Logs for Honupohaku

16-Feb-13
Was out with Fuzzyku to meet some friends for dinner. Thought we would make a dash around the corner as we arrived early for our meeting. Good thing it was not too far because the cold was almost too much for Fuzzyku but since she has special connection to this place then I was able to talk her into going.

Took a break to watch the construction after I got lost. How can one get lost wandering around six city blocks? hmmm.

didnt use a GPSr but google earth and the hint. left on coin.

I am not sure if I agree with the hint but then again I may be short compared with some.

Really glad that this cahce was there becuase I am not sure I would have come by this park today. Too rainy and cold for me but a brief respite in the middle of the day.

Amazing history and a good place to watch folks pass by.

messy, messy, messy! Rainy day might not be the best one to find this. But does Auckland have anything else?

Thanks lil Red for introducing me to the wolfe.

Awesome! My first find was a FTF in Tonga. How cool is that.

Ok my partner in crime for the day, EK was actually the one who made the find. We wondered why, of all the place to choose this one but the sun was going down and our time was running out so didnt have a chance to explore more.

Have to say that I love this country and the people are great. Really glad I had the opportunity to stop by.

Was going to drop a TB but the cache containers opening was too small, just a fraction. So they just visited instead.

OK! My First find in NZ! Didnt even need a GPSr....just walked out of the bar and wondered if there was any caches in the area. As I was thinking about it I looked off to my right and could see on hugging tight.
Wanted to drop some coins but too small so only visited instead.

Found em!

Wow, Whomever was the last person to play with the cache sure put it back well. It was very difficult to get to it. I have to admit that I would have just left it but some of the rest of the crew were more dogged at it than me. While they worked the physical puzzle I just stood around and looked impressed from when it was final breached.

Might need a bit of maintenance.

Was surprised to find the beach park closed an a few signs saying private property which didnt seem right. Only two guys sitting in the back of a truck which seemed to be guarding the sailboat in the bay.

Was a beautiful day and no one really around....loved it.

Great morning, clear and bright. No one around or within sight.

My gosh, this time no gnosh, but did take time to wash. No real hurry, and it wasnt buried so could find the cache without a worry.

Nice to learn things about the place you live! Easy cache that I spotted from about 30 ft away. thanks for the smiley.

23-May-09
found em and fuzzyku got to play on the swings all at the same time!

think this is the third one in this spot, hope it last a bit longer than the others.

Fuzzyku made the find while I was still trying to work out the coords. Just goes to show that some smarts will go a long way over sheer determination.

So since we were in the area we decided to head on over and make a grab for this despite the possibility of rain. Half way from the parking lot we could see some other cachers looking around, and around and around.

As we did not recognize them we decided to not disturb them and play with Bubbles instead. Tink finally made the find and moved on so fuzzyku and I went for the grab. Timing worked out just fine as soon as we put the log back the skies opened up and it started to pour.

Was actually one of the folks to sign the cache page during the beach bash but didnt realize it had been made into an actual cache later on. It was pouring down but rain drops dont bother queens and only slightly bother turtles (it is why we cross the road of course) so while B and V stayed in the car Q and I did a quick dash to the cache to re-sign the log.

Found em! Hurt my finger ouch!

Luv em so much....Barry didnt steal my fries from here though.

It has been more than a month that I have done a cache and was glad to get out and look. fuzzyku was more interested in da goodies and QB had been there afore so it was up to the remaining two.

easy find and could use a bit of maintenance on the container, which is how I spotted it.

Decided to take the walk up the road since it was a nice day. Used to know a gal who lived here.....I wonder. Kablooey and I clued in at almost the same time but he was faster.

First time I was here in the daytime. Looks just a bit more seedy now than at night.

Not the kinda place I enjoy looking for caching so was glad to have Fuzzyku, QB and Kablooey there to motivate me. Saw it, didnt see it and then did again so it left me confused until Kablooey confirmed that the didnt see it was more correct than the second seen.

Had a good day wandering the city. Meet some great folks and had good food to square away conversation.

So like an old married couple, da queen and I disagreed with which way to go, but it didnt really matter because in the end we go there. Nice job on the cache. Had planned on getting it on the Aloha run, but didnt know where to put my GPSr for the first 8 miles.

I got quoted from about GPS in a article back in '98, unfortunately the fellow got much of the information wrong, but it one of the few things that comes up if I am googled. But then I probably should have had fewer beers before the interview.

How nice to come across this puzzle. I did the squinting but my partner in crime, Fuzzyku new all of the answers, not me. She really, really, really enjoyed this one. And one of the few when we get to come back no all covered with muds!

She be da brains...or is if we got it correct. We both learned a bunch! All kinds of good stuff and makes me want to visit one day.

With 4.5 stars, I expected to have to be in the zoo for hours. Got there is the later afternoon hoping the animals would be more active, but no. Discovered the reptile house was closed at four. Disappointed by that but located the cache in about five minutes. Am curious about the coordinates though.

I wasnt able to get the exact coordinates to the lighthouse since it is off limits to the public. Tried to take several routes but all of them were closed or damaged due to the heavy rains last night...we even had thunder. Constructed by the Honolulu District in 1909, the lighthouse included a lens which was the largest type built at that time. If you want to know more about the lighthouse check out http://www.hawaiiweb.com/oahu/sites_to_see/makapuu_lighthouse.htm or http://www.backyardoahu.com/index.html?mlhr1.htm They give good info on the lighthouse as well as the route to it. My girlfriend spent the time watching wales at play while I was gathering coords.
