's hard to sleep in when you are camping and the birds are singing at 5.30am!! On the plus side - it is a great time for an early morning run and cache hunt. Found without problem but unable to sign log book as it was sodden and nib of pen rusted. TFTC

Found while out for an early morning run. It is certainly the best time to be out and about before the crowds hit the beach. It's much nicer running this track and others nearby rather than the roads. TFTC.

10-Jan-10
Found with friends 'Toropuke' on a stroll back to our camp site. Negotiated a suitable route, located cache, signed logbook, replaced cache and continued on and still nearly beat Mrs Toropuke and Lady Burlis who took the 'less adventurous' route back to camp. TFTC.

07-Jan-10
This is not a place that I would ordinarily come walking but it was a lovely walk through here today. The tide was in and the Pohutukawa trees were in flower. Very pretty. TFTC.

Nice hide Junior Belt. I have never been here before so thanks for showing me this area. That's what caching is all about. TFTC
