Logs for Graeme.N

10-Mar-24
Coordinates changed from:S 40 28.383 E 175 49.273Coordinates changed to:S 40 28.391 E 175 49.253Distance from original: 106.5 feet or 32.5 meters.Moved cache to a more accessible and cleaner (hopefully) location.

Extracted cache from where it was, cleaned it up, replaced the log book, replenished the trinkets, and hid it in a new, cleaner (hopefully), and easier to access location.

01-Jan-24
Coordinates changed from:S 40 52.637 E 176 4.340Coordinates changed to:S 40 52.638 E 176 4.336Distance from original: 19.4 feet or 5.9 meters.Whether it be due to magnetic drift, continental drift, or equipment inaccuracy ... these co-ordinates needed updating.

Owner maintenance visit:Had to search a little to find it as it wasn't where I left it - not surprising given the flooding there's been since I was last here, plus it appears continental and/or magnetic drift have caused the co-ordinates to have changed by about 8m.Also cleaned up the cache container and contents, and replaced the log book. I also replaced the container lid as the old one was a little loose and I had a spare lid with me that fitted more snuggly. Thanks to those who have helped maintain this cache since my previous visit - much appreciated.

02-Nov-23
Looks like this one needs some owner investigating, etc.Planning to be back in Gissy this summer (dates TBD) .. should manage to sort this out then.

27-Nov-22
Cache replaced and relocated.

In replacing this cache, I discovered I've got a lot of tradables, a.k.a cache swag, that have been sitting around for years, so feel free to take a tradable for yourself if you visit this cache before the end of January 2023. Let me know if the quantity of tradables is getting low when you visit.

Replacing the cache in a more accessible location.

Cache seems to have gone AWOL. I'm convinced it's not where it's supposed to be, and I've yet to find it anywhere else.

I have messaged the 2 most recent finders - I've yet to hear from pix0wastaken, but Kahutiaterangi has replied and gave me a clue as to its location, but that didn't work out when I went back for another attempt. I've contacted Kahutiaterangi again for further help.

I've also been in contact with NZ_B (as a result of re-enabling GC243Y1) and so I may seek further help from them if things don't work out with pix0wastaken and Kahutiaterangi.

Messages and recent logs definitely point towards locations where it shouldn't be - this is a terrain 4 cache, not terrain 2 - 3.

26-Nov-22
Hid replacement cache in what will be a more accessible location than what the original has become.
I'll update the cache description and location, and then I'll re-enable it.

It's now a 70 litre rubbish bin with a 10 litre paint pail inside, and a 2 litre Sistema container inside that.

05-Nov-22
I haven't forgotten about this ... just need to acquire and assemble the necessary items to replace this large cache. Just been cleaning up an empty 10 litre paint pail, now to go scope out candidates for the outer cache container, e.g. rubbish bins - hioping to get one with a better lid than the previous one.

24-Oct-22
Even after 1.5 hours of searching while equipped with gumboots, gardening gloves, and a big battery-powered hedge trimmer (for dealing primarily with blackberry and dead vines), I still didn't find it. Zeroed the GPS reading (well, 0.08m is near enough to zero), but as usual the GPS reading jumped around so that standing in the same spot could give a reading of 0-4m with an accuracy of +/- 3-6m. Sigh.

Without clearing about a 1/4 acre of blackberry, vines, creepers, etc. I can't be sure that the cache is gone, but I'm going to proceed as if it is and prepare to place a replacement cache at a more accessible location about 10-20m from the original. Hopefully I'll have this done in the next couple of weeks.

I also intend to try to contact the last few to find it (back in 2019) to see if they can give me any pointers as to where the current cache might be now.

Please stand-by - I aim to have this cache "operational" again soon.

22-Oct-22
Oh. My. Goodness!!!
I sure understand now why so many people have DNFed this cache ... while the terrain is much the same as it was when I placed this cache, the plants have vastly changed! The grove(?) of trees are mostly gone (mostly horizontal rather than vertical, and largely hidden by other plants growing over them), lots more of the "ground creeper" covering much of the area, and lots of "inconvenient" blackberry.

I tried approaching the cache location from at least 4 directions, but the closest I got to it (according to the c:Geo app) was 5m (plus 6/7/12m from other directions). I'm reasonably sure that the cache is still there, just very hard to get to.

I intend to try again soon .. with the help of .. POWER TOOLS!!! (well, a battery-powered hedge trimmer )

17-Oct-22
Sorry for the delay in tending to this - it's on my "to do" list, but I have yet to make it to that item, but now that the weather is improving, I should be able to get to it in the next couple of weeks.

09-Feb-21
Well, the new container seems to be working OK, so I have now "refreshed" the contents of this cache. New log book, cache note, pen (hope it works OK - might have to find a more reliable pen .. so long since I've dug into my geocache maintenance supplies that at least 3 of the "new" pens in there had stopped working), and a few swag items.

I might tweak things a bit over the next few weeks.

Feel free to swap the big Disney/McDonald's eagle man toy for a few smaller items (if it's still there when you visit).

07-Feb-21
I had meant to bring my full geocache maintenance kit/supplies with me, but I couldn't find them this morning. I sure wish I'd had them with me 'cause ... Wow! I needed them!

The takeaway container that someone had "kindly" replaced my good quality Sistema container with sure hadn't been up to the job: it was full of dark brown water that I think had stuff growing in, and everything in the container was soaked .. some so badly that they had disintegrated. Some were still disintegrating and fell apart as I handled them (while wearing latex gloves).

Even the log in a snap-lock bag was soaked and fell apart as I tried to open it up.

So ...

For now I have replaced the cache container (with a good quality Sistema container) and have put a couple of geocaching "business cards" in it - 1 as the cache label and 1 as a temporary log sheet. I intend to return within a week and properly restock it.

