Logs for HTXman

21-Sep-06
Found along with TheaGivskov. Searched for a short while, but then found it fairly quick, remembering the text about the cache being magnetic. Smelly but interesting area. Nice with the story related to the cache! TFTC, NT.

Found after a lot of searching, because we only tool the coords, not the hint. Found it just as we had actually given up... as usual Smile Coords were a bit off, but perhaps it was just me... Nice area though!

05-Sep-06
Tried to find this cache along with TheaGivskov, but gave up due to not enough time, though we were never closer than 500m to the cache.
We were on a trip with the "Magic" bus, took a day tour of kayaking to see this beautiful area. It was raining and windy so it was quite a challenge to manouvre the kayak, but still a great experience. Our kayak guide dropped us off in a small bay, not far from the cache. The kayaks were picked up by a water taxi and we had to walk back along the path through the forest.
A very beautiful area!!! Next time (if ever) we visit NZ, we will definitely spend more time in this NP.

Our first cache on NZ... nice view... beautiful walk along the coastline. TNLFSL, greetings from Denmark Smile

10-Aug-06
Found along with TheaGivskov on our way down South, having visited Magnetic Island the day before. Nice view to the island here from the top. Crazy road up here though!

01-Aug-06
Found along with TheaGivskov, after two days of enjoying the area around Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Took some photos with me in front of the rock, holding the cache, wearing my "Hunt for the Australian Beer-Kangaoo" jacket... A joke my friends threw at me shortly before I went to Australia. NT

23-Jul-06
We got up VERY early in the morning, long before the sun rised, drove from our sleep-over-night-spot elsewhere in the Grampians, a very quiet place off the road. We reached the parking area approx. 30 mins before the sun rised, walked up the rest of the road, quickly so we could see the sunrise from the top. We made it to the top just in time, but it was overcast so the experience was a bit tame Sad.
We ate our breakfast at the top and walked back down to continue our travel, but this cache being so close to the parking area, we just had to find it... and we did fairly quick.
Put several small items in the cache, unfortunately cannot remember exactly which.
Left a TB: Skydiving Doug, thought he could get some nice "sky-rides" here from the top.

04-Jul-06
Normally we like multies, since they sometimes tell a good story, but this time we didn't feel we had the time for it, so we tried to find it using the hint and our geo-nose, but without luck Sad Nice work with the trip around the park, though. HTXman + TheaGivskov

Tried this one on the way back from VicMarket, but we had terrible signals, so the accuracy was very bad. Went forth and back many times, didn't have too much time, so we gave up. Many trees, but it shouldn't be that bad normally, even though there are tall buildings around?!? And what is the story about the spreadsheet... I don't get it... I don't see any Excel-like formations around?

03-Jul-06
Found this little one in the 2nd try. First time it was dark, I had no light, and it was pouring from the sky, so after searching for a while, I gave up. The second time I was with my girlfriend, and after I told her the area the GPS said last time, she found it by the speed of light. Damn, I swear I had checked that place last time... but aparently not Sad TNLNSL, Thanks! HTXman + TheaGivskov

@1.20pm found by Lisa and HTXman. Lisa's very first cache, but she had heard a lot about it before and she fell right into the detective role of not being seen and drawing unnecessary attention Smile

@5.15pm found by HTXman and Emilie. Took a while to locate the aparatus in the CBD, because of poor satellite reception, but when at the sculpture, it didn't take long to locate the cache. Emilie was excited to find her first cache Smile but truely this container cannot hold many swaps!
Who needs a Lonely Planet when we have geocaching Wink

@9.45pm found by Kiru and HTXman. It was pouring down from the sky... Kiru's first cache... a bit excited about the whole idea. Thanks!

Found at 12.45. Nice hide, good trip. Thanks. Full log on return. [logged by cellphone at 12.55]

My first FTF Big Grin and find #40 (which I regretfully missed previous Monday at "Trainspotting"). Does it always have to rain the day after a new cache is released in Melbourne? Twisted
Very nice camo for this cache, impressive, good job!
But at WP4, I couldn't find any Celestial Place, only a Celestial Av. Am I wrong?