Currently this cache is BYOP (Bring Your Own Pen(cil)).

25-Jan-21
Stopped to check on this cache when on the way home from holiday, expecting it to be gone .. but no, it's still there, just slightly buried.

I didn't have the necessaries to deal with it properly, so I left it where it was with the intention of returning (possibly more than once) over the next few weeks to properly assess it, and do any necessary cleaning up and other maintenance.

If you are going for this one before I get back to it, make sure you have something to clean your hands with as it's a bit mucky in there.

15-Sep-19
Sadly, I'm archiving this cache. While I occasionally get out here (usually 2 or 3 times a year), I usually either forget to check on this cache or am too busy with other things to do so.

Additionally, this location has been problematic in a variety of ways. Time to call it a day for this cache.

20-Feb-19
Scoped it out yesterday evening, but didn't have a writing stick with me.
Came back today with writing implement in hand to make the capture.

Quick and easy find.

01-Sep-18
Replaced broken container (left old grey lid as it provides a bit of camo).

Read the log book - nice to see so many visitors and that some have even written notes.

(Also replaced the pen as the old one was no longer working.)

10-May-18
Based on the recent log of a bunch of intrepid cachers, I'm re-enabling this cache.

Thank you Infoferret, huhugrub (and Mrs Huhugrub), Ethnz, barefootguru, GSEL, and MrMcgoo.

05-Apr-18
Not sure when/if I'm going to get around to actually doing something about this, so going to archive it.

Maybe sometime I'll do a "Spice Girls, 3rd gig" ... time will tell.

06-Feb-17
I had intended to check on this cache today, but forgot to.
Disabling cache until I can check on it - hopefully soon.

31-Jan-17
I suspect this one is gone-burgers Sad ...

Took a look for it (going from memory of where it was) and it wasn't where I though it should be - must go back using GPS ... co-ords should put you on the river bank by a tree, but different GPSr's will put you in slightly different places.

Due to the work that went into creating this puzzle cache, I am reticent to archive it, but I may yet have to. If someone else wants to put a cache in this vacinity prior to me sorting this out (or archiving it), let me know. I suspect that I may need to archive this one and create "Spice Girls, 3rd gig" with different difficulty/terrain ratings anyway.

28-Aug-16
Went to confirm this one was living up to its history of being a cache that should be easy to find, but often is elusive ... but it does seem to be gone.

Disabling it while I decide how I want to proceed with this one.

02-Jun-16
Maintenance was performed by a member of the caching community a while ago - thanks steedandpeel! Smile

02-Jan-16
Apparently the nest is now empty, so it should be OK to access this cache again.

29-Nov-15
Temporarily disabled to protect the eggs (and subsequent young) of a bird that has nested with the cache.

Temporarily disabled cache.

27-Apr-15
Would love to attend, but I'll be heading to Castlepoint instead. Have fun!

25-Apr-15
Checking on the cache while in Tinui for the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings. Cache and contents are looking OK.

14-Feb-15
Either I'm missing something or the cache is missing. Checked 4 locations matching the hint, but no cache found. Ah well, some other time.

Quick and easy find (no hint needed - or used!).

Quick and easy find - saw it on my 2nd surreptitious look.
Just had to wait for a suitable break in the traffic to put it back.

Found the lid not properly closed, so there is a bit of muck and moisture in the cache. Didn't have anything with me to clean and dry it, sorry.

About time I found this one ... especially as it's only 100 - 200 metres from my office!

17-May-14
I came, I saw, I had a good laugh! (just a pity I arrived near the end)

01-May-14
I've been trying to get to one of your events for a few years, but it just hasn't been happening. I shall be trying very hard to get to this one!

08-Apr-14
I hope to be there (possibly with geo-helpers), but not sure as we usually attend the service in Tinui (the birth place of ANZAC Day services) and usually walk up the hill to the big ANZAC cross afterwards.

26-Mar-14
Searched and searched, but couldn't find it. GPSr not zeroing didn't help.

20-Mar-14
Just noting my intention to achieve this challenge.

09-Mar-14
Looks like it's gone missing again - disabling this while I rethink it and try to come up with a different hiding place.

08-Mar-14
Went to check on this one today ... it appears that there has been some slippage of the bank here. As a result, the spot that the cache had been nestled in was gone ... and the cache was about 10 feet down the slope from where it had been, with the basic camo doing a very good job - I almost didn't see it.

Moved the cache back up to about where it had been - should be more visible and accessible now.

07-Mar-14
Tried doing this with my Alcatel M'POP phone, but found it to be a bit hopeless - the GPSr wasn't updating to c:geo in a usable fashion. Switched to my Asus TF300T tablet, and ... SCHWEET!!! Had the cache in my hands in a few minutes.

25-Feb-14
Would love to attend (no, not on account of the pies ... honest! - they be just a bonus!), but I'm aiming to be up at Lake Karapiro by the time this event kicks off.

Maybe some other time. Smile

26-Jan-14
Revised additional clue to bring it into line with current reality. Sorry - looks like cache had been moved a bit and I hadn't realised the additional clue was out of date. (Unfortunately, some cachers aren't diligent in returning caches to the location they retrieved them from.)

12-Jan-14
Enjoyed meeting the Finns and a bunch of locals, some I knew and some who were new.
Also enjoyed the Finnish sweets - thanks.

19-Dec-13
I'm planning on being there.

Carrington Park should be a nice place to be on a summer's evening ... great playground for the children, plenty of space for activities/games/sports/etc.

Looking forward to seeing all who attend.

26-Sep-13
Took a bit of digging around, but managed to find it after a few minutes.