After missing it the first time, having it on my watchlist and reading all the posts, I really wanted to find this one! But after having been there once, and with all the logs and hints this one eventually has, it wasn't too difficult... only a bit because some guys were lifting weights up on the balcony across. Surprised I didn't see it the first time... Finally I am able to say: Thanks Orroral

14-May-06
First on the spot, I think, arrived around 8.30am. Met 3 other cachers here, during my 1h search, but none of us managed to find it... (Posted by cellphone at GZ)

Saw the publish last night and thought it would be a nice present for my 25-years birthday Smile to find my 40th cache and get my first FFC (we call it FirstFinderCertificate in Denmark, but I guess you guys call it FirstToFind here... don't you guys put a "certificate" in there?) But no present for me, except a bike ride in the rain, out from Maribyrnong Sad

Anyways, I suggest Orroral has a look at the spot...

07-May-06
Went in front of the pub, took a rough bearing from my GPS-compass and bike'd the 190m. Found two objects that fit the description perfectly, but after searching the legs thoroughly, I concluded that the cache must have been muggled Surprised -> Partic, please check!

Nice n easy find, in a nice park, on the way home from luncheon in the "Danish Club" on Beaconsfield Pde.

Sweet... this cache was just outside the function I just went to: Luncheon in the Danish Club, 177 Beaconsfield Pde, where the "Danish Baker from Frankston" comes every 1st Sunday of the month, with a selection of his varieties of Danish pastries, herings, candy etc. This was just what I needed, after having been without salty liquorice and "real" rye bread for 2,5 months Big Grin

The coordinates put me to the close-by light pole in the middle-strip, but I couldn't see any arts from there...?

Around 4pm, found it after admiring the view of the high rock on the other side of the river. Must have taken some nerve to do that jump! (Make sure there is enough water in the river! BTW, what is the depth?) TNLN, Thanks!

Around 3pm, found it after searching for a bit around in "the room". But my GPS told me it was outside... perhaps signal reflection from the building? TNLN

03-May-06
Around 5pm, found it after trying all the coordinate possibilities, with the 3 different possibilities from the rock pile. Didn't know exactly the English name for the animal I was thinking about (only knowing it in Danish), so that didn't make it easier either... After coming back, I refered my dictionary and shouldn't the "flathead" probably be a "flatfish" instead?
With a little elimination on the animals and the calculated positions, I found the correct bridge. At this bridge, the cache was in a different place than I first assumed.
Nice view over the river from here. Come here often, since I'm going to Footscray Park Campus @ VicUni, while I'm on exchange here in Aus.
TNLN, Thanks!

@17.40 It almost started dripping and it was about to get dark, so fortunately there weren't any muglers around. Counted the wooden rails and found the cache easily, but found it a strange calculation. At least the description of it... Nice park, but there were a lot of noisy birds Smile
TFTC, HTXman + Peter

@16.40 This was my first in the CCT-series, so I thought you were supposed to find the hints for the CCT-0 on various places along the track on the separate ones. I was also a bit led to believe this, because there were some pipes going under the road (not under the path, though) just when CCT-7 begins. However, the pipes didn't really fit the description of the clue in the CCT-0. Also surprised not to find the rest of the clues along CCT-7... but now I know why Smile
I was getting rather dirty, searching for the cache where the GPS first told us to go. But after finding nothing, the GPS had also changed its mind, and an earlier log was a good hint.
Peter signed the log book, but before we put back the cache, I had a "feeling" that I'd better check the book for some clues... glad I did Smile Looking forward to find the rest of the series!

@13.30 Found it fairly easy. 2-star difficulty? I'd say only because of the many possible mugglers... Can you place bets in the cache? Wink Would be good to see a race here one day.

@16.50 3rd cache today. Read the hint and found it straight away. Amazing with all these toys in the box. Especially one thing caught my attention and even though I didn't have a real toy to swap with, I thought I'd take the thing bacause I knew I had a friend back home who would love it. Hope it's ok. I'll see if I can drop by with a real toy some other time.
Nice park, but I didn't have time to read all the signs for the plants. Would have been interesting though.

Thanks Gabrielle

Update: Argh, had a flat tire on the way back to the Student Village on my bicycle, so I had to walk the last 4-5km with it Sad

@15.45 Came near to the spot from the river track, so it was a bit of climbing. I wouldn't like to find this cache on a rainy day! After searching 10 mins, I found it at an "easy" place. My GPS said 7m off, but it may have been a bad satellite constellation? The cache was a bit (very) exposed, so I tried to cover it up a bit.
Very nice view over the bridge! But I guess I'm too young for Meccano, because I played with Lego Technics when I was a child (can still do it though Smile). Also, Lego is Danish so it comes natural to us Smile.
The bridge mostly reminds me of the computer game called Pontifex (Google can help you), where you must build realistic bridges, so you need to use your hidden engineer skills.

[@16.15 2nd cache today. Found it after 5 mins.

] My GPS pointed me to the other side of the fence, even though normal geo-sense tells me it shouldn't be on inappropriate ground. After searching a bit on the other side of the fence, I went back and found the cache in a most classic GC-spot Smile [

Park is nice, but a bit more dry than a Danish park Smile

@16.40
Found it fairly easy. Actually my GC-newbie friend found it. Her first cache ever, very exited Smile
I always enjoy seing people opening a cache for the first time.

When living in the Student Village, this is the closest cache... even though I waited all since 16/2 to find it. The park is a bit strange, but I guess it makes more sense if you read all the signs.

@13.20
Today's 1st cache, we were 10 people here (9 GC newbies). I found it fairly easily (by reading first 5 words from hint), but draw back and led the others closer to the cache location by saying warm/cold Smile
The newbies admired the ammobox and discussed how to get such one, what ammo was originally in it and whether it was from USA or UN.
Very beautiful day, enjoyed the view. Yesterday we were at Mt Bishop, but liked the view here better.

@16.30
3rd cache this weekend, we were 8 people here (7 GC newbies). We chose this cache in favor of "It's Over on" on Mt Oberon, because this one had a difficulty rating of 5/4. We had a picnic at Squeaky Beach and headed towards the cache.
Even though it said 1,4km to the cache from Squeaky Beach, we started out climbing the rocks, like real adventurers Smile We went pretty far and crossed some dangerous paths. We wondered a bit, but the terrain rating was 4, so perhaps it was meant to be this way? Having spent at least 40min and still having 1km to go, we tried to head up for the top of the hill, leaving the dangerous rocks. Up here, we found the Picnic Bay track and realised we had made an initial mistake... but it was challenging and a good story, now!
Approaching the cache location, we (again) followed the shoreline and started searching the area.
Having thoroughly searched all the small and large caves nearby, we had almost given up, after 30-40min, when Rob tried the GPS again and said the cache should be there, a bit from where we were looking. Giving it a chance, I went to him and started searching. Looking in the right area, I found it quickly... so today's lesson is: Trust the GPS! Don't let your imagination take you too far away from GZ.
We think the difficulty rating of 5 might be a bit overkill... but it was good fun!

1st cache this weekend, we were 10 people here (9 GC newbies).
Just spent some time at the amazing Squeaky Beach, saw the tide coming fairly quick. Unfortunately it had gotten dark when we reached the cache location and we only had one flashlight. But with many enthusiastic souls, one found it with the display light from a mobile phone. Thanks George!
The newbies were very interested to see what was inside when the cache was opened.
The view was not so good at night, but we saw some people walking around with flashlights by the Tidal River shoreline.

@2.40pm
We were also here at 1.15am trying to find it, but we didn't succeed. Night-caching is difficult when you haven't got good torches... and it doesn't make it any easier if you've already had 1/3 slab of beer Smile
Came back in the daylight and it was a bit easier. We also discovered that we were looking on the wrong side of the path when we were there at night. Strange, because we checked the GPS several times...
Even at daylight we had problems finding it, looked for at least 15 min... on the correct side of the path however Wink
While we were searching, another geocacher showed up... but we found it first Cool

@4pm - 2nd cache since I arrived in Australia from Denmark Smile

Went here from Hampstead Rd on my brand new bike... taking a nice ride in the sunshine, paying a visit to Sunshine Wink
I like the story, however a bit trivial to enter the intermediate WPs to find a plaque that is just 20m away.
Trying to find the cache, I looked quickly at the correct cache location, but didn't seem to find anything. But after looking a bit in the area and decrypting the hint, I took a 2nd look at the 1st place and there it was... sweet.
Nice cache, valuable content (I guess because it's pretty new -> replaced).

Wow, my first cache since I arrived in Australia... it's a bit hard to find caches without access to the Internet, and I wasn't so smart to print out some caches from back home Smile
